I wonder why people always has this hyperbolising mindset.
Just because i mentioned todays phone aren't compact enough doesn't mean that's what i meant. It's just silly.
What i mean about compact is at the same size as how most 4" phone used to be, around iPhone SE 2016 to Zenfone 4 (2014). That size, but with new bezelless screens with decent modern specs.

Shanti Dope, 29 May 2020You are basing everything on screen size alone, and not tak... moreI'm not referring the compact criteria based on screen size (i'm not even mentioning it on my comment), but rather on body size (mainy width since phones is already too long ever since screen trends went to 16:9). Take a look at Xperia XZ2 Compact, it has 5 inches, but due to longer ratio and smaller bezel, its body is smaller than the new SE which has 16:9 4,7" screen.

There is 1 simple reason why google cancelled the phone: the pixel 4 is down to around 499$ at where I live right now, while the price keeps dropping - the pixel 4a XL would have started at around 499$ if the 4a would have been 399$.
Bringing 2 Versions of a phone with the same camera, but different design would end up in two pixel phones competing with each other. The Pixel 4 is the pixel 4a XL in some way.
Just for your information, the pixel 4 is the same price as an iPhone SE over here!

Could the author of this piece be less cynical and just report the story? Sounds like Google stole Thier partner or something.
Would be a much better read without the snarky comments throughout the article. If you want to make an opinion piece, write an op-ed.

Except the SOC, the phone has really nothing better than a s10e : The S10e is the most premium compact phone on the market and it's much better on term of display, on term of battery life, on term of camera performances, on term of services,...
The only interest of the iPhone SE it's for people for who the iPhone is the less important device in the Apple eco-system or to replace old iPhone 4.7 without the will to change.

Besides Samsung s10 e nobody can compete with with iPhone SE mk2,
Google realized that, this new phone of them will not compete directly with the future iPhone SE + so they will lunch it before or after the Apple

Of the reportedly disappointing sales of the 3a series, maybe the XL’s were particularly bad. The 4a XL might’ve been on the fence between worth the effort of manufacturing and not, with long term sales of the predecessor pushing it towards the latter.

If the 4a XL was slated to receive 2 rear cameras, then why not the 4a? Makes no sense. The 3a and 3a XL each had one

iPhone SE 2 is very compact for the use case of today's standards, yet it's still not "compact' according to your necessities? If that's the case, I assume that you're looking for a 3310 body but with iPad Pro hardware device.

That top bezel has enough space to hold the front camera instead of drilling the display hole. Designers has gone crazy to follow trend.

Big phones are everywhere now. Even the likes of Xperia 5 and iPhone 2020 SE is considered as compact now. We needed more powerful compact phones now.
