Sony releases video of pro photographer Nick Didlick praising the Xperia 1 II’s camera features

He doesn’t talk much about the image quality, but we’re excited to see if Sony has upped its game.

As it was with slomo, it will get copied and upgraded. Eye focusing is already on vivo x30, omnifocus is even not in xperia. Be it older flagships or now midrange, no support for raw.
1II is surely great, but 150mp midrange with those features is probably on the way.
May come even with new IR or full spectrum(uv+ir+visible) camera feature as it got more light(IR 50%, visible 40%, UV 10% - of light) so basically 2x boost.

        "ThEiR PrOcEsSiNg Is TeRrIBlE"

Since the focus of this phone is more towards manual mode, that has never been a problem with the Xperia phones.

And of course the raw capture is more important, that puts the Xperia 1 II over high megapixel sensors, RYYB and Quad-Bayer sensors.

In RAW there's no pixel binning, night modes or color correction, other manufacturer depends so much in auto modes, that when it comes to manual those phones are completely useless.

I can safely say that a photo in JPG manual mode of the Xperia 1 has more dynamic range than a JPG image in Pro mode of the S20 because Sony's work has been less dependent on multiple exposures, not like most.

iPhone has no competition in manual mode because the three cameras are available for third party apps, with full controls, even FilmicPro is better on iOS.

The Xperia 1 II is the only Android phone with completely manual mode for photo & video, this phone takes 8 FPS AF/AE in RAW, and that's frking insane. The 12 MP will deliver less noisy pictures and less noisy video, specially compared to the S20Ultra.

You can continue arguing that the processing of the Sony jpgs are still behind the competition, it is true, but you cannot deny that it offers what no one else dared to give.

Now everyone will be a professional photographer and a scientist in image sensors.

cut the cr@p people, if you like the image buy the phone, or just try it by yourself before buying it... enough with the nonsense.

Most underwhelming flagship of the year so far, awful Camera hardware, gimmicky software, useless 4k screen, small battery and price tag of the iPhone. Good job Sony, you did it again, every year releasing another failure :)

It would help if they launched the phone in the rest of the world.
With Huawei not having access to Google services there is a void that needs to be filled.
If only the marketing guys could take advantage of this opportunity.

                    - I'm talking about starting Mate 30, they likely using the 18mm sensor for stacking at max 960fps@1080 & 1920fps@720p. The 7680fps are the interpolated one. Better check your sources.

'Sony Alpha uses Hybrid AF and wipes the floor with Canon (who created Dual Pixel). AF success will also depends on how well it was executed. Nikon uses Phase Detection and does better than Canon too'
                    - I'm talking about smartphone comparison rather than actual camera. In smartphone world, its the other way around. Why do u think Xperia 1 starting using Dual Pixel?

'Samsung dropped stacked sensor too. S20 does not have. Fast readout is due to ADC'
                    - I heard they dropped it only on S20 Ultra.

'SteadyShot is no longer the best EIS. But is a feature that came from sony cine cameras'
                    - On Xperia, using trademark naming only. The quality are farrrr worse than actual cine camera. Other brands doesnt have fancy naming yet superior.

'By the way, do not believe the dirty marketing from Samsung. Dual Pixel does not cover 100% of the frame. No sensor on Earth has AF able to'
                    - Average joe will fall for it, but not me. Even Sony included shady marketing on its ad. But I still stand for Dual Pixel are the best & stabil AF implementation for smartphone.

Hybrid AF - still resulting in blurring effect, no matter what. I'll take Dual Pixel over this.

Stacked sensor - Not exclusive anymore, when Samsung & Huawei already using it.

Anti distortion shutter - I can vouch for this

960fps - Not exclusive anymore, when Samsung & Huawei has it. (Huawei can even manage true 1920fps)

HLG recording - This I agree. Every smartphone camera should have this option.

And I'm talking base on my experience using Xperia Neo, Arc S, S, Z1, Z2 & Z5 before.

If the bug is software related, it can be fixed via OTA. Samsung released their expensive S20 ultra with auto focus issue. They managed to fix it later via software update, but at least they already had the product shipping and people buying, keeping the hype. Not like Sony, who is only teasing the phone and does nothing until months later, when people already forgot about the phone.

Glad photos do no look fake like iphone or galaxy, also not with high contrast colours to force details to " show up" like pixel .

In fact, I don't shoot photos in Auto anymore even on my phones. There's so much things that you can control rather than letting the camera software doing the job but ended up getting a photo that you don't like. Plus with manual setting, I don't need to do post-processing as I have the shot that I want.
