Anonymous, 22 May 2020To further illustrate compatibility point.
Let's say you... moreSorry mate, I didnt see any counterarguments that actually make sense. And I notice you dont understand how pricing and bundles work. You never get anything for free, all those extras - you pay for them even if theyre included in the box. Dicounts are not what you think they are, as companies will never start selling anyhing under its [base value + profit].
A bundle, as you said, is only a bit cheaper because there is no extra packaging required for individual accessories. And people who dont need accessories will buy just the product and nothing else, they wont get an extra charger or headphones unless they need it.
Also, I am not trying to convinve you of anything, I am just presenting fact about pricing and waste. Offering products in 1) just the product, and 2) product + accessories as a bundle, takes care of everyones needs. Those who dont need accessories will buy 1) and those who need them will buy 2).
If somehow my posts dont make sense (even though I went down and re-read all of them and found nothing unclear or illogical about them) then I might need to get better at writing and explaining things better.
And I get what you keep saying, but sorry those are very specific cases and they wont matter in the future as the world is moving towards implementing standards across ports, charging methods, and so on. I understand the issues you mentioned about using fast charge tech from different companies, but as I said, we are moving towards world-wide standards. Just like electricity, where you eiher have 110V or 220V. You dont have each country with its own voltage outputs and other specifics.
The whole idea is to create a unified experience where any charger would work at its top capacity with any device out there. The EU is pushing for that, so all manufacturers will be forced to adopt the same charging standards.
I am sorry you dont see things as they are and towards we are heading. However, no worries, its all for the better of user experience and the planet, even if you dont see it or understand it right now. All I can tell you is that I am more of a strategist and I work with observing and analysing trends, and building data-driven models. And everything I said is not said just by me, but its becoming widespread across the population, companies, and governments. I look at this on a global scale and I add standardisation in the mix, even though we dont really have that right now. But in the near future it will be a reality.
Your points, as I said, make sense, but only based on specific cases with specific manufacturers. You dont need to worry about that in the future because those types of incompatibilites and proprietary charging methods will disappear.
Now I think its time we both leave the interweb forums and enjoy the weekend.
Have a nice weekend!
Take care

Anonymous, 22 May 2020“ Underwear and socks aren't necessary, but might be apprec... moreTo further illustrate compatibility point.
Let's say you have charger and charging cable left from old phone. And they rely on their own proprietery method of fast charging (Oneplus, Vivo or say mediatek's own pump express or QC up to 2.0 version). If you plug your new phone which works with Power Deliver (standardized not a long ago) they charger will default to most safe voltage and current , meaning 5V x 1A , thus transforming into 5W basic charger.
It doesn't matter if phone company includes or not their fast charger; whatever fast charger I got in box , even 10W one (shame on you, Xiaomi) , it will still be better than what I have right now. And if I don't have one in box, I'll have to go and buy one. And If previous charger won't work even as basic charger for some reason, I'm screwed. Literally.
I'm not making this up, simply try to charger Galaxy S10 with oneplus 3/3T charger, same usb-c but not same charging speed.
Same with replacement cables and even with replacement chargers. They never worked as good or were reliable as original one.
So yes, it makes a lot of sense for me to want some things in box included and not waste more time to deal with incompatibilities.

