20 April 2020
It looks like the company isn't ready to give up on the concept.

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2020(nice kurumi wallpaper btw) thats you and your phone... moreThanks.

And well, this is not just a launcher issue, multitasking on Android is quite bad and Android initially was never designed for that.

Anyway, all that because I said that LG could focus on doing more than just this style of dual display phones as it is a waste they don't also make dual display Nubia Z20 style but only focus on a single type.

thats you and your phone's/launcher's problem

i use samsung and their stock launcher, the multi tasking has no major issues and almost all apps support it

only a few third party apps dont support it (instagram) but instead of cancelling the multi screen view it forces instagram to split, albeit at the expense of optimization (viewing instagram in split screen is....eeeehhhh)

also i dont know what the problem with your phone is?? all stock apps work with multi screen view, and thats how it should be in the first place ...

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2020LG doesn't careI never understood the need for all these updates. most of them are pretty useless.
the "security" updates are pretty useless as well. just minor bugs.

people pretend like OS updates will make a phone so much better lol. its actually hilarious

if it was something major , like the bug we had a few years ago, almost every carrier comes up with a patch in a very respectable timeframe.

LG is one the WORST major phone maker with Global updates, still waiting for Android10 on my new LG V50 in Aust.
Prior to that I had an LG V20 a global Version, same thing.....Koreans got the update to Android 10 last year but global versions only had Android 9 and stop at that. All I got was just 1 major major update since purchase to Android 8 and NO security updates since May 2019, absolutely disgraceful!
In comparison, Samsung gives timely updates and 2 Major Software guaranteed updates. IMHO If you value security updates I will give all LG a big miss, they have poorest track record for a major phone maker!
Thought they have improved since my LG v20, but was dead wrong buying my recent LG v50 because of price and hardware; personally my family and I are NEVER buying another LG again, they just want to sell new handset, little wonder their sales are tanking globally.
IMHO, do yourself a favour and learn from my mistakes, avoid LG's until they get their Act together with their pathetic software updates.

jakov1, 22 Apr 2020The issue in your example is caused by resizing. There's no... moreStill, the base system need rework, there are far more phone than LG ones which use dual display, regardless the implementation of it, this is totally stupid to build a new system over a flowed one rather than simply fixing the old one and making it work with all systems.
LG's version should use the stock Android system for dual display because the stock Android should be improved to work with dual, folding, expanding and other form of displays.
This here won't benefit anyone else than LG, and the day they will another form of dual display, they'll also face the flawed based Android one.

And it doesn't change my initial argument :
More type of dual display should be done.

jakov1, 20 Apr 2020You can literally have two apps open side by side and switc... moreAlso, a really important thing, behavior gathering is almost a thing of the past...
You have to realize that there were not a point in history where they though "lets steal user data", it was an evolutionary process where more data were acquired, at first for giving more possibility and services, then for targeting ads.

But then, everyone quickly realized that data sell well, and since this isn't an official market but rather a borderline legal activity (that often goes completely in illegal territory), they don't really check or even care why the data are bought for.
Things such as blackmailing someone is an exemple of how data collection is profitable, some hackers/scammer would actually buy some private informations and try to force you into paying (often in Bitcoin) a large amount of money if you don't want your informations to be released.

I have one weak password on purpose that I use on every unsafe websites, so it wouldn't compromise what was my unique password (now I use password managers), and I received quite a few mails from an "hacker" saying he got my password and ask me to pay large amount of money if I didn't wanted consequences or other, the truth is, they didn't hacked my password, they only bought many email/password association from the deep web and simply make a really really simply code to send to each those email an automated message containing the password, the Bitcoin key they give and the amount they ask is the same in each their mail, meaning they can't know who paid or not, meaning it isn't at all a real threat.

But now what if one decided to do the same with a real video of you in an highly compromising/embarrassing situation and asked you for money in exchange to not publishing it ?
There have been instances of peoples who got private data such as credit card informations stolen because of selfie camera, this is also a real threat.
Identity thief is also a major threat, not major because it often happen using selfie camera, but because when it happen, it can ruin your life, if they have a video of you, they can do so much things with it.

There is a huge difference between pictures you knowingly post online and those acquired behind your back.
Government and big company aren't the only threat to your privacy.
This is one of the real threat of having your face exposed, security expert always advised to tape your laptop's webcam, there is a reason for that.
This is because of pop up camera that we are aware that far more intrusion of privacy took place than we thought, many websites and apps caused the pop up camera to lift, proving they took sneak picture of the user, this isn't to say this stopped now, the most probable thing is probably just simply a list of device with such camera in an exclusion list.
And NO this isn't "because the code load the camera code" or any false excuses like that, the camera app which is all about camera, don't cause the pop up to lift except when the front camera is directly and actively used.

But what about Clearview AI who was actually only after your image ?
Now think what would happen if for any reasons you do something that doesn't please any governmental agency, well, you give off many informations, a lot of useful data for face tracking you, but also your location and potentially many more things.
And if you think this have no risk to happen, well, sorry to break that to you, but any government can, in any time, turn into dictatorship or military state...
Julian Assange would tell you how much you shouldn't thrust camera that have an internet connexion, he was betrayed by a security company which exactly show how they can be used against you.
You aren't Julian Assange and you don't have anything secretive enough for getting government attention ?

Well, what if, as I said, your government, regardless your country, because of major economical crisis, turned into a really distopic one or as I said into dictatorship or military state ?
Now more than ever with the COVID-19 destroying global economy and giving excuses to get more privacy intrusion with all the contamination tracker who got released, this is something that can happen literally anytime to any country, and the only hope to prevent it is if peoples were acting against that.
But with privacy intrusion, they can have many leverage against you to silence you down, I am not talking about assassination or capturing you, and such leverage against peoples have already been used, even Facebook did use it to shut concurrence by literally using data, acquired legally or not, to have a leverage against those peoples, and in this case this is just business...
But government is more than business.

