It's cheating and deception. If you turn off AI (moon mode), then the real horrible photo of the moon as captured straight from the phone camera is the result.
The P30 Pro's AI is not only doing sharpness, saturation and noise reduction adjustments. The AI software is also manually replacing portions of the real captured moon image with clearer, sharper, more correct versions based from its moon database on what those details should look like when taken with a more capable camera.
Camera tests from the P30 Pro show that AI (Moon mode) adds moon details that the camera thinks should be there and removes 'wrong' moon details to the raw moon snapshot of the P30 Pro that shouldn't be there:

6x zoom is great. 10x is alright if it was optical. above, probably doesnt make sense because not stable.

There are phones with 5x and 10x optical zoom today so they are useful for those people that want optimal images from far objects. Those with 5x and 10x ones are useful and you can take photos from far object without lose quality. Macro cameras and depth sensors are the ones useless. Even ultrawide ones are often useless too, about all at night.

This might be the most useless feature I've seen on a phone. Who in their right mind needs a 60x zoom. And it is a gimmick that is 3x and the rest is digital,except like 30x which may be hybrid. I hope they don't charge extra just for this gimmick.

ishreal, 08 May 2020No this controversy wasn't actually proven. Someone claimed... moreYou can believe what you want but the Huawei P30 Pro moon shots are plain FAKERY. Realme X3 is most likely using the same fakery.
Anyway, if you have a P30 Pro, download a high resolution moon photo from Google photo search. Edit/Blur the jpeg image so that no details are discernable. Print ithe blurred image in high quality photo paper. Using your P30 Pro, take a shot of the blurred moon printout using the P30's 'moon' mode. Voila! you'll get a vastly better photo complete with details that were never present in the photo print out!
You can also intentionally add foreign details, flip portions of the jpeg moon file, distort it then finally blurring the entire image and then printing it. Again, take a photo of the print out using the P30 Pro's moon mode and voila! Moon details restored that DO NOT contain the revisions you originally added before blurring the jpeg file.
Another test is not blurring the jpeg file. Just add an extra crater or another moon like detail. Print out edited jpeg file without blurring and take a shot using P30 Pro's moon mode. Voila! The details you added like the extra crater is gone!
If that isn't FAKERY, I don't know what is.

Someone claimed it was fake imagery but many people came out with videos to test this but the phone captures a real moon shot. This guy even compared it to his dedicated camera photo and it's spot on real (even though the quality is much worse than what would come out of a real DSLR/mirror less camera)

The phone actually only has a 3x optical zoom lens which goes up to 30x with digital zoom. They only say it's 60x because they count it from ultrawide lens.

You can go far away from the city where there is no light pollution and watch the Milky Way Galaxy with your naked eyes in a clear night sky. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE NEAR the bluish photo taken by this camera. Besides, most phone owners live in cities with plenty of loght pollution. How can one possibly take a decent photo of the Milky Way galaxy, even with a high end dSLR and some expensive specialty lens. The city's light pollution kills it!
