I am so upset. The S20 Utlra camera is plagued with focus and images that look like a pastel painting instead of a digital picture. It is a HARDWARE issue! It can't be solved by a software update. It have gone to three tech stores and they all said it was a hardware issue. Mine is currently in for repair. There is a new dual pixel chip that Samsung is going to release to fix the issue. They will not refund my money and I am very upset. I wish I would have kept my S9 plus. It took better pictures. I have had Samsung phones from the S3 up.
I am so upset! I feel cheated and ripped OFF!

We pay so much money for this phone. Why they did not fix it before they sell it? Samsung can not make good phones! never can. At the past have big battery problems. Now have camera problems. But we pay them good money for not good job!

Glad i returned mine. I was more frustrated with the picture quality with over saturated photos and overblown skin smoothness. A beast of a phone except for the camera. Iphone is still better with DSLR like quality photos/videos.

Smithravi, 21 May 2020I still don't understand why flagship company like samsung ... moreThey could've, but then they wouldn't have the bragging rights for 100x space zoom.

Still feeling cheated by Samsung. The ultra is a complete failure and disaster. Crappie software, camera one of the worst in the history of Samsung. Space Zoom 100x a complete useless feature (better to have 30x or 50x which is working than the 100x with full of problem), focusing problem, worst night vision among flagships, overheating, the underdog Exynos chipset. Should I continue? I have already lost my faith to Samsung. Will look into Xiaomi for next year.

Owning the device, I would say that different FW have been dealing with different problems. For example, latest FW made rendering foliage better but lost details in low light. I hope this one will take best of different FW’s. I’d say SW plays huge role in todays computational photography.

They already released a dozen of updates to fix the camera problem. They just won't admit that its a hardware problem and software updates won't fix it. How about do an intensive testing before releasing a product?

AnonD-558092, 21 May 2020Because gimmicks sell. The stuff you listed are indeed usel... moreexactly. majority of people dont understand anything tech. they just see the numbers. 108mp mediocre camera: wow, oh my god, holy cow. 12mp best camera: oh crap, meh, just 12 mp?
the copycat state backed Chinese companies are providing cheap stuff for less price. who cares about true quality? the more you can boast, advertise, the better it seems.

I was very upset with my S20 ultra due to several issues but now I am very happy specially with latest update. My biggest issue was heating but now I feel the phone much cooler. I think this is the perfect update. Note that I am using exynos version. Now I can recommend someone to buy it.

Smithravi, 21 May 2020I still don't understand why flagship company like samsung ... moreBecause gimmicks sell. The stuff you listed are indeed useless gimmicks. They could have easily settled for more sensible, if not less, shall we say "factually challenged", options but that's not what the competition does. And you've probably read the comments of people here praising the Chinese offerings you've mentioned for offering specs for cheap. If they can't appear to customers as a premium brand with the best hardware due to simple and meaningless digits, they'll go under. They're basically adapting to the market. It's the sad and cruel dictatorship of the free market: adapt or disappear.

I hope they get all these software issues ironed out before the Note 20 release. Not interested in a buggy Note 20. The S 20 is a failure in my opinion.

AnonD-558092, 21 May 2020Hardware and software are two separate things that must wor... moreI still don't understand why flagship company like samsung follows chinese footsteps (Gimmicks and hype). No matter what software one uses, high MP means software needs lot of time to process and only after knowing what to focus which is been processing, AF can be done seamlessly like in 12MP cameras.
It is really stupid for samsung to use higher MP for a smartphone, given the 100x zoom also captures useless quality (They could have confined the option to 30x or even 10x where a better quality can be captured). One has to think why DSLR/Mirrorless with good AF uses only low MP. In this case, Sony is really sensible.

Looks like with this update, all the issues of Ultra seem to be fixed.
Anything left guys?
Don't complain about Exynos 990, that is a doomed chipset in 2020
Maybe downclocking the gpu might help prevent throttling and use of better cpu scheduling algorithms. Anybody cracked to code over there at xda?
