Here the lack of dynamic range in JPEG wouldn't matter because the entire chart is very evenly exposed and there is no strong light source pointing at a camera directly. I'm fairly certain that point-and-shoot compact cameras with large, high resolution sensors and wide enough aperture (e.g. RX100 VA, GR III) will be considerably ahead of smartphones, at least in terms of sheer amount of details being captured.

I have an RX100VII and I use it in manual and the results are excellent. Especially zooming in the differences with mobile phones are still HUGE, without considering you have a viewfinder and a vastly superior af system.
Phones are very good now, but still way behind what a camera can do

GSMArena should add some compact cameras fro... moreIn auto mode, no full frame wide-angle 12 megapixel camera would have a chance regarding stills. In some conditions they might have a better white balance, but otherwise they would be far inferior, unless you want to take a burst shot.
They would expose much, much worse. Furthermore they can not show you a high dynamic range of the scene when you don't edit the photo. When some websites talk about the dynamic range of a large camera, they are never talking about the dynamic range that is visible in the jpgs. It's always related to the maximum dynamic range of an edited(!) raw file with the perfect exposure. It has nearly nothing to do with the dynamic range that is visible in unedited jpgs.

SigmaR, 27 May 2020-large cameras have bad noise reduction algorithms (though ... moreYou are absolutely wrong.
                    1. Large cameras (for example Canon) have very bad color noise reduction algorithms. Furthermore the sensors are less effective, this means they produce more noise when they capture the same amount of light. They also have bad multi frame noise reduction algorithms, Canon's multi shot noise reduction gives you nearly no advantage and you can't shoot in raw anymore. A Canon Aps-c camera + kit lens and 1/2s exposure time gives you more color noise than a Pixel 3a in Night Sight mode with 1/2s exposure time in extreme low light conditions. I have tested it.

                    2. It is likely easier to hold a phone steady because there is likely a torque in less directions due to the small dimensions of a phone. Furthermore a phone weights less, so it's easier for the muscles.

                    3. I have had four Ef-m 15-45mm lenses, at least two of them suffered from extreme field curvature and they all have at least one soft edge at f/3.5. Fuji's new kit lens suffers from field curvature, too. Sony's small kit lens is just terrible at the edges. And ias I said, they often have just f/3.5

                    4. Again you are absolutely wrong. Sqrt(331mm²/69.5mm²) x 1.69 =3.7 , this means that the Xiaomi Note 10 captures as much light per exposure time as a Canon Aps-c camera + f/3.7 lens.
Furthermore when you are interested in how much light per time a phone captures from distant objects, the sensor size is even completely irrelevant. The Xiaomi Note 10 captures as much light per time from distant objects as a full frame 16mm f/4 ultra wide angle camera because 16mm/4 = 4mm , same entrance pupil as Xiaomi's phone

                    5. No, at the same depth of field and field of view even a medium format camera captures the same amount of light per exposure time as a smartphone. Then in low-light conditions the noise will be even worse than on a smartphone because smartphones have more efficient sensors, combine multiple images and have more efficient noise reduction algorithms.

Forget the sensor.... One of the most useful features of this camera is the fully articulated screen, for one person vlogging is very important since with your smartphone, you only have the option of using the way inferior front facing camera and not the fancy rear cameras. The audio options are better with the dedicated audio port and probably the built in mic is more sensible than any regular smartphone. The presence of the hot shoe will expand the range of accessories.

This ZV-1 is more like a tool for budget videography, a smartphone is more for convenience not so much for a tool since you can't use accessories like a led lamp, external mics, audio controllers, etc.

I'm pretty sure that most people don't pixel beep every single photo they encounter

I am waiting if I get a some big discount on Xperia 1 II ... if the deal won't be enough, this is my solution for mobile photography and video capture.
The image quality and sound quality just wipes the floor with Xperia 1 II and it even has all the settings in noob auto mode O.o unlike Xperia.

Nick Tagataka, 27 May 2020Remember, this is dubbed as a content creator camera. Obvio... moreThere are already comparisons where the pixel which is not even the best for video recording does better than RX100 series.
Imagine how badly Samsung will beat these compact cameras in video recording.

-large cameras have bad noise reduction algorithms (though it's an advantage that you can adjust the intensity) and often the sensors are also less effective, furthermore they don't have good algorithms for combining multiple frames

No they don't. Most of them have excellent Jpeg engine and great noise reduction.

-it's apparently easier to hold a phone steady than a large camera, so you can choose a longer exposure time even if the phone doesn't have OIS

wrong. too light is harder to hold still (as is too heavy), and most mirrorless cameras have far superior stabilization than phones

-kit lenses often have bad image quality or suffer from serious focus issues (field curvature, though some phones like the Pixel 3a have similar issues), furthermore they often only have f/3.5

No they don't. Nowadays most kit lenses are very capable lenses. You just need to know what you are doing

-Xiaomi Note 10 main camera captures approximately as much light per exposure time as a Canon Aps-c camera at 15mm f/3.5

no it doesn't, don't go spread false statements. moreover "real" cameras give you the chance to use brighter, sharper, high quality lenses

-at the same depth of field and field of view, several smartphone cameras will give you a much better noise performance in low-light conditions

Nope. As above it happens you need to know what you are doing
