The battery loss is not more than 10-15% endurance for all the brands out there right from budget 120hz to premium 120hz devices.
So users who want to save that tiny 10-15% battery can easily switch to 60hz and do so.

That means 22 June for Europe! Come on Sony!!!

Anonymous, 21 May 2020How about wireless charging, fast charging, curved edge, OL... moreIt's more like "nice to have". If they can deliver 120Hz screen, sure I'm happy. But if it compromises battery life, I won't be happy.

Possible solution: if they implement bigger battery like 6,000 - 10,000 mAh? I'm happy with it as well. But if it makes the device thicker and heavier, suddenly I'm not happy anymore.

Fast Charging: Again, if it goes to Xperia phones, we're happy. But if it compromises the battery lifespan to carry enough charge due to the higher current, we won't be too happy.

Xperia fans are not complaining that other manufacturer's 'innovations' are gimmicks. It becomes so if they sacrifice other aspect of the phone for the sake of those innovations. We like Xperia because it's a great all around phones that's usable and practical in a lot of aspects. Long-lasting, great endurance, good build quality, and has an elegant design packed with powerful features.

If they can make a new innovation that doesn't introduce the drawbacks, go ahead (like IP certification since the Z series), or the Super SlowMo feature. Otherwise, It's better to hold off an innovation until it can mature and solve the drawbacks of those new technologies. Until then, I'd rather stick to a device that works to address the most fundamental things I 'need' in a smartphone. There's no need to be first at something for the sake of popularity and sales but compromises the integrity of what makes Xperia phones great.

Anonymous, 19 May 2020Oh you can't lift above 200g? Too heavy for you? Maybe yo... morePoint is not whether you can lift a mobile or not. First of all, I should teach you what a premium mopbile is. As I explained in previous comment. Premium means design, slim, lightweight yet with powerful features. If one of those compromise others, I don't consider them to be premium. Just show me one heavy thing that looks nice.

Ever heard of golden ratio?? To me, those heavy ugly things are nowhere near GR. No wonder they never won any design awards while Xperia has been winning red dot and IF design awards in flagships segments for past few years. There is a limit for everything. You can't mix everything. Premium should be premium, feature mobile shoulöd be feature mobile, gaming mobile should be gaming mobile.

Anonymous, 19 May 2020120hz is standard for 2020 flagships. Even 90hz is availab... moreThe thing is you can keep whatever you want in a mobile 16GB ram, 144Hz refresh rates, 10000 mah battery etc. Point is how much useful that is in your real life?? It is like fighting over Ferrari/Bugatti and economical VW polo. People buy what is useful for them. 120Hz is not useful unless you are using it for scrolling notification bar and twitter all the time. Even for games, Xperia indeed pushes the frames upto 120fps when needed and is proved. I prefer good battery life over useless 120Hz. May be after few years when battery tech is improved, that over soomthness is useful (at least for games) but not now. In the end use some common sense and practicality.

I don't know why there's a lot of hate coming to Sony in this thread. This device is catered for a different market segment than most other flagships or Chinese phones to. I don't think it's even comparable. There are better things that Xperia can do, and there are things that other phones can do better than Xperia.

120 Hz, Refresh Rate. It's nice to have, but if Xperia 1 II doesn't have it. It's not a deal breaker. I'm sure they have a good reason for not having it. If it is a deal breaker for you, feel free to buy other phone. No need to diss Sony for not having it unlike other 2020 flagship.

4000 mAh? Like I said, I think it's good enough, as long as they can manage their battery consumption and battery care management right. I want this phone to last 3+ years. If they can get 5000 mAh in the future, it's good. But just because everyone else is having 5000 mAh, it doesn't matter as long as Sony can deliver the right battery endurance.

Number of Sales = success? Not really. Sony's low sales number is a series of poor decision and management such as difficult global availability, too long wait time between announcement and availability, lack of global support services. Overproduction and overestimation of sales targets. All of this contributes to low sales. They can make the best phone ever, but without the right logistics and support, fewer people will buy them. I think they need to start seeing that they don't need pure sales number. They need proper market targeting. Focus on Sony loyalists, slow down on production but maximise logistics to have them available in most places and retail channels. Get those units sold to the people who wants to buy them, while sparing some limited effort to gain new ones. Most people don't look at Sony because they can't buy them or get them supported. Eventually, they never know Sony even existed, which doesn't help their sales number and therefore profits. Lower the cost, and focus on profitability for now. Don't race in sales number. Especially against Chinese phones that sells for half the price. Fight other players in the same segment like Samsung, iPhones.

Lastly, design is important. Just because everyone else is using notch/punch hole, ditching 3.5mm jack, 120Hz, doesn't mean Sony needs to follow. Sony has been sticking with what makes them work well, and I think it's good. Their design is elegant, and premium. Because that's their brand image. There's no need to follow the "playful" image of other brands just because they're more popular. Keep to the market segment that makes Sony great, and improve from there.

And everyone else should just stop saying "Ohh all 2020 flagship needs to have this, need to have that, etc." then "2021 flagship needs to have this, need to have that". "If the phone doesn't have it, it's automatically a BAD phone".. But it's not always the case, a good phone is a phone that can deliver exactly what the customer needs, and then some. Does it make Sony a little slow into the game? Perhaps. But it's better to be slow but doing them right, rather than being the first at something that they can't deliver to the full extent.

In the end, if you don't like Sony phones, don't buy them. We're not here to make you like it. We're all here because we're happy that Sony makes a phone that's worth buying, if it's not worth buying, we wouldn't be here talking about it. So stop trolling and leave. Just because you think it's bad compared to what you like, doesn't mean it's a bad phone for us.

Anonymous, 19 May 2020Says the guy who never used 120hz on Smartphones. Motion ... moreFirst of all software frame interpolation is how every single TV ever made achieves 120Hz (native 60Hz) or 240Hz (native 120Hz). There were some native 240Hz LCDs btw but besides that they all use software to come up with the missing frames. Remember VHS effect from 15 years ago when 24fps movies looked like soap opera? That's frame interpolation at work. It's not a gimmick.

Second and the most important is that 120Hz doesn't guarantee you a good viewing experience. Just like how if phone has OLED it doesn't mean that it's better than LCD in picture quality, people are mistaking that high refresh screens are actually better screens than standard refresh rate screens which simply is not true. On top of that midrangers with high refresh screens don't have enough GPU power to utilize constant 120Hz in gaming, actually I would argue they don't ever hit 120Hz.
