Computational photography wipes the floor with this especially considering auto modes are the norm to be used on both devices.

Anonymous, 27 May 2020Just like some people thinks that there is no much differen... moreExcept in the case for cameras, there will always be a big gap in pure IQ between a smartphone sensor and a digital camera sensor. There will always be a major use case for digital cameras that simply no smartphone could fill in.

In the sense of people not needing everything, it's safe to say that older flagship phones are far good enough at doing things, heck even budget phones nowadays are good enough to do all the major tasks for their smartphone use cases.
If camera is a major concern, but the user doesn't have any idea about photography, then GCAM will always help with that, but certainly the photos look artificially overprocessed and far from the natural look that the camera was seeing.

Anonymous, 26 May 2020Can gsmarena make a comparison to show how easily cameras b... moreSeveral smartphones ARE superior to large cameras in many ways.
-The main advantage of large cameras is that you can adjust the white balance whereas most phones only can adjust the white balance in the low quality manual mode. Only a few phones like the revolutionary Google Nexus 5x can adjust the white balance in their high quality (HDR+) mode. When you don't adjust the white balance, the automatic indoors white balance of the Canon M6 is much worse than the white balance of the Nexus 5x, though Canon improved their white blance massively (white priority mode) when they released the M50 while Google worsened its white balance massively with the Pixel 4/3a.
-another advantage of large cameras is that they can give you a decent image quality without combining multiple images, so you can be sure that the result is authentic and not caused by artifacts
-large cameras often can not show you a high dynamic range of the scene without editing the photo. When you expose manually in high dynamic range scenes, something will be either too dark or too bright. Some cameras can handle these situations with special settings (though the results can look unnatural), though a Canon is definitely not able to compete here
-large cameras usually suffer less from artifacts, for example the Pixel 3/3a suffers extremely from dead pixels (I had three Pixel 3a, always same issue) and the Pixel also distorts your face because it wants to correct perspective distortion based on assumptions, other phones like the iPhone 11 Pro can suffer from artifacts caused by movements and Quad Bayer sensors produce demosaicing artifacts in the remosaic mode. Though large cameras can suffer from dead pixels, too and Fuji's X-Trans sensor has similar issues as Quad Bayer sensors.
-large cameras have bad noise reduction algorithms (though it's an advantage that you can adjust the intensity) and often the sensors are also less effective, furthermore they don't have good algorithms for combining multiple frames
-it's apparently easier to hold a phone steady than a large camera, so you can choose a longer exposure time even if the phone doesn't have OIS
-kit lenses often have bad image quality or suffer from serious focus issues (field curvature, though some phones like the Pixel 3a have similar issues), furthermore they often only have f/3.5
-Xiaomi Note 10 main camera captures approximately as much light per exposure time as a Canon Aps-c camera at 15mm f/3.5
-at the same depth of field and field of view, several smartphone cameras will give you a much better noise performance in low-light conditions
-digital zoom can not compete with a super tele lens

Some People aren't greedy. They don't care about a feature that only can be seen after zooming and trying hard to find the difference

I don't even know how I feel about this. I'm sure this will be a good camera for it's intended audience. It's definitely not cheap!

"The lens is an older 24-70mm used in the RX100 cameras from RX100 III to the RX100 V"
It's not exactly the same lens.

Can gsmarena make a comparison to show how easily cameras beat phones?
There are ppl that still think difference is not that big.
