TheGoldenMellifluous, 24 Jun 2020iPhones with the screen resolution range floating around HD... moreThere is a way to unlock 4K60 HDR on any capable Android smartphone which is via YouTube Vanced. Click your profile icon > Settings > Vanced Settings > Video Settings > Check Resolution Checks which overrides the maximum resolution of your device screen. I've tested on Mi 9T and the playback was smooth. Not only that, HDR capable phones that aren't detected by the app can be forced to play HDR (software HDR). YouTube should have given us this option considering PC can.

prasad-gsma, 24 Jun 2020Did they drop 2160p support? Because I distinctly remember ... moreAs far as I know, Z5 Premium didn't support 4K video playback on YouTube officially, especially during Lollipop. I never known if it was enabled in Marshmallow & Nougat or not. It was due to the limitation it had during that time.
However, for XZ Premium, it did support 4K video playback on YouTube officially and I confirmed this as I'm currently own an XZ Premium. But for 4K HDR video playback, it only supports 4K HDR video playback for an amount of short time in 2017 when HDR-phone is rising in numbers before it was dropped in the next update and capped at 1080p HDR until now. Same situation for XZ2 Premium, 1, and 1 Mark II.

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2020Samsung has HDR displays since galaxy s9 also there are Sam... moreAhh, thx for the heads up and additional information you gave there. Yes, I do aware those devices supported HDR displays and HDR video playback from the get-go.
But my primary concern here is why 4K HDR video playback is enabled in Youtube in iPhones with FHD+ (HDR) display running iOS 14 Beta, while Android of any versions can't do the same task despite there are 4 smartphones have the 4K HDR display hardware from the get-go (and all from Sony) :/

iPhones with the screen resolution range floating around HD+ to FHD+ on iOS 14 Beta have the 4K HDR playback video enable on their YouTube app, while Android has "literally" 4 smartphones with 4K HDR display resolution from the get-go (all from Sony), but none of them are enabled for its 4K HDR video playback (capped at 1080p HDR only) on YouTube and even enabled, only short-lived during 2017 and no update to re-enable above 1080p HDR till now?
.
Oh gosh... Honestly, this isn't right and straight embarrassing in my perspective...

Fearghast, 24 Jun 2020Tell us more jokes how Sony Xperia 1 display is the one and... moreOf course, on Lcd you can throw all brightness you want because there is no burn-in.
Sony brought to CES2018 a panel with 10.000 nits.
Something you will never seen on any oled.
LCD keeps same brightness no matter if a white image covers 10 or 100% of screen.
Oled will be brighter as white portion is smaller. Which means an oled phone can do 1200 nits with 1% of screen white, but never do same with 100% screen white.
Ask Qualcomm to make a CPU that can allow 4K and 90/120Hz at same time. Because since 810 (first to support 4K) hasn't provided so far.

[deleted post]Gotta love ppl who demand 4K on tiny devices where I bet 3/4 of people couldn't differentiate between 720p and 4K. I could go as far and say some couldn't even tell 480p from the higher options... Probably only giveaway is lower audio quality which is far more perceivable than image quality.

It's sad that all this time, iPhone users have been suffering poor quality of YouTube videos due to Apple's stubborness. Meanwhile, AV1 is getting tested on Android and PC and should offer better efficiency.

[deleted post]Tell us more jokes how Sony Xperia 1 display is the one and true :D with their 60Hz, dimm screen. Software limitations aside, what iPad Pro is using as a screen is something Samsung Oled in Xperia 1 can't mach in terms of brightness or refresh rate.

Yay ... my iPad Pro would be able to leave the stone age ... what a joke.
Apple TV 2017 - 4K support in 2020 it's unbelievable how many archaic and dumb limitations iOS still forces on their users.
I wonder when we can expect proper resolution scaling, probably in 5 more years.
