Flashback: Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom, the phone that was mostly a camera

Its 1/2.33" sensor was pretty large for the time and had OIS (a rarity in 2013). But the headlining feature was the 10x zoom with retractable lens.

Bought a S4 Zoom back in 2015-still use mine often just for the camera.

      That video zoom looks great 😱

        This phone/camera could've been decent, but Samsung simply abandoned it after release. It didn't even get an OS upgrade, despite part of the Galaxy S line.

        This is one reason not to buy any Samsung devices that's not part of their main flagship. They would just abandon it without any care.

          A point and shoot camera running android is very good, but an android phone pretending to be a point and shoot camera is bad idea

            At 10x, this one has 16MP quality, while 20 Ultra already drops to 9MP quality at 3x (main camera).

            2x digital zoom = resolution/4
            5x digital zoom = resolution/25
            10x digital zoom = resolution/100

              The thing that let this phone down the most was that it let in tiny particles of dust into the lens unit after time that was impossible to remove resulting in marked photos

                Xerox flash is sorely missed...

                              Those 10x zoomed images look 10x better than 100x hybrid zoomed images from S20 Ultra...

                                I had the Galaxy Kzoom, and I still have it somewhere.
                                It was great phone, big screen for those days, wasn't as thick as the 4 zoom I think, and the photos has been great for that time.

                                Till now a proper zoom is what I really miss when I take photos on my phone.

                                  And now, 7 years later we have P40 Pro+ with x10 optical zoom