Anonymous, 22 May 2020“ Underwear and socks aren't necessary, but might be apprec... moreAre you reading the Top or bottom of the text and pretend to be reading whole ?
You ignore everything and crawl on a statement simply meant to put an emphasis of idea uttered earlier.
If that's your idea of summary , then I can sum your whole single point as
"I don't have to listen to anybody. What I said is only right way and everyone who disagrees, is major greenhouse emitter. They don't care about ecology. I care about ecology. And I don't want chargers included, cause I buy a lot of phones and throw excess chargers out of a window."
See how bad that thing is. Yet, that's what are you posting again and again.
You don't want to have even chargers included . I got it. But other people want to have at least chargers to be included, cause anything which didn't got infinite battery, will need to replenish its own energy storage at some point of spacetime continuum. It's essential for a phone to function. It's not a simple addition.
Let the market decide. Let people decide themselves and vote with their own wallet. You will see your experience isn't something a lot of people can relate to and nor is your vision of "right" things. Moving forward, towards the end of cliff isn't a progress.
We got companies no longer preinstalling windows on at least some of their laptop models. Cause many times it's not what they wanted, nor they wanted to pay extra , or the version they got it (many preffer w7 over 10, or 8.1, some even want XP back. people have different tastes). We got them to offer them with linux. We even got companies like purism, offering devices with coreboot and with stupid ME disabled.
You see, people can make difference. Simple advocacy to abolish things for everyone isn't a good way.
You can simply buy from a company, who will not offer charger in box. But then I will buy from a company who puts a charger, (and better if a darn fast charger) in the box. Cause that's the way I prefer, and that's the way you prefer. Let the market decide. Let people decide.
Simply saying that your way is way forward and only way to do it, isn't right. You have prove why and counteract every single statement against it (which you haven't done). Or maybe you move out of your viewbox and see some things far from your usual perspective. Simply try it.
And by the way 2) is not same as 1) plus +$20.
Because
1) Accessoires will come with their own packaging (additional waste of paper or plastic).
2) I will not get $20 discount . More likely I'll pay $20 extra to get something I used to get with the phone.
3)Stores most likely will bundle phone some medium quality generic charger and add markup. Or maybe up their prices on chargers, cause now there's more demand. I might have to pay not $20 or $25-40 or even more to get what I used to have. Get it?
4) Many times something which comes bundled with phone, works better than replacements. Cause is at least tested by manufacturer to work with that certain model. Isn't a big deal right now, but I had to deal with many incompatibilities in the past.
Answer all these 4 (and better if you can answer on what I have pointed earlier) if you really into debate and not into "I say what I say" thing.

Anonymous, 22 May 2020You could simply said-TLDR and saved my time. You didn't re... more“ Underwear and socks aren't necessary, but might be appreciated if they fit in style and colors. A good belt is actually desirable. “
That pretty much sums up your core idea of how things should be sold. lol
Dunno dude, that makes absolutely no sense. I already have belts and I dont need a 10th one. And I dont need those socks which are not 100% cotton.
So in the end, to make you happy, lets say products should be sold in two ways:
1) just the product in the box for, say, $300
2) the product bundled with basic accessories in the box for $320
Where number 2 is the same as buying number 1 + basic accessories worth $20.
Which is basically what I was saying.

Anonymous, 21 May 2020You know, when you buy a phone or any other device that has... moreYou could simply said-TLDR and saved my time. You didn't read and didn't get the point I was making.
what if I buy a display and not buy a cable despite store's offer, cause I have one, then I find out it's too short, or it's an old standard say USB-C 2.0 but not 3.0, or HDMI 1.4 but not 2.0. Or is tailored to specific brand, model and while being pin compatible, it's not desirable at all for new product, like Oneplus chargers and chargjng cables. Then I have to go and buy another one.
Or what if I buy to just be sure and then find out , that I already have one. Or buy a few to have spare cables. Or buy a two (one for spare) and find that I alrady have two , cause I did same last time- bought another one for spare.
What if stores decide to include charger in package and add markup (something to what tobaco retailers did in my country after tobaco controllers raised tariff again in filtered cigarettes,- they take out filter and make them a different product , but still sold as one package. I don't smoke btw, my father does).
You see, your proposals most likely won't reduce e-waste, cause you don't take into account how people and market will react to. You are just adding inconvenience.
As for basic stuff, they a) aren't a basic stuff many times. You can't call gear vr, samsung bundles with preorders a basic stuff. And if you buy flagship or upper midrange, you usually get fast chargers and decent headphones, not basic ones. Many liked Apples bundled 3.5 headphones, I saw many android persons using it. b) they are still useful and appreciated by many.
and C)EVEN MOST BASIC 5W CHARGER IS STILL BETTER THAN NO CHARGER, CAUSE YOU NEED A DARN CHARGER TO CHARGE A DARN PHONE !!!
And as for choice. Choice is here and and it is called : free and competetive market ,being an informed consumer and not being a blind brand loyalist. If we have these three, we are high likely saved.
P.S Underwear and socks aren't necessary, but might be appreciated if they fit in style and colors. A good belt is actually desirable.
P.P.S Unless you respond with numbered list of answers to my points, this is my last response. I'm not a fan of arguing in circles.

