And SE with $400 and $450 (for 128GB) is rather dancing on a thin line, some people will go for and some will decided against it. It's not like, it will kill all the competition, consider is still few important things short from ideal midranger (like a good battery).

Akira Kurou, 22 May 2020True, you can buy 2 androids at the price of SE but most of... moreLet's say you are getting 1.8 android of same price not 2. Cause , like you said, it has some features which can't be found in that price range (metal frame, IP rating , good software support, stereo speakers). But then again, competitors also win some points with their displays, battery , ultrawide cameras added, 3.5mm jack (still relevant to many people) etc.

Point isn't actually having 2 or say 1.8 androids in same time, is about having that 1.8 androids in a period of time, say 4 years. You buy "Redmi Note" for $200 and Xiaomi will support that note for 2 years, then you buy a successor of that "Note" smartphone for same $200 and get 2 years. You still get 4 years of support for $400 but in a different way.

Android should be ashamed man, it it really that hard to push updates? Just stick to stock Android so you can keep on pushing updates to users like us, Android is pathetic at updates and no one is fixing that issue.

Fool's consolation done by Apple to appease users that had their old iPhones/iPads intentionally slowed down by Apple. The update will only further reduce the limited storage space of older Apple devices (majority were sold with 16GB), and increase battery demands of old Apple devices that have dying, very low battery capacities. The typical Apple user will think, hey, it's a testament to Apple's great customer service all the while not realizing it's no different from the 'slow old iPhones down' strategy to get more users with older devices to buy a new one.
The goal is the same but done differently: to force the user to update to a new Apple device, through increased battery and storage demands.

On the other hand, most budget smartphones don't have IP ratings (in case if you get caught in the rain without an umbrella), 4 years worth of software updates or in this case 7, Stereo speakers (most budget phone only have mono), sturdier metal frame instead of plastic which can be bend easily. It's expensive, but you get what you pay.

Credit where credit is due. While Android loves copying all the detrimental things Apple does -- sealed battery, no expandable memory, notches, no earphone jack, courage -- the one thing that Apple does right will never be copied. If the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 rumours are true, I hope that gets copied too.

As of slowing down. Modern apps need a lot of resources. Modern software needs a DARN amount of RAM and CPU. I have glitches running any modern version of chromium or firefox on 2012 i5 laptop. A darn browser. So purely from technical standpoint , I don't get why people insist that their old phones should be all smooth all time ,when software catches and then outruns their capabilities (Apples long term insistence on low RAM isn't helping there either).

So at least on paper you can buy 2 androids at cost of SE.
