I'm an IT student and I've done an Android programming project in the past. It may not be as efficient as Symbian but it works for me and many other people. (Used a Symbian phone for 1,5 years but switched to Android and liked it better.) Guess there's always something that can be improved.

Look My N9 device having meego was dead. But still my device is working without any flaws. Strange na?? Same goes to Symbian. Now fandroids will attack me with their tons of apps and games excuse. Look all the basic apps what i needed are all available in Nokia Store. For games I use my PC. I am happy with my N9. I need a stable, smooth OS and intuitive UI in my phone. And my N9 is rocking.

I am both Symbian and Adnroid developer and I can tell you that Symbian runs faster! Symbian has a microkernel, thus it is very memory friendly becuase it does not load all the kernel in RAM, while Android uses linux kernel that is monolitic and needs to be loaded all of it in RAM, that's why android needs much more memory (remember that symbian was running on 64MB phones years ago!). Also the speed of Symbian is because it runs native code unlike android that runs apps within a virtual machine, the Java Dalvik machine. Nokia failed to update the UI for symbian, but they did it with Belle, I can say that Belle is much nicer than android, much easyer to use, organized. android has as many UI configurations as device manufacturers and that confuses users. So, the only thing that Symbian needs to be king again (if some manufacturer would support it) it is a bigger resolution and this is possible with Qt (it was possible before with Nokia E90, but Qt is better).

Second, you don't know a thing about me. Sometimes, when I get bored, at work, in class whatever I find a nice news post, reply to something and gauge people's reactions. It's just that you Nokia fanboys are just amazing targets. A little while ago one guy got completely fed up with me and started calling me names which was really funny. Like I care when people say Galaxy S3 is ugly. I don't like it either. I'll just buy something I do like regardless of brand.
Back on topic: Android is a reality. No one knows what the market would look like right now at this point in time if it hadn't existed or failed to gain the interest of masses. But it did and some manufacturers decided to take advantage of it. It's all about opportunities.

They have put commitment and hard work in making their own OS. While other companies just borrowed it from Google. Once Google decides to stick to one company it's over for the others. So now you got the point? We were discussing about company's own commitment, efforts and hard work. :)
