Weekly poll results: the LG Velvet can have a bright future, but the price needs to come down

17 May 2020
While the Wacom stylus support and V-series like MIL-STD rating are typically high-end features, the rest of the phone leans towards the mid-range.

Tons of flagships with a lot better specsa re for grab up for half price or less.

Sad with that pricing. This shouldn't cost more than $600. If both the dual screen accessory and stylus are included, it still shouldn't be higher than $700.

Look forward to the Taiwanese market price though.

For gods sake why can't LG EVER do the teardrop notch correctly?? All that top bezel should be filled, that'd make the phone look better. That's the only problem with this phone, that and price. If those two problems were fixed it'd be perfect

        Pricing LG...
Grat phone... AND you will drop the price, once it's off the hype train, which is no good.
It's no use launching a phone at 700$ and then dropping it to 350$ when no one buys it, better sell it at 450-500$ from the start & get people to buy it in the first place.
LG has a hit on hands, just need to price it right in this Corona hit price sensitive market.

And on the contrary, people still care about it. Speaking of glass, the rear of the LG from the video is also made of glass in case you missed it. It doesn't matter if that video is two years old, it still remains relevant.

YUKI93, 17 May 2020I do care about MIL-STD-810G. I'll be honest here, I'm quit... moreAnd the video shows the most important drop - front drop with cracked screen, which is the most annoying regardless of how much better in comparison. And speaking from experience, seldom people drop their phone at flat surface in a straight free fall. It usually at an angle with bounce/slide of the phone at uneven surface. And speaking from experience, even at a straight free fall of short distance at an unlucky stone/bump, the screen will be cracked with just one drop with the glass they use on the phones these days. So, still fail to see the advantage.

comparing this to a phone the iphone se because that is 399 is so stupid. actually shows how dumb some people are. that phone is small and probably has the worst battery in any recent phone. this is a mid tier but it's as good as the flagships were last year because i think the chip is closer to very close to the 855 when it comes to performance. while it may be expensive for 750 ish...and flagship erfomance from last year....it's really not that bad.

as we get old, we realize that some of the crap the media and companies try to hype us up with is things that aer mostly useless.

honestly, LG ui could be ugly(subjective) but how often are we in the UI of a phone. 90% of the time we are in apps. it seems sone guys gets big saying it and then everybody else just latches on and keeps saying it like a parasite.

this is one of those good phones bad price. this will fail which is a shame. But $735 for mid range device. the iPhone SE 2020 Galaxy A71 at $399 are so much better value. sorry LG if you priced at $500 it would sell big time.

They also chose speakers over quad dac, the former a public annoyance while the latter (wired headphones) is not.

I'll be honest here, I'm quite a clumsy people even if I'm using a case for my phone. So having such a feature means that I don't need to rely on my bulky phone case anymore. Plus, that MIL-STD feature is not a gimmick, it really is useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1uWeCSEyI8

I may well be a recent fan of LG, but I definitely agree that the price needs to come down. The $65 price difference between the Velvet and V60 just doesn't make sense, I'd rather buy the V60 straightaway. If the Velvet cost around $600 (which is $200 less than the V60 RRP), then we would be seeing a seriously potent upper midrange or even a flagship killer smartphone.

Nobody cares about MIL-STD-810G, there are better options for those purposes, this is a phone destined for regular consumers, what? Are we gonna use it in a submarine? It's all made of glass for god sake. So please gsmarena stop making it sound like some special feature that makes this phone stand out.

                                    same goes for Nokia 8.3

I really think that LG is already done....
                                      Just like HTC, BB, nokia...

                                      The reason,
their product feature & price/performance is not attractive enough.

                                      As for LG,
I used to own LG Nexus 4 & LG G2.
I must say that I'm not quite happy with LG Nexus 4
But the LG G2 is one of the best device at that era.

                                      But now,
                                      when I see LG,
I see underpower device with big price tag
                                      and small battery life
LG better focus on what they did best
                                      making home appliance.
