the chinese police even have smart googles with face id to identify & tackle threats & "other targets" on the move. this basically disallows terrorists from operating in any fashion. honestly speaking, that's quite efficient.

on the other hand, the rest of the world is complaining despite the huge amount of freedom they have and are spewing a bunch of illegible & illogical lies. snowden/assange wouldn't have had a hair's chance of escaping had they pulled off their stunt in china. the europeans and americans are far too forgiving, frankly, and their people have no idea of the astounding level of freedom their countries give them and idiotically abuse it.

that said, i would definitely not like my photos or my better half's photos to be stealthily captured by a phone cam, unless I explicitly want it to - e.g. a lockscreen phone app that takes a pic of the person on unlock and sends me a mail if its not me or other selected people unlocking the phone. however, the only way you can be absolutely sure of that is to write the a new OS by yourself. can't trust community contribs also - not like every open source contribution is properly peer-reviewed line-by-line by talented people.

          Anyway, what I talk about is basically what have been done on the LG V60 :

          But basically they all got the idea backward, the best would be if the phone side connector didn't had any magnet and the adapter itself have one.
          Most of those cable aren't data compatible but it is only because they also did the thing wrong, rather than making a magnetic compatible cable,they should have made an adapter (like the Linus video), this way all your devices can connect to this adapter who have an universal magnetic connector, and the adapter itself is what make each type of cables compatible to your smartphone, this way it could be made allowing for quick charge, USB PD and data (DATA + charge as a regular cable).

          With a tech like that, phones have basically no issue with dust or water (the connector dots just need to lay flat on the phone, no hump or dent), you can't damage the connector by bending it, there is no wear for the phone with repeated plug and unplug, you have almost unlimited compatibility if done well, one of the USB and one for the Jack would be cheap and allow for practical compatibility with any existing things, it would take no internal spaces as the dots/rings would only lay in the body itself then it will be directly cables rather than a large internal port, it also mean you can both have a thin phone and the connector on the back of the device (or on the size) without having any space issues that the port have.

          If done well, you can even have a phone to phone USB connection (as long as they handle USB OTG) and the only wearing part would be the adapter itself that wouldn't be even expensive, and the adapter itself would be reversible like the USB-C and Lightning, and like the USB-C with the PD, it would be both a charging input and output.

          If this isn't how we plug our devices in the futur, I wouldn't understand...
          Also it would be a great opportunity to get back from 0 and fix through the adapter all the issues and various incompatibilities USB-C have to make a more homogeneous standard.
          Maybe rather than selling us earbuds or other wireless adapters, they could sell bundle of adapters.
          The good thing if done that way, is that even older devices with regular USB-C or Micro USB (and Lightning if Apple isn't stupid about adopting the standard) through a small phone side connector (like in the two last video), will all get an universal connector, even Type A USB would be compatible and could take advantage of this.
          But it require a first brand to make an open standard to begin with.

            I understand, don't worry, I am pro diversity, I am for everyone to have what they like, and I can understand what you mean, this feeling.
            And great if it doesn't bother you, many peoples defend the punch hole when someone talk about alternatives (pop up or bezel) as if their life depended on it, but most of them doesn't even like the punch hole, they only like the fullscreen effect it gave, trust me, punch hole are better than underdisplay camera that many peoples are hyped about.

            Well, the pop up itself bring more concern about water than other non IP rated phones, even though this is rare to drop phone in water, I don't get why someone would stand unprotected under the rain (and use its phone in this condition) and washing phone with water is poorly effective.
            Same with breaking, most peoples think it will wear out in few months/years and never work again or that any little chock will brake it, even outside accidents.

            Privacy is way more serious than that, I usually don't often bring this argument up (many peoples wouldn't understand and just use it to say I am crazy or something in those lines).

            One big risk is hacker taking your informations, selling them, and you being black mailed or being victime of an identity thief (and this thing is serious, seriously it ruined many life and it happen regularly), this is not just about you or what you do.
            Some clever hacker could also hack into your phone and read your credit card numbers you are unknowingly holding in the field of view of your camera...

