Oppo to introduce SuperVOOC 3.0 with 80W fast-charging in 2021

11 June 2020
This would be an improvement over the SuperVOOC 2.0 that currently reaches 65W.

It's nice that they are improving the charging speed without increasing a risk of having exploding batteries, but it would be nicer if they add a deliberate "slow" charging feature that would learn users' phone usage and decrease the charging speed overnight so that the battery longevity can be maximised, just like the one on recent Sony phones. Oh, and charging mode that doesn't actually charge battery - Sony has done a great job implementing those features, and I'd like to see more and more popular phone manufactures implementing similar features to those or better versions of them.

Smart move by Oppo for using dual batteries. Easier and safer to replace, too.

Anonymous, 11 Jun 2020Xiaomi phones lasting for over a year ? Good luck with that.I still use Redmi Note 4/Redmi Note 5 Pro/Redmi Note 7 Pro. All with great custom rom support. And they work flawlessly. Battery life superb. You have variety of roms. Still I have regret over the Redmi phones. No 8+256 model yet on Redmi Note series under 300$. It should have been there with 7 Pro itself. Hybrid sim slot is big disadvantage.

All the Redmi Note 4/5/5 Pro/6 Pro/7 Pro/7/7S/8/9 Pro/9 Pro Max have stellar battery life. Redmi Note 8 Pro due to Mediatek chipset is not so good on battery life. But better on performance. All have great custom rom support. Redmi Note 4 still have great custom rom support along with great battery life and will run flawlessly even after two years for basic WhatsApp and YouTube streaming and browsing. All have great GCam ports too. No need to spend much money on flagships and even on high midrangers. I hope One Plus releases phones from $200-$400 price tags everywhere in the world with one major update and two years of security updates. I hope Nokia allows unlocking bootloader and I hope custom rom development happens for Realme/Asus/Nokia as well in future in a amount compared to Redmi Note series and One Plus phones. No need to change your phone every year and that too flagship ones. Get Redmi series and flash a rom to get best out of it. Because even now One Plus is out of reach for every common man. One Plus has lost software touch too. One Plus 7 Pro and One Plus 7T had lot of bugs at the launch. Even after four months they were not solved. All this will be solved only if Google makes optimized software for their Pixel Line up. There is no need to launch two phones in top tier. Only one XL model is enough and price it between 700-800. Nothing more than that. Because chipset price comes down a lot by the time Pixel launches. Still Google charges ridiculously high for their software support and good camera.

Oppo and Xiaomi phones easily retaining a battery capacity of over 90% after 800 charge cycles.

These batteries are also bigger and easily give more than 1day of usage.
That's roughly 2-3 years with only 10% degradation for most people.

The issue with fast charging is that the wattage itself doesn't mean anything, many other things, from temperature management to volt/amps balance have a way more important impact on the charging speed.

A standard should be introduced that basically say how many amps/hours the charging tech allow in real conditions (so measured from the real phone, with temperature as a real life restraint, not just calculated), it would be way better than how currently we could be fooled with a "40W" charging being slower than a "30W" one.
