iPhone SE (2020) AnTuTu scores reveal underclocked chipset

23 April 2020
The A13 Bionic chipset in the $399 iPhone is closer to an iPhone XS Max than an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

It'll be equally unstable, without great comfort extras and, in fact, a cheap peace of junk with an expensive engine but in this case even tunned down to not break the battery.

If someone expected Apple to undermine their $1000 phone line with this phone was setting himself up for a disappointment. I am not going to bash Apple for selling this phone because it's still a great deal for people who aren't enthusiasts, but outside of USA it's DOA. In Europe it costs €549 and from that money you can straight up buy a OP7 Pro or a P30 Pro with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage

PartTimePhoner, 23 Apr 2020Why would they work that hard for a $399 iphone mateCause in that price category I can find many great phones. If they don't care to give me best, then I will spend my money on some other brand.

RejZoR, 23 Apr 2020Because that's not how things work. If they'd redesign any ... moreThen nobody should buy this phone.

People who are bashing and complaining must be Apple haters, or specs head.

uk7866, 23 Apr 2020The lower the clock doesn't mean the greater the efficiencyIt could be, because you're limiting the CPU at which they could run maxed out at.
They probably underclocked the chipset to avoid the SoC going overwhelmingly powerful when tasked to perform something that requires a lot of power, which would drain the battery faster and may even cause more heat (the phone is so small, so there's barely enough ventilation inside the body for heat to dissipate - Apple engineers might've figured this out right before they made this decision).

And the funniest thing is watch their fans believing that they are paying for the most performance phone... As aside the SoC that phone have a lot of flaws and nothing interesting to offer. Only the price in US because at the price in Europe you can buy an Android phone with an SD865 or SD855 a lot better in any sense. So funny.

Well, let them waste their money in that small overpriced junk in the majority of countries. Then hide it when a good Android phone cheaper is side by side near you to not feel ashamed. :D

Yeah, this iphone is crap :)
Not to mention, the optimization that iphones have. I can bet all of my money, that this iphone SE will get steady and reliable software updates for at least 5 years, which is not bad.

Is this even real. I have just ran AnTuTu on my iPhone 11 and it has overall score: 490623

                    CPU: 149337
                    GPU: 207479

Whackcar, 23 Apr 2020As expected, the Apple fanboys are defending this dishonora... moreHow can it be a scam for just not mentioning about it?
It's still an Apple A13 Bionic chipset inside running anyway, and as of this moment, the SoC, even in underclocked state, is still overkill for most of the tasks that majority of people would use their phones for.
Besides, it's for the user's own good anyway, as being underclocked means you trade the performance increase for increased power efficiency, and given how efficient a standard-clocked A13 Bionic chip in the iPhone 11 series is, I'm pretty sure this iPhone SE 2020 would also be as good as its bigger siblings, if not any better.

Anyway, even at that underclocked state, it's still more powerful than most Android devices around the same price range, and it could even go toe-to-toe with the best-performing Android phones this year.

Not defending Apple or being a fanboy whatever. In fact, I still dislike how they missed out a lot of fantastic features for this phone to make it the best $400 offering (it could've gotten a proper Night Mode at least, the quality would still be worse than the iPhone 11 series anyway, so they have absolutely nothing to worry about it).
It's just that it's wrong to make a call on something that isn't definite, and perhaps we could appreciate what they're doing good while intelligently criticizing their bad decisions in order to encourage OEMs to improve the quality of products that they're going to bring to the table.
There will always be a fault on things, because nothing is absolutely perfect in this world, but being a critic on something just for the sake of being a critic, man that's definitely not right.

Antutu benchamark on cpu, gpu and memory, iPhone SE 2020 has one gigabyte less memory than the iPhone 11, this affects the final result

The difference is small compared to the cheapest iPhone 11 with A13 SoC, according to the Antutu Benchmark.
                            Iphone 11: 517.400
                            iPhone SE: 492.166
                            That's just 5% less performance.
The difference is bigger between similar Smartphones with SD855 SoC.

Alex 94, 23 Apr 2020And what is the point of releasing phone with a13 which is ... moreBecause that's not how things work. If they'd redesign any part of the phone, it would cost more. Instead they paired superior efficiency of A13 with small battery. Processors, the lower they are clocked, the more efficient they become. Meaning they clocked it down a bit to drop it into sweet spot to work with that battery. I was literally expecting this because there is no way 1800mAh battery would last whole day with A13 at full clock. iPhone 11 would then last for 2 days...

While I generally don't trust this Antutu rubbish, but as the phone's price is cheaper, lower performance ans quality is expected. But it seems that Apple has cut too many corners in its SE model. Overall it turns out that the SE is inferior crap.

Better invest in any of the iPhone 11 models as they're much better or wait for iPhone 12 which is expected to be groundbreaking, for an iPhone.

At the very best, the 2020 Android flagships are still a tad behind the Apple A12 Bionic in terms of raw power, and let's not forget about how long will this amount of power remain usable. We just cannot deny the fact that Androids will tend to slow down after about a year since they came out, while iPhones would take at least 3 years before major slow down becomes noticeable.
My iPad Air 2 is a living proof of this statement, which is still considerably going strong up to this day, and it's still fast enough that I don't even realize it's already turning 5 years old this year. But the same thing just can't be said for, say a Galaxy S7 and Google Pixel 1.
If there's one thing that iPhones definitely must be credited for, it's the unparalled performance made possible by class-leading software and hardware integration that Apple spends a lot of effort into.
Just come to think of it, there are many gaming Android phones with insanely high refresh rates and awesome SoC cooling system built-in to provide the best possible gaming experience, but most players in mobile-based tournament games still prefer to use iPhones and iPads for even as old as an iPhone 8. What else could the reason be for that? Obviously, because things just perform better on iOS devices.

A complete scam. They only advertise the powerful SoC, the single thing decent in that phone and then ohhhh is underclocked to the point to be far below the SD855 from last year. While at that price you can buy full performance SD855 Android phones with all better.

Watching the ridiculous battery and all small in that phone it was expeted.