            One of the biggest risk about leaking data and private life isn't about you being spied by an hacker, it is literally having your government turning into a dictatorship and using every available bit of informations (and what came out of a camera reveal a lot) to track down and silence everyone who are a threat to their plans, it may sound crazy...
            But with the COVID (already without it, it wasn't great), the global economy is going to a rapid decline, we haven't seen the full extend of it yet, many company will shut down or are already under their minimum sustainable revenues, themselves will affect many other things, tourism for example is vital for many companies, and without those companies, other will also follow, then there are suppliers that does get enough orders, and those who have their suppliers running low or shutting down, all that create a snowball effect causing tons of company to shut, the unemployment rate is about to explode because of that (it depend how each government handle that), and many country are at a severe risk of economical failure, the issue is how far each country is able to go just to get more money and to not collapse, then all those who will take advantage of that, but there is also the normalisation of surveillance means, in the USA, drones were used to check peoples were respecting the security distance, just like that a new way of mass surveillance have been brought to the table.

            Another thing to note though, is that neural interface is a technology which already have many working prototypes, reading thought isn't science fiction but serious research and some prototype already allow for that, many years ago the first machine capable of reading dreams and associating images from a databank to them in order to "visualise" them was made in a lab, many VR/AR oriented markets are working on neural interface and we are today able to make someone see images, mind reading tech will rise in a not distant future (probably 3 to 5 years to see the begin of mass production).
            Now, what happen when privacy violation is being normalized and mind reading tech are available ? You get a dystopi !

              If yes, then I'm yet to experience one of those in action, even though I have it right in front of me, on my Galaxy Tab S5e. But the thing is, I don't have any type of magnetic dock/stand, to actually use those magnetic connectors.

I get it, most (in fact, probably all) of your points are totally valid, and that's good, you've been doing a shit ton of research probably. Kudos to you for that.

                  And idek why, but just my preference is having a regular solid phone, with no extra pop-up mechanisms, idk why, hard to explain, but I hope you understand my point of view. So bcoz of that, I'm fine with having a notch/cutout.

                  And yes, what you said about having dead pixels on monitors or TVs, that shit sucks, but it just doesn't feel the same with a phone/tablet, even though a holepunch is probably similar to a 100 dead pixels, but also when I personally, use a a phone with a notch or holepunch, sometimes I'll just randomly find myself appreciating the beauty/sophistication of a perfectly cut hole in the middle of an OLED screen. Don't ask me why.

                  And, I'm even personally not worried about water resistance with a pop-up, cuz as I mentioned earlier, I use a Galaxy A70, which has a water-drop notch, (so obv no pop-up) but still no water-resistance, so that doesn't bug me anyways. And as for failing, I know that I was the one who brought that up, but personally, I'm someone who takes great care of their stuff, so I don't worry about breaking or failing, plus that's an extremely rare scenario.

                    But since many in the industry want to head toward portless devices, magnetic USB and Jack ports would be the two best options to have the advantages of portless devices and still being able to connect physically our phones, even better, the adapter (which, having an adapter, is sort of a negative point), is compensating its negative side by allowing more compatibility, as depending on your adapter, you can plug basically USB-C, Micro USB, Lightning and even USB type A on your phone !
                    There is only a small amount of devices using magnetic connector right now, but I am sure we would all prefer to have this over no ports at all (and I personally prefer it over regular port too).

                      But I also hate having a camera staring at me.

                      Now, as for the facts :
                      The notches and punch holes are in the way of the notification and statut bar, because of them many useful sensors are gone and no real 3D facial recognition, Iris scanner and other biometric is possible as they literally are made to only host the minimum being the camera, quite a shame when we know Apple implemented it to basically put as many sensors as possible on the front of the phone...

                      Privacy is a continuously increasing serious (even dangerous) worrying thing.

