[deleted post]Yeah, i'm happy about that too, it would be against all principles for HMD and Nokia to be some copy paste brand.

Kangal, 18 May 2020Honestly, to take great shots with either the 808 or the 10... moreI mean, you understand their is something called internet and their are many comparisons between samesung and Nokia, and samesung is avarage at best, laking detail... a lot of it, showing it is a mear mobile camera even tough is huge. There was no efort taking great pics with the Pureview Duo, mostly was just a second or two more waiting and you had a shot that nobody could tell if it was a point and shot or something better. I must know, i had 1020 for 3 years and nothing compares to it, even now... that thing was a beast, especially in low light conditions at that time, one could actually shoot in the dark and still have good enough pic to see where he was, without blitz cause with it on the pic came out just like out of a camera. Samesung had nothing against Nokia, nothing, and they still don't.

Annyms, 18 May 2020I don't understand why this design was completely abandoned... moreNo. If you buy a 2019 pocket camera with 1/2.3" sensor, the lens aparat will be like this.
Newer lenses are better in quality, they do not spare space.

Carol, 18 May 2020You don't say? That is why Samesung abandoned the projekt? ... moreHonestly, to take great shots with either the 808 or the 1020, it required a bit of effort from the user. I know, I tested both. Modern cameras can meet or exceed these two sometimes, but the biggest improvement is that they're much more easier and faster to take a decent photo.
The Samsung took shots better than the Nokias, and it did it with less fuss. As a cameraphone, it's definitely head-over-shoulder better. As a phone? Well, it's not too bad. I don't have it anymore, so don't know about it's longterm viability... but it certainly wins in this category too since MS has closed its servers for Windows Phone.
The Panasonic is basically a Point'n'Shoot camera. Against my old Casio, it held up fairly great. Against my new DSLR, no contest. Compared it to the Huawei P30 Pro? The CM1 is definitely much better. People fall for the marketing gimmicks of multiple cameras, and fail to realise the physics of the problem: bigger lens and sensor = sharper image!
I would recommend people stop buying phones for the cameras. All you need is the mainstream single-camera from Sony Exmor/IMX, have OIS, and good microphones and bitrate recording. The ultrawide could be useful. The macro even less useful. And the zoom even less useful. And the gimmicks with the extra B/W camera, TOF, and Laser are mostly gimmicks. The "crappy" camera of the old OnePlus 7 Pro, in real-world, is the exact same as the overpriced new Huawei P40 Pro... they're both getting filters, after-effects, then compressed to social media. So this +$1,000 selling feature is debunked. Save your money, and put that into buying a proper DSLR.
An analogy is like getting one of those "campers multitool" where you have a small blade and a small hammer in one little device. Quite appealing on-paper. In real life, it's much much better to get a proper individual knife for cutting, and a proper individual hammer for hitting, as it's going to be much easier to do the task, and save you a lot of time.

Kangal, 18 May 2020Whilst everyone bragged about the Nokia 808, I thought the ... moreYou don't say? That is why Samesung abandoned the projekt? Cult of what? Lumia war never as popular as samesung in the past 8 years, so 1020 and 808 were way better cameras then this device. The only thing this one had good enough was the zoom, but whats the point of having one when the sensor was less then avarage? Recording was to laugh at and well, the size... And p30 is nothing agaist the quality of what Nokia produced, it is faster? Yeah, more features? in 2020 it better be. But that's about it. It maybe better then samesung but lets a lot to be desired in the end result... Panasonic has also a great quality but a bit of let down for that sensor, not impressed as i have hard times seeing a better quallity compareing it with the PureView duo.

Yee, 18 May 2020Hold on! So back in the day you had a hybrid of dslr and ... moreDSLR? You probably just heard the name, and tought it is ok to use it. DSLR has a reason why is called like that, and is not just for the sake of being interesting. This thing was merly a point and shot camera, that was not good enough for this name, with a phone attached to it.

Xperia Z family were amazing at that time without that lens and size. A lame flaw with tons of hardware issues...

Whilst everyone bragged about the Nokia 808, I thought the Lumia 1020 was better all-round. Then out of nowhere, that has a cult following.
So then everyone bragged about the Lumia 1020 (though the Lumia 930 was better all-round), I preferred this Samsung S4 Zoom over both.
People now have a cult following for the Huawei P30 Pro (Mate 20 Pro is equal/similar but cheaper, yet has no cult following).
...but the "king" of cameras is without a question the Panasonic CM1 (Smart Lumix).
However, I think you need the right tool for the right job, so a regular camera on a smartphone is enough (all those filters and compression!), and when you need the big-boy tasks that's when you resort to a proper DSLR from Canon/Nikon/etc etc.

YUKI93, 18 May 2020"...more smartphones give very beautiful pictures." Yeah... moreExactly, you don't even need that much big screen. A decent laptop screen can show the sharpening artifacts and water painting effects of smartphones

I'd love a phone like this now, some decent sized optics with the sensors that are now available would be fantastic. It's all well and good having a massive sensor and all that AI to generate the pictures, imagine having the AI + Sensor size + a big set of optics. Fantastic.

YUKI93, 18 May 2020I'd be happy to own a Google-less Huawei. Heck, my current ... moregreat for you, but as for me, I can't live without the banking app from my bank, poweramp, google maps, google mail, web.de - mail, chrome, AD-Block browser, several news apps i have, youtube app and instagram. Last time I checked on my almost dead mate 20 those are unfortunately not in appgallery, while it is most certainly not impossible to have a good user experience without G-Apps and G-Play it makes many things much more convenient and I don't see a single reason as to why I should pay the premium for a phone that can't provide those services, if they throw a P40+ or Mate30 pro for very good price to the market i could maybe get one but why pay 1000 euro for a P40+ when i can buy any other flagship that gives me the same if not better hardware plus the G-apps? Right, doesn't makes sense, they should get their sht together very soon or they will be dead in the western markets and that's a fact, numbers don't lie dude

Wezz, 17 May 2020What matters is the result, more years go, more smartphone... more"...more smartphones give very beautiful pictures."
Yeah, right... on the phone screen itself. View that same pic on an FHD or 4K PC monitor with 100% sRGB and it's a complete dog poo with worthless software oversharpening everywhere. Made much more visible when you print it out.

AnonD-926702, 18 May 2020have fun without google play service lol, huawei outside of... moreI'd be happy to own a Google-less Huawei. Heck, my current Samsung is running Havoc-OS custom ROM without Google Mobile Services and I'm not regretting it an inch. If only there is a Sailfish OS development for the Samsung phone that I'm using right now, I'd abandon Android altogether.
