02 June 2020
The Mark II is pricey, but promises unique features, many of which are enabled by Sony's years of expertise in making TVs and cameras.

Smithravi, 04 Jun 2020S20 Ultra only supports 10x hybrid optical zoom. Not optica... moreOne reason why Sony went from 19MP to 12MP. But what's good there is that the physical sensor is larger, even so in the 1 II, meaning larger individual pixels to work with and in return, much better lowlight performance than an equivalent pixel-binning 48MP sensor.

It should also be noted that because smartphone sensors are inherently small, pixel binning will not add much to the overall image, even with all the AI trickery present.

Anonymous, 04 Jun 2020Sony sucks compared to Find X2 pro in video at night. Aut... moreWe have a pixel peeper here.

Please educate yourself first and stop bringing up "camera noise" to a smartphone discussion. Read @Smithravi's comment.

You will NEVER get a noiseless, near-perfect photo from ANY current smartphone, even if it costs thousands, no matter how advanced those AI nannies they put in there. It will never happen. Why, you may ask? It's because of the very obvious reason that everyone already understands: tiny smartphone image sensors. A DSLR from 2010 will obliterate your 2020 Find X2 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro, P40 Pro, even this Xperia 1 II, in one snap. Quad bayers and PDAF autofocus will not help in any way. Even the legendary Nokia 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 with their 40+MP sensors are still no match. You think the 108MP S20 Ultra or Mi Note 10 are better? Keep dreaming, all of them will still have noise.

You want noiseless, perfect photos? Buy a DSLR, then strap it on the back of your phone. End of discussion.

Just because you can see night like day with floodlights on, doesn't mean they are great. When you post process the images of Xperia 1 II, they will have more details than any other smartphone including find X2.

Sony also doesn't use quad bayer tech. Sony uses 12MP without quad bayer/pixel binning whatever they call it. Also how are you calling a tech better?? All those 48MP, 64MP, 108MP uses same tech. The difference you see is due to their own software processing. I'm still pretty sure pixel (12MP) takes better than any chinese smartphone. While Sony (12MP) captures better details and colours.

Higher MP is good only in daylights. Also they will have poor AF. Reason why you don't find in DSLR/ mirrorless cameras.

Autofocus issues, more noise and grainy footage.
Besides find X2 pro Quad Bayer Ultrawide also better than regular Bayer Ultrawide on S20/Xperia 1 II.

Stop Generalizing all higher megapixel phones.

Nick.B, 03 Jun 2020Oh and S20 Ultra has only 4x optical where find x2 pro has ... moreS20 Ultra only supports 10x hybrid optical zoom. Not optical zoom. Also the other two S20 and S20 Plus supports 3X hybrid optical zoom. You can get real optical zoom on Xperia 1 II which is almost 3X pure optical zoom.

PS: All these higher megapixels cameras suffer from AF and noise. They take good pictures but only in good light. In low lights they have bad noise. Reason why Apple and Sony still sticks to 12MP

Oh and S20 Ultra has only 4x optical where find x2 pro has real 5x optical and it is better at 10x as well. It is just for me best phone by now in 2020. And I got it. It is hands down amazing experience and I been through a lot of phones. And have access to all latest phones in stores as well and I know them.

                    Can't wait for that

Nick.B, 03 Jun 2020"90hz motion blur reduction" is a gimmickI have a feeling Sony wanted to implement 4K at a higher refresh rate for the Mark II family, but somehow, I think Qualcomm really only treats the HRR for QHD+ at max on Snapdragon 865 and only capped 4K at 60Hz, where 4K support has been around since Snapdragon 810, which's 5 years back. I think Qualcomm should have upgrade 4K to 90Hz in SD865 in the first place, regardless only one client has 4K screens for 5 years, which's Sony. Especially SD865 is much powerful than SD810. Hopefully, Qualcomm upgrades 4K screen to 90/120Hz next year with SD875, especially Cortex X1 now inbound. Because of that, Sony had no choice but to incorporate 90Hz Motion Blur Reduction from their Bravia lineup on 1 II to make-up the cause for now, where MBR itself, had its pros & cons in Bravia itself.

And 4K-screen on their halo flagship should keep regardless of what people think, like what the review comments told. It's already one of Sony's signature features in their smartphones and has been stay for 5 gens. Downgrading to QHD+ is pure sacrilegious. Sacrilegious did by Sony in XZ2/XZ3 is enough...

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Exactly marketing gimmick that Sony brand boys are falling ... moreWell, you should have asked Sony back in 2016-2018 to enable their 120Hz HRR from their kernel on their X series except for X Compact and MTK-series XA family, even 144Hz HRR for their XZ2 Premium, not now. The same thing in the past repeated... What's next?

Like you can utilize all those 120 Hz SFR when all you do is consume YouTube or Netflix videos that ONLY tops-out at 60 FPS. And for what? Mesmerizing PUBG or Minecraft gameplay experience? Total waste of a good display and battery life.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Exactly marketing gimmick that Sony brand boys are falling ... moreI had oneplus7pro for 1 month last year. It blown my head. But sold it (camera setup was not enough for me). And it was only 90hz. Now with 3K, 120Hz, Ultravision engine for smoothing out videos to make them as they were even higher fps originally, and other stuff, I cannot believe going back to anything else. Huawei must really work hard on mate40pro and next year p50pro. They need a lot to catch up with other chinese brands like my brilliant find x2 pro for example (not the only good example of brilliant screens and setups as phone specs overall)

I've seen the differences and usually, HRR is buttery smoother than normal 60hz. Less lag, less or no gaps everytime you move your cursor quickly. It just pleases my gaming abused eyes so much.

As mentioned from my past comment, I hope Sony combines Motion Blur Reduction and 90hz like what Asus did with one of their TUF Gaming Monitors through ELMB Sync.

HRR in itself are a gimmick just to bring some new "high numbers" to the marketing table just like 108mp cameras and what not. Sure you get a more smooth experience but seeing as android and iOS are already smooth as it is, it doesnt bring anything to the table. And I can porbably bet you that 95% or more of the world population wouldnt give 2 sh*ts about HRR its only the mobile nerds that care, now THATS a gimmick.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Exactly marketing gimmick that Sony brand boys are falling ... moreBut it's the gimmicks that innovate the smartphone scene. IP6X on phones was a gimmick until Sony implemented it and ever since then, we have the confidence to use phones on our pools, hot jacuzzis and the beach.

Motion Blur Reduction is already done in PC monitors. The feature there is called Extreme Low Motion Blur or ELMB. Asus developed ELMB Sync to combine and make ELMB and FreeSync/G-Sync work together so not only it outputs 144hz but it also reduces so much Motion Blur while maintaining >144hz. Imagine Sony putting something like ELMB Sync with 90hz or 120hz displays. I hope they can pull that off in the Xperia 1 III.