                      And all those accusations against the pop up of being fragile against water, wearing down and other have been debunked a while ago, it is just staying as a myth started by skeptical article writers when the pop up did appear, they did spread misconceptions by fear of its fragility, but actually they are all false.

                      The OnePlus 7(t) Pro (and also the Mi 9T Pro for example, but other too) is a proof that a smartphone can be made with a pop up and have way more than enough water resistance to survive accidental fall in water and under rain, and it isn't as if even IP rated phone were perfectly able to survive accidental drop, meaning the fragility of pop up against water is widely exaggerated same as the resistance of IP rated phone against water.

                      Now as for it failing, yes it can, but in reality, lets look at it, just search for any image of a CD/DVD/BluRay reader, look at the mechanism, if you now look at internal pictures of phones with pop up, you'll notice it basically have the same mechanism.
                      Those optical readers can read everydays for decade, and the head movement, that are sudden (more stress) need to be quite frequent in most cases, seriously over numbering how many times a pop up will be used per day, even with someone who often unlock is phone using face unlock and taking many selfies.
                      The PS1 for example, tons of they are still working today and have so many hours of operations.
                      Now spot a huge difference...
                      Most optical readers have a metal screw on a plastic piece, or even plastic on plastic (like for the PS1), while the pop up use metal on metal (probably steel, which is strong but also really slippery, minimizing friction and wear), and the pop up module is probably way heavier than the bulky laser head of optical readers.
                      And it isn't as if the rest of the phone was a perfect monolith that lasted eternally, the display, the chips and te battery all degrade, probably way faster than the pop up which will work fine while those will be dead.
                      Also, it is really hard to find any report of pop up failure, proving that in real life, it is actually really durable.
                      And not only many drop test or even slam test proved that the pop up is actually quite a tough guy, but even the popular JerryRigEverything did a video on that, proving that not only the pop up is not easy to break, but even that this little guy can self repair itself in some conditions.

                      There is also this totally false claim that there is a goal to reduce moving parts, this isn't true, two of the latest innovation on smartphones are periscopic telephoto (the lens physically slide inside to do the optical zoom) and gimbal camera, proving that moving part are totally fine, also, I invite you at looking at what is called "compliant mechanisms".

                      When you combine all those points, both on the paper on in reality, the pop up is actually the best solution.
                      Even the argument of it being slow is false (probably all arguments except it taking more internal space than other solutions are false), the OnePlus 7(t) Pro face unlock faster than the Galaxy S10 5G, the Huawei P30 Pro and almost as fast as the Realme X.
                      And considering that even on the latest and fastest flagship, switching from main to selfie camera take around the same time (software side) than the pop up need to lift, even selfie addicts shouldn't get any negative side effect from the pop up.

                      The uninterrupted fulldisplay + privacy is really what I like about it, and I'd admit that I also of love the gadget effect it have, so for me the choice is obvious !

You're misunderstanding my point. I'm not against the 3.5mm jack. I was just saying that it is almost useless expecting a 3.5mm jack anymore from a new Samsung flagship device.

                        I currently use a Galaxy A70, and I am so thankful for the 3.5mm jack it has. On the other hand, I also use a Galaxy Tab S5e, and that thing is so goddamn thin, that there's no way Samsung could've possibly fit a 3.5mm jack on that tablet. So I have to use a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter all the time (when I'm not using bluetooth earbuds).

                        Nothing wrong with WANTING a 3.5mm jack, but quite unlogical to be EXPECTING one from Samsung. (Considering their current pattern, of gradually removing the 3.5mm jack on all their devices)

                                      But if they make a Note20 with flat display + pop up camera + the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max, and if top if that they are smart enough to not waste the opportunity of a pop up and include at least their Iris scanner, or even better 3D Face recognition + Iris scanner (both work basically the same way anyway), I'd buy that phone for sure !

                                        Keep the price under 1200 bucks and you are good to go. Above that it's insane pricing.
