Maybe the smartphone makers doesnt understandh that we need optical zoom.
I would prefer 5x optical zoom rather than 120 digital zoom

Xiaomi should have been gone for min. 1200X zoom.
This would have been proved to be much better for marketing.

Websites like gsmarena need to stop using the marketing terms that smartphone manufacturers use.
For example every smartphone 2x camera isn't a 2x optical zoom camera. A 2.0x optical zoom setting means that the focal length is twice as large and that the megapixel count is the same. For example Apple's second camera only has a focal length of 6.0mm. That's exactly the reason why smartphone manufacturers need to use smaller sensors for tele cameras. Using a smaller sensor is physically nothing else than a digital crop of a larger sensor. Some people also don't seem to understand that advertising an 8 megapixel 3.0x optical zoom setting is nonsense. Optical zoom means that the megapixel count isn't reduced. Otherwise a 2.0x digital zoom setting could be called a 3 megapixel 2.0x optical zoom setting.
Furthermore smartphone cameras use tele prime lenses, they don't use tele zoom lenses.
Gsmarena also needs to stop using the terms 1/2.55" type sensor, 1/1.33" type sensor. That's so misleading, use mm² instead. Many people don't realize that 1/2.55" type, 1/1.33" type is NOT the real size of the sensor. It's just a name for a certain size due to historic reasons. The diagonal of a 1/2" type sensor is NOT exactly twice as large as the diagonal of a 1/4" type sensor. It's rather 1.8x times as large. The diagonal of a 1/2.3" type sensor is NOT 2.3/2 = 15% larger than a 1/2" type sensor, in most cases it's rather approximately 3-4%. So don't ignore the word "type". 1/1.33" type doesn't mean 1/1.33"

120x zoom is purely marketing gimmick. Same as Samsung's 100x. The ending image will be unusable and an absolute mess. Stick to shorter zooms and work on perfecting those before charging consumers extra for something they won't want to/can't use.

120x digital zoom means resolution drops by 14400.
12x digital will already makes photo VGA, imagine 120.
