$735? I'm sorry, but that's only $65 less than the V60 which has more powerful chipset and a bigger battery. As much as I like the Velvet design, the V60 is still a much better buy.

Anonymous, 07 May 2020If we don't stop buying overpriced phones like this one, th... morewell if somebody gets something more than the "specs" then this handset is not bad at all...
on the other hand, if we buy phones that has "high spec low price" then manufacturers might think that we are just interested about specs, same goes with looks...
most chinese phones are actually like that...
but since i am satisfied with this kinds of handsets and find no reason to get a "high spec, low price" like mi 10 (if that is the case) then i will be staying with handsets like this...
i only had one LG though, LG G4 and it was great during its time... now on the drawer since the battery has already too low capacity...
with similar, pricing or maybe pricier, i now focused on xperia devices and they are still usable - miro, z1 compact, z3, z5 premium... am not sure if chinese phones can last that long, but that is the "risk" i dont want to dive into... besides my coworkers change their phones yearly or a bit more... for different reasons, like defective parts, degrading battery, marketing because they feel like they miss something if they dont replace their phones, some are just attracted with price... but in the end pays more than those who keep pricey phones for 2-5 years...
the bottomline here is, just buy what suits you and let other buy what suits them, pricewise or whatever criteria there is...
and hey you cant find a phone exactly like velvet at lower price... :D

Do LG even want it increase their market share? Because with this pricing it seems they don't. They've already retreated from most markets. Hardly release any phones in Europe anymore

Marco, 07 May 2020Hey, I made a booboo, sorry. I was quoting official prices,... moreSoftware support of OP is miles better than anything LG does to be honest (LG g7 vs OP6 for reference, my op6 is running android 10 since months, g7 won't get it), plus OP8 is literally same one sold at verizon, except that has ip68 for 100 more, so I think it is safe to assume that standard one is just not certified. Lg will have better audio for sure, but is that better audio worth a hit in processor, display and software support? and mil std is utter nonsense, glass is glass and glass breaks

Think LG is gonna become GL - going lower, and then OOB - out of buisness.

Marco, 07 May 2020I never said the LG was a flagship. I was replying to those... moreActually u are wrong again. Flagship price doesnt exist. The OEM dictates the price. There is not such a thing "its the lux price" or "it should be this price" or what ever. I wrote this on poco price article.
The price is set by Apple long time ago. When they released iPhone X at 1000+. The same thing did Samsung it just followed. The idea was that Samsung determined that they are the same as Apple. No less no more. They assumed they were the number one in the world in Android. So they set the price exclusive to their brand. Why would Apple just benefit from this and Samsung cant. That was their idea. But then every other OEM followed the same principle. Why would Samsung be better then any other. Everybody was special and everybody would have that action and the cake. But it doesnt work like that. You cant have an increase in flagships and increase the price further. Samsung s20 ultra is set to 1400$. That is an increase over iPhone X. That trend will continue by making a new price at 2000$ being a "special" thing. Im not talking about gold Vertu im taliing about product evolution. But they are all wrong. Without demand there is no price. The bubble will collapse. So your thinkig a flaship device is a flagshio device is all wrong. When time comes. Why would people pay kore then buying a new Iphone. Never. It doesnt make any sense. Mobile industry in terms of pricing will collapse sooner or later. And we will get the real price as it should be. Im not paying 1400 for an Android. No way. Will buy iphone at 1000 any day. Android should not cost more then 800$ at the ultimate highest. Everything above that is a dirty game! Which u and me are paying for.

If we don't stop buying overpriced phones like this one, the Poco F2, Mi 10/10 Pro, One Plus 8, etc. Next year alleged premium mid-range phones will end costing 900 dollars and all the flagships above 1000 plus taxes. So no more phones with decent cameras and OIS at reasonable price will be available anymore. Only two years old flagships in a good offer will worth to be purchased.

                          Be ready for the future...

It will be over $1000 here in canada then...

We know that Poco F2 Pro is a rebranded and overpriced Redmi K30 Pro... (Xiaomi) At almost double prices than in china where cost 390 euros but they pretend sell it in Europe for 649 - 749 euros. Obviously we are not going to pay never and ever those prices and not buy their phones until they drop the price by 80%.

But... this mid-ranger with even worse cameras, notched and no OIS for 680 euros is the next level in the greedy scale. LOL LG need their own one. Is this how they solve the remove of the G series that had at time a great value for the price? This is ridiculous. They are digging their own grave, just like HTC and HMD - Nokia. Even Apple seems a reasonable alternative against this one LOL.

                                    R.I.P. Velvet...

When they said they wanted to focus more on design, we had to expect that this phone would be seriously overpriced compared to its spec sheet.

No, this is not flagship price. Over here you're paying over €900 for a Galaxy S20 or a Huawei P40. Even the OP 8 is €919, so if the Velvet arrives at less than €750, it's somewhere between €150-200 cheaper than any flagship. The Mi 10 8/128 is going for €799, and that's as close as it gets to the Velvet.

So, Velvet's design, IP68, video recording skills and price, are actually good arguments tor anyone not wanting to throw away €900. There are great €500 5G phones out there from TCL, Oppo an Xiaomi, but that's not where LG is aiming at.