More importantly, as I said, the current privacy threat situation we currently live in wasn't something planned out, one thing leading to another, this is simply how it evolved, and it always progress the same way, a new tiny bit of additional data is acquired, it seem innocent, then, after maybe a year or so, someone found a way to get profits from it, and because there is no legal control, things can quickly get out of hand and lead to severe privacy intrusion.
Camera are a really important aspect of that, your image is one of the most precious thing you have to yourself, and if it can generate profits, no one will bother selling something you would make nightmare about if it was publicly available.

If we want to stop privacy violation, we should certainly NOT consider ANY medium used to gather data as a meaningless one.

Because today we have still a really "nice" situation, but in a close future, everyone will really hate that.
Neural interface are not just a stuff of science fiction, we can already gather movement informations and input images to someone's brain, NeuraLink is doing this, there was multiple laboratory experiment that were able to make a crude image out of someone's thought, real virtual reality is coming sooner than you think, quite soon we will have gaming headset with neural interface, technically you can already buy some addon who do exactly that, there is just not enough content just yet.
And this is clearly the stuff of the futur, but with our curent way of letting untouched privacy breach or even indirectly defending it (like you did), I am sure you can easily imagine where it will lead to.

And I really want my mind, thought and memories to stay mine !
You might think that I am not forced to use this tech when it will be released, but that's false, how many official services already have apps, some now move to numerical only, and neural interface could be a thing many company choose to adopt for user authentification and other things like that...
There isn't really an alternative to iOS and Android, but this isn't to us to just "not use it if we don't want our data to be illegally connected (because there are far more data collected than those we agree on in the user agreement)", this is to all those practices to stop.

So please don't underestimate or turn down the threat of camera connected to internet.
This is far more serious than just a "maybe a hacker will see your face and laugh", this can be as serious as your own personal security and there are far more than a single source of privacy intrusion in most devices, this isn't just "Google" or "Facebook" or "The government" etc, this is all of those and many other company who want to make profits even if it can get you killed because it revealed a rare and expensive object in your house and someone want to steal it.

                    jakov1, 21 Apr 2020I don't even know what to say, you're criticizing dual-scre... moreI recorded this video : https://youtu.be/KgcT5m0n1fA
Basically to prove my point, you literally said :

"You can literally have two apps open side by side and switching between them works flawlessly (Juan Bagnall and TK Bay have gone through dual screen use in depth), there's no need for any software optimization or whatever. Modern phones are perfectly capable of running multiple apps at the same time, it's just that there's no physical space for it."

But I proved the system to be flowed with my video, it isn't a lack of physical space, the issues are :
*It is a core feature of Android, yet just installing Nova Launcher broke it...
Even not broken the following still apply :
*Multiple stock Android apps (file manager, phone (during a call), SMS/MMS, camera, etc) aren't even compatible with it...
*The app separator basically do as it want and doesn't stay where we put it...
*After carefully placing an app on a specific location (for re-writing something for example), switching to another app will almost always the vertical scrolling location of the first one, making it a true pain to align them as we need to guesstimate where it will move, opening the keyboard have the same effect.
*Some apps, when switching to the second one, can't even handle dual and go back to the main/authentification/previous page...

Fixing how two apps work on the same screen is a necessity before actually getting side by side dual display, ANY system that is build over a flowed one will endup having many underlying issues that just wait to appear.
Apps doesn't/shouldn't need to be made for this in order to work.
The same is also true for front/back dual display, the back display shouldn't be turned ON or registering tactile, only turning over the phone or using the "switch side" function should do that.
But focusing only on side by side foldable phone design mean efforts which could go to improving the base system only go to making the whole new process which go over the main one which have all those issues.
On a single display, on a secondary external display, on flexible foldable phone, on front/back dual display and finally on side by side dual display phones, the system should be the same.
Since unlike computer based OS where a windows can have any size and location on the display, on Android it is basically always "full size" regardless where the app is (on another display, on another part of the same display or any sort of mix of the two), this would be the best solution.
Imagine if 5G got implemented wrong, and rather than fixing it, we were developing another DATA protocol and totally ignoring 5G even if the vast majority of users would use it over the new system...This is the same here.

Again, I never said such device shouldn't exist, only this is a was to only make foldable side by side dual display while they could also make some the front/back kind rather than many of the same one.
Front/back dual display phone are a great alternative at front camera which are always a problem and basically everyone try to get rid of them...

I love the idea of dual screens side by side, but the way LG does it seems kind of unbalanced. The two screens should have identical dimensions, and be separated by a much narrower gap. Even ZTE did it much better a few years ago, with the Axon M phone. And there's the upcoming Surface Duo which seems like it will be great. I'm even thinking about buying it, but I'm worried that it will be horribly expensive. I wish LG actually created a decent alternative. LG is bragging about a new "design language" for the Velvet phone, so I'm really curious to see if it will be actually well designed.

Also, why is multi screening still dumbed down to multiple presses instead of the one time macro option provided by a third party, SCREENS, which was killed on Android Oreo?

[deleted post]I don't even know what to say, you're criticizing dual-screen and then you record yourself using two apps on a single screen. The whole point is that there's no resizing of the apps because, as you've shown, lots of them aren't made for that.

Multitasking goes on behind the sceenes, it's how the tasks are distributed to the processing units and RAM to keep them both running while keeping enough resources. It used to be a big deal, not so much these days.
