I've seen people trashtalking here and spitting curses far more often, and I don't see any of them get deleted at all.
Selective freedom, huh??

Shanti Dope, 25 Jun 2020Anyway, why is my comment deleted here? I certainly didn't... morecoz you've hurt the feelings of iphone lovers... they still can think they can watch 4k, real 4K on their beloved FHD screens :D

For me, as an XZP owner, i remember i had before 4K HDR in youtube... but now HDR videos capped at 1080p and normal 4K is available only.

Shanti Dope, 25 Jun 2020Anyway, why is my comment deleted here? I certainly didn't... moreCould it be because of constant flaming of sony PR b$? It's a mystery to me.

Anyway, why is my comment deleted here?
I certainly didn't break any rule here at all, it was purely a raw comment about the things without promoting hate or insult to anyone.
Damn, never thought this comment section is really that sensitive to common descriptive words that they don't agree with.
        What a really fair treatment.

BestPhoneGuy, 25 Jun 2020He said 3/4 of the people. You are probably within the 1/4 ... moreThen the problem lies within the consumers themselves and not the devices.
I read somewhere before, that a normal human vision can detect pixels for even as high as more than 500ppi, which is around the ballpark for 1440p screens.

With smartphone screens getting bigger and bigger each year, the higher resolution display gets more meaningful.
Besides, you shouldn't be looking at the pixelation of the display to appreciate the resolution, because even 1440p already can do that. The real way to look at 4K screens is to look at the whole picture on the whole display and see the quality speak for itself. Maybe it's all software, but Sony's Bravia Image Enhancement algorithms simply do a wonderful job at upscaling low resolution contents to near 4K, but you wouldn't know that unless you use it. Sadly for most people, they have likely not used them at all, and yet they speak out a lot of things that they haven't even attempted to try once.
Just take a look at the difference: https://youtu.be/aiVWHwENkJw skip to 7:50 to see what I'm talking about.

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2020Samsung has HDR displays since galaxy s9 also there are Sam... moreSmartphone screens aren't true HDR panels. No one is.
All of them are still 8-bit panels, completed by 2-bit software smoothing to achieve that 10-bit HDR look, which does work out for the most part, but still differentiable from true 10-bit displays.
In terms of who does this best, arguably it would be Sony at the top, and definitely they can do so, as even their Bravia TVs are remarkably some of the best in the industry in terms of pure picture quality. Heck, many people even praise Sony's Bravia OLED TV for its image quality more than LG's own flagship TVs despite the Bravia OLED panel being sourced by LG themselves. And the best part is, it's not even Sony's ultimate flagship TV yet - it's the Z9D series which can go as bright as up to 10,000 nits if necessary.
Anyway, that was just a background as a proof on how good they are when it comes to displays. They've essentially pioneered OLED screens after all.

RejZoR, 24 Jun 2020Gotta love ppl who demand 4K on tiny devices where I bet 3/... moreAgain, you're plainly talking about pixel density and not the overall picture quality of the WHOLE image on the WHOLE screen.
Well how could you know? You most likely have never even attempted to see one in personal anyway.
You know, many people also have said everything you've said when they were just used to 1440p screens at max, but after trying 4K screen smartphones in person, they all have changed their opinions, like completely and absolutely different from what they've said.
My suggestion is you try out first before speaking out on something you most likely have never even had any experience about.
Either way, this is $1000 flagship phone that we're talking about, so a 1080p or less than 1440p is inexcusable, as some phones below $800 even have 1440p screens already.

Fearghast, 24 Jun 2020Tell us more jokes how Sony Xperia 1 display is the one and... moreYeah sure, enjoy that 1000 nits brightness for 6 months right before your blue pixels die out and turn into yellowish screen, along with burn in marks that could never be removed and must be replaced by a new panel.

Oh, you're rich, right? You can afford to replace your screen every 6 months for $300? Sure go ahead.
I just don't think anyone should be doing that for a $1000 flagship phone.

Let's say you record the same scene twice.
                  Video 1 is 1080p, while video 2 is 4K.

Both to be played on same 1080p screen. The 4K one will still look sharper.

Only Sony can legit use that 4K resolution.

don't fool yourselves , there is NO use of watching 4k on a non-4k screen
                          don't be hilarious.

You can say we have two sides on the same coin here - really low res and wasted high res.
