The 1 already had a great camera. This one is better, not only in terms of quality, but also features.

Each one can be more or less biased plublishing the real optical zoom. But at least is more understandable for usual users that use the focal lens in mm. Also there are phones with 5x and 10x optical zoom available now like the P40 Pro+ with two telephoto cameras 3x and 10x optical. Also Xiaomi have phones with two ones and 5x optical. Honor, etc.
For a phone that cost 1250 euros an around 2.5x optical zoom seems really poor. And the use of the focal lens in mm a way to hide it. All camera apps change between the cameras according with the use and zoom you use unless you enter in manual/pro mode. Looks more like a marketing trick to hide the real optical zoom in the phone than other thing...

Do not expect more than 107.
When review of 1 was published, someone from Sony said the phone was not tunned according to DxO. Now use your creativity.

Dxomark will just mark this one around 115-117 tho because they arent professionals in photography they are just good in point and shoot.

You had to release it faster Sony. We need the phone, not just promos, info, data sheet. Mobile Phone World is mega fast. Today you are good, tomorrow you have 3 new competitors with the model you still haven't delivered to a single customer.
Sorry I couldn't wait another month and order new phone. And now my next one will be mate40pro if it delivers, or spring 2021 something else. Sorry.. You are so slow with getting it into 1st customers, Sony... So slow!

Am i the only one that doesn't give a rats bum how well a smartphone camera performs? $399 dslr may not be as convenient but if you are in need of Best photo quality what's the extra weight. Plus you can't cheat physics with these small sensor and lenses found in ALL smartphones.

Previous xperia 20.7MP had 10x digital zoom.
If you apply 10x digital, resolution drops to 1/100.
10x digital zoom for the 70mm camera would be 700mm, but with 0,12MP quality.

But stacking a.k.a HDR+ will bright shadows more than they are in reality. Why this fetish for bright shadows? If liht does not hit there directly , it is supposed to be dark, not bright.
Just one of the many things that makes photos HDRish look artificial.
If you take an non-HDR photo and apply HDR on edition, 1st thing you will notice is different WB. More contrast to make it easier to see details and saturated colours. Your sky will be much bluer, white walls will have warm tones, green of plants too.
Photographers sometimes use image stacking, but they correct with edition.
As brands push more and more the HDR to make background blue sky, the rest of the scene goes even more artificial.
I remeber to see a video from those youtubers, they guy said he liked more photo from s10+, despite the fact the skin of his friend was yellow.
In the end, wrong settings can ruin your photo much more than bad processing. Otherwise a bad processing would never allow you to take great photos with right settings.
Want better night photos? Do not let iso goes 800, 1600, 3200, 6400 , ...
If it goes, it is your fault, not phone's.

Eye AF in tele camera, zoom while recording video, quality mic recording, if possible better panoramas, spherical/live/...shots, no touch-shoot-save lag, at least 10x optical zoom.
I will believe it is capable if it get to the top of DxO with its ''alpha'' cameras. P40pro and the others are there waiting. Its not just good enough having great hw.

Samsung says the periscope is 5x (it would be 130mm) , but is 4x (104mm).
Even worse info.
Also, people that have ZERO knowledge of camera setting of course will not be using Photo Pro. They will use regular app.
Same way who does not know how to control video wont use Cinema Pro.
Both apps are made to give you the experience of using expensive gear. Not even A9 ii ($4500) has what Cinema Pro offers, not even 10bit recording.

Basically every phone can expose for the sky manually. The important thing is: Exposing for the sky and still getting bright, natural looking shadows. Shadow settings are extremely underestimated. Shadow settings make it possible to manually expose for the highlights and still get a bright photo.

It is only possible to be used unless you shoot static subject.
For moving subject, each frame will be slightly different. Then you cant overlap them.
It is like merging 3 photos that one uses 1/2500s, one uses 1/1400s and one uses 1/800s.
Try to do 100 photos burst with Pixel. I doubt you can get 5% of the shots in focus.
Probably near 100% with this phone.
Remember TopShot of Pixel 3? 1MP without AF.
While XZ2 predective capture was 19MP with AF.
Default app usually chooses LANDSCAPE even when HDR should be used.
With all manual controls you choose exposure and shutter speed, this way you wont have shutter 1/200s when it should be 1/2000s.
Impossible to have blown out sky with shutter 1/2000, 1/2500, 1/4000 or 1/5000s.
But you will have with 1/80s, 1/100 or 1/200s .
This phone is made to be like A9 ii. That is why they put this camera behind the phone n promo material.

The same sony, just marketing, year after year sony put a pathetic camera in all sony phones, everything is just liars, even a samsung s6 beat an xz premium and all his line, just liars with their camera, I have 12 models by sony, all are garbage on camera. LG V30 was a really camera, NOKIA 808 Was a realllllly camera, NOKIA 1020, but sony will made the same garbage camera, they trick with images on internet and lenses and bla bla bla, Look better other camera phone...

And also let them to choose better the zoom they want when they watch the specifications. 2x, 3x, 5x...
The 33 grades of vision are very typical for those 70 - 200. But obviously it is a supposition/assumption. Anyways it's safe to tell that the optical zoom will be between 2.12x and 2.85x.

It will be very important whether there will be settings for Sony's DRO and whether Sony has improved its dynamic range and multi frame noise reduction algorithms.
Sony's DRO is comparable with Google's shadows slider (Samsung offers a shadows slider, too) (though Google's shadows slider has the advantage that it works in auto mode). But the difficult thing for the developers is producing a natural looking image when choosing different shadow settings.
