Flashback: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini, the smallest Android with the biggest heart

21 June 2020
One of the tiniest Android phones ever built nevertheless had big ambitions. And a version with a hardware QWERTY keyboard.

My first ever android device. Then went on learning about flashing, tweaking custom rom for this phone. One day I use it to took a pic of a monkey then the monkey grabbed it then slammed it on the cement floor. LMAO My phone started to turning off randomly after that. RIP

i love this phone. I love it's design and compact. I have moved to other mobile due to technology, memory and upgrades. But I still have this phone working good and using as secondary. It's awesome phone. I don't know how to upgrade it's hardware like RAM and processor. Let me know any ways for it. I love to use it.

2010 was the era of iPhone, and Blackberry was still relevant but on the decline. Nokia was still screwing around with Symbian, releasing the Nokia N8 in the same year.

Back then the Android world was still messy and quite frankly garbage. It wasn't until the following year in 2011 when Samsung released the critically acclaimed Galaxy S2... the phone which propelled Samsung to be the Android phone giant you see today.

Samsung also has its own problems, since then it has hits and misses: the software is much better now than the atrocious Touchwiz, although bloat still exists and I don't like how Samsung had collaborated with Microsoft (Office and Onedrive). Samsung has also made some baffling decisions: Exynos and Bixby, which are inferior products compared to Snapdragon and Google Assistant.

There was also the infamous exploding Galaxy Note 7.

I still own my X10 mini and X10 mini Pro.

My X10 mini is still going strong and I still use it as an mp3 player to save the battery on my main mobile (S10e) .

It is small enough to hardly notice it in my pocket and the battery still lasts long enough for a couple of continuous days playing music.

I will be gutted when the battery eventually dies tbh.

I have hated the way mobiles have grown through the years and a so called mini phone nowadays has a screen size of around 5".

        Bigger isn't always better imo.

The Xperia X10 Mini Pro, what an amazing device.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I had the Xperia mini in white. It was slightly bigger with a bigger screen and faster processor.

I am so in for phones with small displays with some level of aesthetics not only cause it fits in your hands more rigid but also you'll land up dropping your phone much lesser. but I guess all phones look the same and comes with 6 + inches of display :( really sad that these days manufactures barely make phones within 5.5 inch range phones.. was waiting for Pixel 4a but i guess thats getting delayed aswell ..

Never liked small phones, so I never paid any attention to them. I have used one of these minis when they were still quite new - it was just harder to use than a bigger phone. Same goes for an iPhone SE, it was just awful to use due to the small screen.

Had this phone for quite a long time. It was quite hardy, battery lasted long, I guess as the screen was smaller. Love to buy it if Sony relaunched this

The xperia mini pro was decent but as time went on the lack of storage crippled it.. 400mb just doesnt cut it

Wasn't it cool when phones were this small? I'd buy a modern version of this in a heartbeat!

I had the Walkman version...worst phone ever. There was a bug when you activated Bluetooth, the phone would go into a boot loop, making the phone unusable. No update to fix it, I could not even give it to my friend, and had to throw it in the trash bin. Since then i have never bought another Sony phone.
But the super compact size was great...

Heisenberg, 21 Jun 2020Nobody is asking to make only compact flagships. Compact mi... moreI've never seen any compact midrangers these days. "Compact" (not really, it's around 70mm wide) phones are flagship exclusive these days e.g. iPhone 12 Pro, Galaxy S20, Xperia 5, etc. Otherwise, they went either phablet with gigantic screen (>74mm width) or petite feature phone.

Love the Community, 21 Jun 2020"the market for petite phones has shrunk to a vocal minorit... moreNo. They just flick off to those people who needed smaller phones because it's easier to advertise a phone with big screen. I mean, come on, all phones looked exactly same these days thanks to bezelless giganteous screen and glass body trends. No one even Sony would make an acceptably small, compact phone, even iPhone SE got bigger now. I wish somebody make an iPhone 5-sized flagship phone with at least 1/1.7" main camera, Full HD bezelless screen, flagship grade SoC, and maybe 10-12mm thickness for at least 2500mAh battery.

Used to have the X10 Mini it was good but hard to type on with my big thumbs. Camera was decent but mine kept rebooting on me even in my pocket

It was good back then, even entry level and mid rangers were from Sony, Nokia, Samsung and LG.

I have the pro version but it snapped into half, so sad. I do have the intent to repair it so I can use it to run GBA on it and play it using the keyboard but is it still possible to look for the parts in 2020? Honestly, I doubt it...
