KamAbdi, 18 Jun 2020Do the TSMC uses American tech freely?? The answer is no, ... moreActually that's not correct.
They just probably have licence to use those technologies. Which can be revoked. And it also has some usage requirements attached to it.

Maybe it's time China starts making it's own chips. Put some pressure on the market. How many years would it take?

Huawei is just a bargaining chip in the China-USA trade war and has no actual bearing on "national security". Do you think any businesses actually relish having to lose lucrative contracts through no fault of their own? Read the tea leaves. The Trump administration is as good as gone. Other countries already position themselves for the future, e g. UK sticking with Huawei despite US pressure. Hey, who wants to be stuck with the losing side?

Abhi Dahiya, 18 Jun 2020Are you for real? It's not about out or in the reach of USA... moreDo the TSMC uses American tech freely??
The answer is no, meaning when I buy or rent something from you, it means, I own it. So the US has no power on TSMC. Also the US is trespassing on Taiwan's sovereign because TSMC is a Taiwanese company and not a US company.
Unless a US company or some American businessmen are investors which would be their right but looking the case the US claimed American tech and not that US are investors of TSMC.

The US is a bullying other countries for a war they have against China which doesn't concern other countries.
Taiwan't government must speak and defend themselves.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2020What's stopping Huawei from using Samsung's exynos chips? ... morePeople would be hating on it, and samsung wouldn't risk getting in trouble to support their main competitor.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2020Samsung used to fabricate Apple's SOCs until Apple decided ... moreAre you for real? It's not about out or in the reach of USA. Actually the fab process TSMC and Samsung employ uses some of the tech that belongs to USA and hence Huawei is barred from using that technology. And therefore none of TSMC or Samsung can do it for Huawei.

Also, in no condition Samsung will do it for Huawei. South Korea is firmly in US camp and is an enemy of China. Not happening at all.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2020What's stopping Huawei from using Samsung's exynos chips? ... moreLMAO! China is a big enemy of South Korea and S Korea is completely in USA club. To even think that Samsung or the S Korean govt will allow any such deal to happen is a joke in itself.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2020What's stopping Huawei from using Samsung's exynos chips? ... moreSamsung used to fabricate Apple's SOCs until Apple decided to go with TSMC. There's no reason why they can't fabricate Huawei's chips but what Huawei really needs is a local plant that is out of reach of the US. It should only be a matter of time until they get it.

What's stopping Huawei from using Samsung's exynos chips?

Well, if they do, the US will probably start bullying Samsung. What other countries do with each other should be none of the US' business.
