29 May 2020
Initially, it said that this would only affect Hydrogen OS and phones in China. Now, an Oxygen OS update is rolling out globally to disable the feature.

Manufacturer just turning off features on a whim (even temporarily, what's even the point then) is a new level of anti-consumerism and I sincerely hope EU investigates this bullshit

In all seriousness, it's a nice feature but not a deal breaker.

I have tried best phones every 2-3 months. findx2pro is not comparable. I do make a declaration it is on a another level on not 1 but couple of things.

I can lower end Android phones manufacturers making features available to their devices.

OnePlus lost the customers already after disabling the camera filter. Otherwise, 8 pro was truly one of the flagships and one of the most coveted smartphones in the mobile market.

How stupid is this. To sell people a useless camera and then when a use is found, disable it making it double more useless, but in the same breath regurgitating apple's fake mantra about space being precious with not having a headphone jack, which is a pretty much still a very usefull thing last time I checked. I thought about buying OnePlus, sadly I have missed it's best years and now this is just becoming a get rich or die trying company. Sad!

It's a deal breaker then. I was going to buy this phone just because that unique feature which no other phone has. Bye, bye Oneplus.

                            Don't buy the phone!
                            :-)

Why the hell are they even sending out OTA in India? Sale for Oneplus 8 pro has not yet begun and oneplus 8 doesn't even have an IR camera. Makes no sense. I guess oneplus is starting to make mistakes.

I agree you wouldn't be buying a smartphone as your primary gear for infrared photography. But if you agree to the expression 'the best camera is the one you have with you' then you can see that there are times you are not lugging around a bag with your camera and lenses all the time and you still would like to shoot something interesting.
