"The Galaxy Note20 likely won't disappoint."
Sure, like the Exynos S20 didn't either.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2020Qualcomm, Mediatek, Huawei Kirin, Apple Bionic, Samsung Exy... moreI did specify for flagship SoC's. And that literally leaves Qualcomm and Mediatek. And mediatek seems that it's always behind 2 years compare to Qualcomm. So no we don't really have any competition. which means Qualcomm can charge as much as they want for their top tier SoC's.

Exynos isn't that bad. I'm using S6 Edge. It isn't really fast but not slow as well. Works good.

[deleted post]On a large screen phone they're terrible. 200 grams of palm cutting torture. Sony insisted on it for years, the square edges, and nobody liked them.

992 will score high in benchmarks but utterly fail in power consumption tests as usual.
Samsung's only hope is to fully ditch the custom cores and go for 4xA77 which will reduce the die size by 20% at least, even on 7nm+

Oh god, I hope Samsung delivers. They hype their chipsets up, but then they end up falling short...
In my region, there is only Exynos available so I really hope Samsung delivers!

Is this first time they upgrade SoC between S->Note?
So they know their SoC is suck now. lol

sm4rt4ss, 28 Apr 2020Agreed. And they could use 1-2 year old flagship chips on t... moreThey did that once. Galaxy A8 2016...
A shame they stopped because while the Exynos SoCs are no match for the Snapdragons ever since the E8890 (the last good one), they would indeed be very good midrange offerings.

The problem is that Exynos just aren't reliable. Even if it's more powerful than Snapdragon, I'd still choose the latter anyday.

Exynos flagship chips are garbages. My S10 plus heats up a lot when I am doing with a lot of multitask and gaming.

This piece of news triggered a massive facepalm out of me and a burst of laughter. Last year's Exynos was on an 8 nm node and it performed miserably against SD855. Then they switched to 7nm and did equally poor against SD855+. Now they're switching to 6 nm...Who wants to bet the Ex992 architecture still won't beat that of SD865 despite a more advanced node? I hope history will contradict me, but I really don't think it will...

Whackcar, 28 Apr 2020Samsung should just use Snapdragon on flagships, and Exynos... moreAgreed. And they could use 1-2 year old flagship chips on the new midrangers, for example A52 with Exynos 990. :D

ponk87, 28 Apr 2020I really hope that they will manage to do it since we need ... moreQualcomm, Mediatek, Huawei Kirin, Apple Bionic, Samsung Exynos. I see 5 different makers and without Samsung and Huawei there should be 3 makers left. Competition is good. Giving under par performance and heating issues on par price with competitions is not so good. Maybe with the new Exynos 992 will be a good sign in going in the right direction if Samsung skips custom cores. Anyways there will be a huge gap in the autumn when Snapdragon relese SD 865+.
