Our Sony Xperia 1 II video review is up

02 June 2020
The Mark II is pricey, but promises unique features, many of which are enabled by Sony's years of expertise in making TVs and cameras.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Exactly marketing gimmick that Sony brand boys are falling ... moreI have neither used high refresh rate phones, nor have I experiences Xperia's motion blur. But one thing I am sure of is I have experienced their tech called MotionFlow in the Bravia TVs. It's absolutely brilliant. Completely ups the video experience quotient. And the TVs don't have high refresh rates. They use the MotionFlow software to eliminate all blur in motion and action images. The feature can be turned off, set to medium or full. And there's stark difference in motion clarity between the three settings. If Sony has this tech in their phones, I am willing to bet it's going to be rather good without needing actual, battery-consuming high refresh rate. Of course, I could be wrong, but based on my experience with their TVs, it's rather brilliant and way more than marketing muck.

Nick.B, 03 Jun 2020"90hz motion blur reduction" is a gimmickExactly marketing gimmick that Sony brand boys are falling for.
Once you use 120hz, you don't go back to 60hz ever unless you want a downgraded user experience.

Tann Hauser, 03 Jun 2020Thats a second time I heard of this good price. Please ... moreIt's a carrier provider, BUT it's only with 1 month contract, which is about 13 euroes then you can cancel the contract - so in general terms its 930 + 13 euroes (but im already a customer at this carrier so I dont count the 13 euroes)

Cant say if your country will get the same deal, but I'd imagine if it's within the EU, the price will be the same.

Essen, 03 Jun 2020Hey GSMa, awaiting the battery endurance score. It's rather... moreBecause Sony wants their users to get a phone with all functions working properly for a flagship phone of 2020, and not mess up like the one with 108MP sensor bells and whistles, but struggles to focus even in broad daylight, let alone low light situations, and needed several updates just to improve from terrible to average performance.

Hey GSMa, awaiting the battery endurance score. It's rather unbecoming of Sony to firstly delay the release of the phones and when they do, claim that it isn't the final firmware. Perhaps, you could do a test with current firmware and update it after the new firmware is released?

Shanti Dope, 03 Jun 2020Not even a single test on the 20fps AF/AE burst, which is o... moreThat true.
Some daylight/lowlight action shots or natural bokeh portraits(not computational ones) to actualy test 20 AF/AE and indirect ToF extra features this phone provides would be nicer.
Also, some insight more than just a mention into DSEE Utimate upscale, 3D Reality audio, Heat Supression control and 90hz motion blur reduction are missing here.

Well there are lots of other revs out there that gave testing to that too, so we have to gather info from more sources unfortunately.

Not even a single test on the 20fps AF/AE burst, which is one of the biggest highlights of this phone.

But nevermind. They only test things out according to what they like, and forget the good stuff that this phone is actually trying to bring.
Literally this phone can capture high-speed moving cars with no motion blur, but I doubt other phones can do it, especially with the longer HDR processing time that takes multiple frames to achieve it.

Oh well, at least this phone allows for USB charging and listening to music with $1000 wired headphones at the same time without the need for an external adapter or annoying dongle that can be misplaced so easily.

Your rushed Xperia 1 II review you mean. There is pin cushion distortion on the main lens in your sample photos and you haven't even mentioned it in the review.

"But we did find it odd that you can’t watch actual 4K video from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime." I think this is an issue with those services. I am not getting 4k on my TV either. Did they not scale back the resolution to not overload the Internet during corona virus teleworking?
