Sony releases video of pro photographer Nick Didlick praising the Xperia 1 II’s camera features

He doesn’t talk much about the image quality, but we’re excited to see if Sony has upped its game.

Besides its from Ultrawide, so you aren't putting less in that frame than 4k from normal sensor.

And why would you use digital zoom in video when a fantastic zoom lens with 4x optical is available for recording.

    Even few phones with 7xx come with 960@720p.

    Unlimited means software based. Just like it was applied to P20 Pro.

          Electronic Stabilization works by applying crop. Super Steady crops from Ultra Wide to reach FIELD OF VIEW of main camera.
          When you do this, footage is no longer 4K. It becomes 1080p.
          That is why digital zoom during videos is so low quality.

          For example: Smartphone XYZ has 13mm, 26mm and 52mm cameras.

          4K video from 13mm + SuperSteady Mode will be 1080p at 26mm and 540p at 52mm. You trade qulity for better stabilization. Which means you better record with the other two instead and accept OIS will make it jittery (you can check ultra wide that never has OIS is alway more stable than wide on any phone).

            Sony has the tendency of hyping up their products, I'll have to see it and use the features because some Sony mobile devices have amazing features that really underwhelm the user at the end

                  SD865 doesn't need dram for 960fps.

                  S20 ultra AF issues are long gone. They have been already fixed with update.
                  Although the autofocus would be slower compared to other dual pixel AF systems on the market.

                  Samsung super steady is the best on market.
                  Even during running, it keeps images stable, find X2 pro isn't that far behind.
                  IPhone does okay when walking but messed it up during running.

                    You mean better than one of the worst phones that records video? Seriously, you were not able to fi d even worse case?
                    Photos on the other hand? Nobody knows yet.
                    Sony always messes things up, but I am optimistic it won't suck this time.

                        Huawei does not have Leica.
                        Leica said they just give their Okay to quality.
                        They do not make the lenses.

The previous dram exmor for Samsung were Samsung design/Sony manufacturing. To do 1920fps it would need at least 2x the dram inside, which would make sensor extremely expensive. Do not trust a company caught 3x using Full Frame to advertise cellphone camera.

                            I said the success of AF depends on how it was well applied. Almost all phones used PDAF and do not have issues like S20 Ultra. No, S20/20+ do not have stacked sensor. Xperia 1 has same dual pixel, but much slower than 1 ii, this is execution not nature of the AF.

                            Z5 and XZ had much better SteadyShot than newer phones. Sony's fault. Of course you cant compare to cine cameras, they have much more processing power to keep up EIS working well. My point is it is another feature adapted to Xperia from their cameras.

                                this will be an amazing phone. Zeiss lenses what Sony mobile really needs. The fact is Sony mobile sensors put simply are the best in the world, And there implementation in other mobiles, is amazing. But where the Sony mobiles have not faired so good in the world against Samsung/Apple/Huawei is the lens system. So this will deffo be the Sony mobile to get this year. And give iPhone 11 pro, P40 pro, and S20 ultra a good run for there money

                                    Its cause they got the money. They get the first shipments of the hardware like processes and gorilla glass.

                                    They put a tone of money and resources to get their product out. Sony's mobile division is dying, laying of many workers already.

                                    Pretty obvious, if you lay off people - others have to pick up more work = delay in release.

                                    I'm not a Sony Fan, I'm a tech Fan. I want Companies to innovate and do well, cause that's better for the consumer.

It was something that was planned for defunct XZ4 from the very beginning together with 5-axis stabilization. Since XZP focused went from still photography to video capture, reason why OIS was never present on their sensors. What Alpha team did was add OIS to Xperia 1 in last minute decision and since Xperia's new 5 axis EIS implemented by old management was never meant to work with OIS that's why you get X axis choppiness in 4K or 1080/60, too much info to be processed or faulty OIS implementation. Xperia 1 is a transition device when it comes to photography but it's a beast when it comes to video. Unfortunately for video lovers future Xperias will revert to photography priority which is evident in X1II.

                                        One more fact about Steadyshot. Yes it's a Sony brand name but it's intelligent active mode in 1080/30 is yet to be beat and that's something that was available since XZ. Xperia 1 in 1080/30 Intelligent active mode gives you super smooth motion when going down the cascades, crane like movement. The biggest trade off is the dismal image quality, Intelligent mode really hacks the image quality big time.
