The screen's brightness was tested on video over week before the official unveiling of the XL-sized phone.

The high-end Honor Note series where great. Now they make big mid-rage phones with LCD screen and Mediatek soc ugh.

Based on GSMArena's review, the Mate 10 has superb colour accuracy on Normal but not on Vivid. I used vivid because normal just felt so muted. Contrast is decent. If you're fine with Mate 10, I have no problems with that. There are other things I like and dislike about Mate 10. I was using Redmi Note 4X prior to Huawei Mate 10 so I compared them. Mate 10's whites seem blowned off and everything looked ever so slightly fuzzy. No one seemed to point out the issue of RGBW of Mate 10 but it seems even some people who upgraded from Mate 9 to Mate 10 felt dissatisfied. My dad uses HTC U11 and I can tell it looks sharper than FHD panel.

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2020It does not affect quality. XZ 2 Premium has WRGB LCD, ... moreXZ2 Premium uses a 4K panel, of course it'll look sharper than any phone. However, sharpness doesn't fully determine picture quality, there are other criterias such as brightness, contrast, colour accuracy, color gamut, etc. Now that you mentioned that it's RGBW (which I didn't know), it's not really 3840*2160.

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2020whats wrong with a panel like this one? Sunlight legibility... moreIPS RGB panels nowadays have decent sunlight legibility although not as good as AMOLED. iPhones with IPS still look good on sunlight, there's no need for white subpixel. Also, most people definitely spend their time indoors than outdoors so sunlight legibility isn't such a big thing.

RGBW has its compromises which are colours are muted and actual sharpness is lower than advertised due to white subpixels being counted. Even though OLEDs have lower sharpness, its advantages compensate for that. There's a debacle about LG's cheap 4K TVs using RGBW so I'm not the only one noticing this issue. I've personally used a phone with RGBW, Huawei Mate 10 and I was upset that it looked worse than even a normal FHD RGB IPS panel despite being QHD. A lot of people don't care about this but I do. It is probably the cheapest IPS you can get. Some Honor / Huawei phones actually have slightly better IPS panels than the usual as it uses LTPS, this isn't one of them.

This piece of disappointing information alone made me NOT want it. Why can't they just use a normal IPS RGB panel instead?
