iPhone 11 gets above-average selfie camera score on DxOMark but doesn’t make top 10

07 May 2020
Unsurprisingly, performance was quite similar to that of the iPhone 11 Pro series.

Sam Q, 07 May 2020So you wrote this epistle because you don't like selfie cam... moreSo you create an account and wrote your first command/answer to complain about something who spend his time trying to make smartphone betters? Dude take a chill pill.
The overwhelming majority of smartphone users use the only option available and want fulldisplay and hate notch and holes (that they only like because it allow the closest to fulldisplay) and would be happy to have a damn holographic display and since they buy anything anyway manufacturers keep making the easiest cheapest thing while charging it like if it cost the most.
If you can somehow convince 100millions people to keep holes, no privacy and miss holographic and retinal projection you can get your complain to make sense.
LOL!!

I still don't get iPhone's camera. If you compare it with all other phones the iPhone still has this 'appealing' result even tho its much more grainy or less-detailed. Same goes for its selfie camera.

A lot of peoples don't realize that, but the screenless display market is starting to become really important.

Hanif Fikri, 07 May 2020For video call, stream?I am not saying we shouldn't be able to see ourselves on the display, just that there is no need for that just to take a picture.
There are many alternatives to holes and notch for that :

*Thin Bezel, that many peoples hate despite accepting a chin as big as what a good bezel should be.

*Pop up camera, that many peoples complain about totally irrelevant and false fear about them.
Camera on the back with either :

*Second display on the back, which can actually benefit many peoples as you can make both an Oled on the front and an LCD on the back (many prefer LCD over Oled).

*A deployable mirror on the back (or integrated into the phone case that is delivered with the phone) which would work the same way as "periscope case", like that :
              https://www.iphoneness.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/10/Periscope-Case-for-Smartphones.jpg
As for the the deployable one, and for the front facing one, like that :
              https://pocketnow.com/files/2010/12/OneMoreFace09.png
Except with a second mirror that make the main camera basically a selfie camera.

*The best solution would actually be to have retinal display, literally a projector made to project an image into your eyes (already exist) and which will be able to make you see a display in the back of your phone, or in mid air, or even better with 3D objects in mid air like Princess Leia's hologram, the best part is that since it come with face and eye tracking, it will automatically have Iris scanner being mandatory and 3D facial recognition naturally build it, with hand gesture recognition you can have an amazing interface, and a quick macro movement where you point at your eyes then at someone else's face or camera will basically make the image being available for multiple peoples and for cameras, you can also use it as a video projector, it would be by far the best solution to get rid of the front facing camera and get fulldisplay, privacy and also gaining multiple biometric security features and an amazing display alternative that can do many things on top of replacing an actual display on the back.
Hell you can even have a damn HUD while walking around to guide you and give you informations without needing to get your eyes away from where you walk at, Iron Man style, without helmet, glasses or anyone noticing it, just by holding your phone the same way you would while writing sms while walking, but just with its back facing you.

I would be totally fine with a smartphone that simply have no front camera and no alternative or compensation as I never do any video call, Snapchat filters and other stuff like that, but I would still love a pop up and do sinful things for the retinal display projector on the back !

I don't even get why peoples take selfies from the front camera anyway...
For decades peoples were using camera that had films where you don't have room for mistakes, without anything to see themselves, with quite heavy and really fragile camera that weren't easy to handle with a single hand, and it worked wonderfully well.
And many other did and still do with smartphone the mirror selfie type.

But suddenly anyone need a selfie camera to see the picture on the display while taking it, even though you can redo it as much as you like without running out of films or memory (just remove the one you failed, even there I don't see how you can fail that...), even if the selfie camera are clearly less better quality than the main/portrait camera, that it cause stupid stuff like hole in displays and lack of self image privacy, and that anyway peoples won't care about said picture that will get like 2 or 3 likes on Instagram...

DxO Mark are actually dumber than I thought, they ranked a smartphone that takes some of the best selfie shots available on social media slightly above average 😂😂 what a waste

I was having iPhone 11 and the camera system were quite impressive, especially its selfi cameras for certain situations like Stagelighting, Personalised stickers etc...with black & white options really amazing quality single person or two person close up shots(now I have both XS Max & 11 Pro Max, I can easily tell that iPhone 11 Cameras are really superior to most of the mobiles out, main issue is its display) not suitable for wide angle group shots and for that matter most the mobile selfi cameras barring one or two not suitable at all even for social media sharing....

Anonymous, 07 May 2020iphone 11r is the lower end model . No surprise Maybe it is, in iPhone 2019 lineup, but, it is such a better phone, rgan iPhone SE, with way better design, also battery life is at least 40% better than in SE.. So iPhone 11 is really good (budget) iPhone, and not iPhone SE
