The US is trying to cut off Huawei's global chip supply, China threatens retaliation

15 May 2020
The US Department of Commerce announced stricter rules for trade with China, affecting any company that uses US tech to manufacture chips.

Sort by:

Another thing, that blind threat that China will retaliate with Apple and others. Don't be stupid and believe that too.

Apple - thousands of jobs

Qualcomm - Xiaomi, BBK, TCL, Lenovo and many more would be crushed plus thousands of jobs

Many many many many MANY more catastrophic economic disaster for China.

China only talking on the side of its neck, and if China is stupid enough to pull the trigger and follow up on its threat, do China really believe that the US do not have anymore damaging business destruction moves it could do to China?

China cannot / will not win this dragon vs a TITAN idiotic path.

The US is in panic mode as Huawei's 5G is fully mature and certified and there is not a single company in the US that has 5G technology.

      Bahahaha!

What's so laughable is, people on here are really emotional from this news. What did you clueless Huawei's fans expect, no repercussions, when Huawei were deliberately sticking its tongue out at the US by circumventing the ban by releasing new phones (P30, Honor phones) in 2020 and using US parts/tech/equipment for the Mate 30, P40, etc. (80% of Huawei parts are from China but they all still uses US tech).

Let's be honest, Huawei has abused the US's reprieve extensions to spawn out new phones for today, and that was never the intentions for the extension. It was ONLY to keep all Huawei's devices that were released BEFORE May 2019 to still receive crucial SECURITY UPDATES but now, Huawei has completely lost confidence on that.

With the all the backdoors to adding ILLEGAL GMS on new Huawei's devices and what's stated above, Huawei should be thankful that the US are not seeking further company destructional damages. (YET)

China has never asked any country to ban those countries but the US doing so.
By the way, I don't agree with China's political system but the way the US is behaving is making China look like a saint.

Go wtach some of the professor Kishore Mahbubani's speeches, and you will see that Trump is actually losing friends/Allies from most places out outside of America.

The way he's doing thing is very shore terms thinking, and if the EU, Canada, as well as loyal lapdog like Australia is smarter enough, it is time for stand up & speak up that they don't need to be under America to live.

If the trade with China is considered good or fair for the rest of world, every countries should have their voice for the matter, and they shouldn't all just follow America's rear end like a Butler and listen to everything America say.

If the US and China wanted to have this (cold war), let the 2 have it on their own, EU, Canada, Australia as well as the rest of world should choose to do business with whoever they want, instead of being threaten or sanction by the US.

The Amazon Appstore works on any Android device and does not require said device to undergo any form of approval. Amazon doesn't sell their store to Huawei. Thus they don't deal with them. On the other hand, Google granting licenses directly means they do business with their licensees.

Alex 94, 15 May 2020ZTE also could work normaly with MTK or exynos chipsets.MediaTek vs HiSilicon vs Qualcomm isn't the issue here. It's how our government breaks down US origin technology or US made technology. Basically the government sets the rules and you either play by them or get closed out of the US economy. US economy being the biggest no company wants that. So it's pick your poison. There's been a lot of talk that this is good for Huawei in the long run. That could be true, but it's extremely restrictive in the short term.

TBF Huawei is a much bigger and more successful company than ZTE ever was so it's gonna take a bit longer for our government to cripple them. I can understand the potential espionage implications even though nothing has ever been proven, but what's the point of killing their consumer business?

Hope China ceases manufacturing components for and dassembly of iPhones and gets HTC to stop making Google phones citing "national security concerns". That would teach US a lesson.