Anonymous, 21 May 2020You missed the point , it's not about that I can't buy some... moreYou know, when you buy a phone or any other device that has no accessories included in the box, you will be asked if you want to buy any. It will say so on the box as well, that it doesnt include any accessories. Then it becomes common knowledge that when you buy a device, you get said device and nothing else.
When you buy pants, they shouldnt come with underwear and socks included. Same with cases - I might want to use a different case that provides more grip, or one that is chunky and provides more protection, or one that is the colour I like.
Same with headphones/earbuds - maybe Im comfortable wearing only certain type of earbuds or headphones. Maybe I like the sound of a specific model. Maybe the features of another model suit my needs better. Or maybe I dont care and I can go with the most basic ones.
Either way, I have the option to choose what I get to use and Im not forced to have yet another brick charger or another pair of earbuds and another transparent case that Im going to keep in a drawer until eventually I will throw them in the garbage.
If I want the most basic charger and earbuds, I can het those. If I want better ones, I can get those as well and not be forced to generate more e-waste for nothing.
Its all logical and its the way forward. Let users choose what they want to use and dont bundle products with stuff that will most likely be thrown away. When someone buys a product, ask them if they want this and that or that and help them make the right choice for their needs.

Anonymous, 21 May 2020Chargers, cables, and headphones should be sold separately.... moreYou missed the point , it's not about that I can't buy something, Sure I can. It's about convenience and user experience.
If something is required for a device to function, it shall be included. If I buy monitor and and then in home I find out, that I don't have cable for it and it doesn't come with one, then I have to go back to store and buy it. And if retails aren't close enough to walk, I will drive car and produce additional CO2. Think about ecology and your methods to handle e-waste.
Phones need chargers. It shall be included. If you have that many chargers, you can sell them or give to others, who do not have (had their chargers died).
And it's not like , If I have charger, I'm constrained from getting another. And it's not like that companies make charger on a basis of single user demand. Chargers are made, because there's need of them and demand and your strategy doesn't take that in account.
If something improves user experience, then it's better to included. A case, headphone, etc. A case protects your phone, meaning it will last longer, meaning you will buy less phones in a given amount of time, meaning it reduces e-waste, by decreasing demand for smartphones.
I'm aware that, accessoires aren't free. Nor is the phone , display, tablet or laptop I'm buying. If they come with extra , I'll appreciate, If the come with essential packaging such as charger, cables (for display), then it's just OK. If I get simple brick, I'll be frustrated.
A lot of people buy stuff online , imagine buying a laptop and its charger separately and charger package got lost. You get laptop without charger and will be refunded for charger , but you have to order that darn charger again and wait for it. Without charger you can use laptop for 12 hours (some laptops) at max.
Your ideas don't reduce e-waste at all, they simple cause user inconvenience .
P.S if you care so much about ecology, then simply don't buy a smartphone. You waste a lot of electricity to browse mostly useless stuff on web. Electricity isn't cheap and strictly environment-friendly to make, It involves burning a lot of fuel (gas, petrol, charcoal).

Honestly who even uses bundled earbuds that come with every smartphone? They sound bad and many people either have better third-party ones or already multiple earbuds from older smartphones at home. If you ask me smartphone manufacturers should stop including all the crap like earbuds, wall charger etc. in the box, since most people already have these things and it just adds up to more E-Waste.

Anonymous, 20 May 2020Chargers aren't immortal, nor are the charging cables and d... moreChargers, cables, and headphones should be sold separately. And people would buy a new one when the old one breaks. Thats it and its a very simple and fair concept.
People nowadays carry arround just one charger with them - their laptop charger - and they use that to charge all their devices.
Also, you can buy cables with any type of port, however everything is going to be USB-C/Thunderbolt in the near future, therefore such a move to sell accessories separately makes 100% sense.
Same with headphones.
And definitely no manufacturer should include cases and screen protectors with their devices.
Only buy/use what you need. => less waste, less clutter, less unneeded stuff.
Also, dont for a second think that chargers, headphones, cases, protectors, etc. come free with the package. You still pay for them.
