If this is a serious comment it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

The customers should always be able to do whatever they want with their own devices.

Mediatek sux, 17 May 2020Mediateks cheating didnt repair pcmark scores, it used a sp... morePCMark test is to short to mais the device throttle...Mediatek never released things like crapdragon 810 that heat that fast!
Cheating methode is more a specific task scheduler...use higher idle frequencies to reach the max power fastly...
This lead to 1% or sometime 5% better scores...even far less when it's short GPU tests. Throttle limits can change results on test like "long term performances on Gfxbench"

I did test on PCMark behavior and compare it to "real" applications
In work 2.0 test, you've got for exemple a webbrowsing subtest...
Without cheating, during this webbrowsing subtest, big cores don't work...
With cheating, big cores will work.
Now if you open a "real" webbrowser and use it, big cores will work without any problem...
Score with cheating represents better the "real" applications.

PCMark is defaillant on nearly every devices I have tested!
On Mediatek with big cores misuse on mt8176 (Teclast T10), helio P60 (Oppo A3), helio g90t (Redmi note 8 Pro)
On Rockchip 3288 with disabled hardware video decoding (old test on Work 1)
    On Amlogic S912 with crash
    On Realtek RTD1295 with crash

Then yesterday the Redmi Note 10 5g appeared on TENA. Anybody would be annoyed if they pulled the trigger on an RN9 Pro and I think you need to get off your high horse about (Insert wise Gandalf voice) "Never have any regrets" etc.

Damn I would have had regrets.

Anonymous, 16 May 2020Xiaomi's product development is not bound by any fixed sche... moreYeah, this is very true from their snap and mediatek new SOCs. They are the first to release phones with new SOCs. And it is advantage to consumers because xiaomi's pricing is very affordable. Imagine if samsung release the first phone with newest snapdragon soc, they maybe price it 3x on what xiaomi's price would be. And we are glad that xiaomi is doing this for we have basis of pricing in the new SOCs. Also, prevent other brand to overprice their new release phone.

Anonymous, 16 May 2020My advice : do real test to mesure the reality of cheating.... moreMediateks cheating didnt repair pcmark scores, it used a special mode with higher throttle limit, which would give better scores, but wont be available outside of the cheating apps. They could just do a performance mode like huawei, unless mediatek isnt confident in their efficiency at that cheating mode. Or do they already have such a mode?

I wouldn't say the 855 is outdated, it's still relevant in 2020. Eventhough the 855 was launched in December 2018, no smartphone brands are utilizing it until the beginning of 2019.

LOL, redmi note 9 line was announced in March and it is being replaced already.

                      Terrible and misleading article.

First off, you claim that Dimension 820 has been benchmarked but then you claim that it's not confirmed to be Dimension 820, rather a speculation on the writer's part.

                      And Qualcomm's last-gen flagship isn't Snapdragon 855, it's Snapdragon 855+. Snapdragon 855 came out 2 years ago in 2018.

Custom roms are super important for me. My 3 year old redmi 4x runs android 10 and performs even better because 4.9 kernel then then the old 3.18 it came with. Battery backup is better on custom kernel and rom. If it weren't a snapdragon I would've been stuck with android 7 with miui. Never buying a mediatek cause snapdragon means android updates and mods.

The whole discussion was about soc. You can also find exynos chipsets on devices from other manufacturers than samsung. Also you didn't address my point of doing competition right rather than hefyw. Also doesn't it seem strange that it took them about a decade to gather evidence? I get the fact that it takes time, but i'd say the work process is worth investigating and the reason it finished then and not in 2015, 2016, etc. I'm likely pickey on that but these kinds of things tend to happen faster when apple is involved (there were some baseband royalty or something alike in the past few years). Again i see as having a stake in all of this and likely not as an average consumer, power user, root user, hobbyist.

Exynos nearly only exists because it's Samsung on Samsung's devices...it's not competition.
Kirin only exists because it's Huawei on Huawei's devices...it's not competition.
If you're not smart enough to understand this simple thing, I won't spend my time to explain what is standard essentiel patents (SEP) and why Qualcomm must licences at Fair Reasonnable And Non Discriminatory (FRAND) conditions...

These SEP incluse UMTS technologies, you give me exemple of the Switch...Switch hasn't UMTS modem! Your exemple shows you don't understand anything!
Tegra 4i did! Sales were horrible...because of Qualcomm's behavior.

Xiaomi probably should take steps to make all its future smartphones unrootable. This Custom ROM business does not serve the interests of Xiaomi or Xiaomi's real customers. One important side benefit of this measure is to effectively weed out those undesirable buyers.

I applaud all those phone-makers who have already made their smartphones unrootable.

Using hardware to it's fullest has never gone away, it just changed shape. Like with cars, power didn't change, it only got more efficient while the interior and sometimes the exterior styling has gone to the "Made in China" quality (which is actually worse than "Made in CCCP" even though both are communistic).

If nobody wants it then xda would be dead and the last time I checked its very active and pretty much any device is on there.

Is the general user going to want or need any of this?
probably not and that's fine, but there's plenty of people out there who want to do all of the above
