At this point, HTC's revenue is not bigger than the revenue of a moderately successful hotel in Paris, so I don't expect them to have too much money for R&D.

They need to make a full featured phone("3.5mm jack", "sd card slot", camera, etc.) with good design and reasonably priced if they want a comeback.

I've been looking forward to HTc's death ever since HTC One. A disastrous phone that was sadly getting all the praise. Ever since I wanted that company DED ... we are finally getting closer.

The thing with HTC is, they are pricing their phones to WHEY TO HIGH in comparison to the competition and there is no proof for justifying the high price, unless they are using diamonds as components.

Anonymous, 08 May 2020I question the survivability of LG with the Velvet release...I do too as it was priced too much and in a world of androids moving to hole-punch or popup they stuck with a notch which is a big problem if the phone was aimed to look beautiful. It look really nice and unique but the notch is not nice considering they could have done something else. And $735 is wayyyy to much for a SD735 5g.

In Sony's case, i feel like they are charging too much for their phones, as they don't seem to have a killer feature that to me is worth it. Same with LG but, I do support LG as they can be competition for Samsung in the display market and hopefully they can make a better phones. Better competition is good for everyone.

hTc actually has a fan base, of which we have been asking for years just to update their m7/m8 designs with flagship specs. Dropping the headphone jack early was not a good solution, thats why their u11/u12 lineup saw bad sales.
Even the Desire 20 Pro is supposedly running a SD660/665 chipset which is worse/older than the arguably best mid tier phone the Samsung A71 running a SD730 which is in the $399 market. How is hTc going to price their D20 Pro and who is going to buy a phone those specs?

Rk100, 08 May 2020I completely agree, no one, I mean no one look at a Nokia o... moreLG Electronics and Sony have other strong divisions, they're doing so well (especially Sony) that they don't care much about their smartphone divisions, yes sure that they'de like to have a good slice of that apple, but their situation is nothing like HTC, as for HMD, lately they've been making the same decisions that brought htc to where they are now, so I think they'll end up following them.

Like you said their brand name is now dead and will not survive, LG and Sony might survive but HMD and HTC might as well call it quits and stop loosing money. They jack up prices that make absolutely no sense at all and they don't have any innovation.

Your comment is nothing more than an infodemic - don't spread misinformation and disinformation to further your goal of detaching people's love for the once innovative and inspirational company prior to Google's announced purchase in September 2017, for half of HTC's design and research talent, as well as non-exclusive rights to smartphone-related IP for $1.1 billion.
Despite Google having acquired great talent, its Pixel range continues to fail to impress, indicative of Google fixation and lust on data-harvesting and ad-stuffing onto displays.
HTC has always been a Taiwanese entity, and shall remain so, regardless of those who attempt to smear HTC with their red communist totalitarian egotistical paintbrush.
Long may HTC live.

For those who are endeared to HTC, I wonder whether you are aware that during 2013, Microsoft were actively pursuing negotiations to purchase HTC, which was only brought to light by the then chairman of Nokia, Risto Siilasmaa, in 2018.
Perhaps HTC would have brought a more productive and long-lasting partnership with Microsoft than that of Nokia. Alas, we shall never know.

HTC designed some remarkable phones and sure that had good engineers. But CEOs and executives always have the last word and when they take bad decisions there is nothing todo unless shareholders fire them at time. You can also watch it in how cheap Google phones looks like. Bad looking design plus cheap building materials and also removed features that HTC flagships had. Sure that engineers from HTC would have preferred add few things to those Google phones. I also doubt that they wanted in the future only design mid-rangers as the upcoming Pixel 5 phones will be. Cheap overpriced products as a test hardware to develop what is important for them, the software. But no interest in research and innovate in hardware. Only following what others do but under their own brand so they can maximize profits.
Idem for HTC, they at some point priced them badly at the time they were sold with Chinese phones arriving and not giving enough aftersales support to their customers or something valuable to retain them. Then releasing overpriced phones, decidating their facilities to manufacture other phones instead of compete better. Then renting their brand to unknown crap ones with crap phones under HTC name.
The history of this fall is large. Nothing related to engineers, bad decisions from above, when they had enough reputation to not be as greedy and if needed restart from a lower point at time, gain adepts and fans with their quality products with a lower margin of profit and then expand themselves again. But for some reason instead of to that they decided to cut here and there and selling. Seems that their CEO and shareholders instead of find a viable future only wanted liquid money in quantity instead of invest in a new strategy.
Now maybe it's too late as for resurge, you need enough money to invest and produce goods that are attractive to the customers. Something yet to be seen actually.
