Weekly poll: the three vivo X50 phones take different paths to your heart

07 June 2020
The X50 Pro is all about stabilization, the Pro+ focuses on low-light shooting, the vanilla X50 is happy just being a 5G mid-ranger.

Vivo X50 pro+ ticks most of the boxes of an all round flagship at that price.
Great contender for Budget phone of the year along with V60 and MI 10.

In general, I hope that in the near future it will finally be possible to remove the SIM card tray by fingerprint, so that it extends like a CD drive tray, and not poke the ejector needle especially when traveling and traveling long distances.

Putting the phone in your pocket (especially the back one), where the speaker is pressed against the fabric seam, half the volume is lost, because the sound of the phone in your hand and in your pocket is very different. And if you are in a noisy production?!, The probability of missing an important call increases significantly. So yes, stereo would be cool! I would also like to see the transparent back covers, see the telephone guts, now they look pretty nice, especially with a motorized camera, but this is not even done optionally.

The last picture (5G, 90 Hz) is false advertising. The phone has a chin in reality. Every company wants to be like Apple so bad.

True stereo speakers, the top one could be like on the Vivo V17 Pro, larger in the pop up.
Ambiant light and proximity sensor in the border rather than underdisplay.
All modern standard of sat nav with :
                        A-GPS L1 + L5, Galileo E1 + E5a, Beidou B1 + B2 and Glonass L1.
To not forget the Always On Display.
                        To have all GSM bands.

But I often forget the USB speed because I invented a non induction based, wireless charging method that can work as reverse charging and high speed data transfert, just by placing a phone against another one or on its pad, so I hesitated about talking about it and its advantages and finally I forgot about the "main" transfert way, though with Wi-Fi 6E compatible things we would still get really quick transferts (yeah, I know, lack of compatible equipments) !

X50 should be priced under 3000 yuan, maybe maximum 2800 yuan, 3500 is too much for the specs.

Pro model is expensive for a midrange phone, while pro+ pricing is fine and I like the huge sensor and leather back but it doesn't have gimble like stabilization of pro. Also I believe there is no stereo speakers on any of the phone in the X50 series.

These phones simply asks you to compromise on one thing or the other even if one gets the top model in the X50 series. Looks like a wasted opportunity to me..

A lot of superlative for a phone that hasn't been tested yet by anybody

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2020They're not going to make a phone with these specifications... moreOk then, lets break it down :

Titanium is premium, strong and almost the ideal material, a bit expensive, but for the size of a phone it wouldn't matter much, leather on the other hand degrade with time and glass is fragile.
Titanium can be brushed or polished, giving either a mate metal or a shiny reflective finish being respectively way better than leather/plastic and glass all aspects considered.

Not putting the gimbal, AKA the top camera tech in the Pro+ is stupid...

12MP is and have always been for a while the sweetspot for camera, it is stupid to make any camera under this, the telephoto can use higher resolution to get more room to numerically zoom if you need to.
Ultrawide mean more surface, if you lower its sensor resolution you have way less pixels per objects than what the main sensor would get.
Macro sensors are really desired, the portrait could actually be removed to put a macro at its place as the main camera can do as good of a job as the portrait for most peoples, but just adding a macro, or even better a telemacro would be appreciated by many peoples.

Depth sensor and powerful AI and camera software is not a personal taste, Depth sensor give additional informations to enhance the picture, this include avoiding the blurry hairs, and if you have a good software, allow you to have a picture you can change focus once it is taken.

5G is useless for now, the VAST majority of peoples won't be anywhere near a 5G antenna until they change their phone in 2 or 3 years, and for MANY reasons Wi-Fi 6E is a must have feature as it offer possibilities that were not possible before thanks to its high bandwidth and low latency.

No one want punch hole or notch, everyone either want bezel or fulldisplay (those two monstrous horror of hole and notch are just a fail attempt to get to fulldisplay), pop up camera allow to get fulldisplay with minimal (no) drawbacks AND it is the only option currently available on Smartphones that allow for privacy except for no front cam + second display on the back, and 3D Facial Recognition should be a mandatory biometric security on all phones rather than the insecure 2D camera based one that can't work in darkness unlike 3D facial recognition, adding UV make it basically impossible to bruteforce as even twins don't have the same UV details/spots on the skin.

Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that read in 3D are far more secure than optical, IR and capacitive, like immensely more, having a larger area and multiple finger reading is an evolution, who wouldn't prefer a larger (more convenient to use) and more secure fingerprint scanner ?

Having a dedicated chip allow for privacy and data protection as all the biometrics are unavailable for the OS who only send request to said chip, chip who obviously would have all the required instructions and AI to handle properly the biometrics, meaning it is faster and more precise than without it, and making it preventing the phone to be formated/reset mean said phone have no value for thief, and who wouldn't want his phone to not be worth it for thief ? As all security currently available only protect your data, none protect your phone itself.

There are only drawbacks about curved edge display and body, also the majority of peoples don't like those curved things.

Phone nowaday are stupid thin, many things are lost/impossible because of that, they are, on top of that, more fragile and more expensive (density is costly) while we could have :
Better battery capacity, better cooling, less expensive phone without the camera hump/bump that no one like and prevent the phone to stay stable on a flat surface.
And I never saw a single justified and or proper argument as why anyone would prefer a sub 10mm phone other than aesthetic (meaningless when we see the cost of it) or imaginary, borderline placebo impression that it would take too much space or things like this.

Why would anyone want a phone without dual sim + independent SD card slot ?

Removal of the Jack is stupid and this is not because some peoples like the inferior quality of bluetooth that this justify removing one of the connector standard with the most available compatible things to it.
Magnetic connector make much more sense than physical ports or than no ports at all, they have all the pros of both and none of their cons, the only negative side is the necessity of an adapter, which by itself can be a positive things as you now have a phone that can be plugged through various adapter to most format for the norm, meaning your phone would be compatible to USB type A, B, mini A, mini B, micro A, micro B and type C.
Same for the various jack sizes.

And wireless charging is a must have, not only for the practical aspect, but also because you can find yourself in places or conditions where you have a wireless charging pad and no other options, as in public a charger could be damaged by idiots or stolen, and most peoples don't travel with your charger.

So, is it MY personal choices ? Or have I simply choose the phone with the best and most logical specs ?
Why on Earth (except for the price) would anyone NOT want a phone with such specs ?
Those should be the industry standard because of the reasons I gave for each one, except maybe the Titanium back as there are cheaper options for those who want to.

Also, that's because of stupid comments like yours that the industry have a CRITICAL LACK of diversity, here the subject is about different versions that match different user profile/requirements, so this is the most logical post to list what I want or don't, and the most stupid post to choose to write what you did.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2020They're not going to make a phone with these specifications... moreBelieve me, they would satisfy far from one person, but thousands or hundreds of thousands. Well, plus to everything, he forgot to indicate about the data transfer speed via USB-C, VIVO will certainly do the same morally obsolete USB 2.0 which is already 20 years old.

                                    Where is the poll?
