Here, in the US, no one cares about Huawei except a very small minority of people that follow tech regularly. Most people here do not know Huawei exists. I've written this time and time again. Trump does not speak about Huawei like some people think. He only responds to questions about them if someone derails the conversation to ask him about Huawei. He will not gain any favor with voters over Huawei. Do you see what is going on in America rite now? That moves votes. You think that would happen over a cell phone?
There are no Huawei 5g antennas around. You can't walk into best buy and go to the Huawei section. I have not even seen a Huawei laptop in best buy or target. Plus, they still don't have relationships with cell phone providers. So even with GSM, most people are not buying a $1000+ phone off contract. We don't do that in America (even though I do). Many people here buy phones for their entire family. Who is spending 3-4 grand for phones yearly? That doesn't even include your cell phone service.

US companies will be screwed if Hauwei were develop their own standards, i.e. US chipmakers will need to license from Hauwei to sell their products in China. However, since Hauwei had been excluded from the US market anyway, then there will be no need for Hauwei to license from US companies.
Just imagine Qualcomm, Apple & Intel having to license from Hauwei as they want to sell their products in China.

Trump could gain some good will with voters if he gave them Android with GMS back and allowed them to sell phones trough carriers. :) (tough is anti China voters may be a bid annoyed, tough these people will most likely vote for him anyway?)
