To think that it was HTC that started the whole custom ISP chip ball rolling in the first place within the Android world really blows my mind!

Notes are over-priced, over-hyped for what they ultimately deliver, need a fair bit of work first to get decent,reliable performance, only sd'd versions are worth having, eyxnos stink.
The telling point in article is in the last paragraph, pricing always was htc's main problem..

HTC gimped on the battery size a bit, and their SkinnedOS (Sense UI) sucked.
Whilst the Tegra 3 wasn't a good processor, it was competitive against the Exynos in the Samsung S3. However, HTC dominated with the Snapdragon S4 chipset, as it was slightly faster but used notably lower power. The only reason I didn't get the HTC One X Snapdragon, was simply because Samsung already launched the NOTE. Since then, they were the best Android phones of the year.
From 2011 Note 1-Exynos, 2012 Note 2-Exynos, 2013 Note 3-Snapdragon, 2014 Note 4-Exynos, to the 2017 Note 8 (Snapdragon for everyone, Inferior Exynos only for ROMs), and lastly the 2018 Note9-Snapdragon (no ROMs, Exynos sucks). Maybe not so much for the 2015 Note 6, kinda overshadowed by the Samsung S7+, then the 2016 Note 7/FE was a bomb so ZTE Axon 7 won. The 2019 Note10+ pretty much lost to the cheaper/better equipped S10+ Snapdragon. As for 2020, both the S20+/Ultra/Note are going to lose to the Sony Xperia 1 ii Pro, or OnePlus 8 Pro.

I went with the HTC One S over the X back in May 2012 as despite the slightly lower screen resolution of 960x540, it was amoled as well as having the metal body and superior snapdragon S4 whilst retaining the same camera. I loved it and got almost got 4 years out of it but back in April 2016 I drunkenly placed it in the kitchen sink one night before I went to bed lol. And that was the end of that. Got a galaxy s7 2 weeks later.

Oh it was a beauty, both hardware/software and design wise.... It only felt short on battery but overall it is one of the phones I kept for a long time, and Im the kind of person who gets bored with one phone after 3 to 4 months. Camera was too good as well.

Love you hold it again. HTC was amazing company, innovated, and best product. I used HTC phones every year. HTC Desire, Desire HD, Sensation, Sensation XE, Butterfly, One X, M8.

I still own HTC One X+ ... It was one of the best phone back in the day .. great display and not to forget the excellent Haptic feedback ..

I had owned this phone, it was one of the top class gaming phones at that time. However it would easily get overheated.

HTC still has great potential. Many times poor management and poor management decisions can turn a very talented team and a company with great potential, into just another smartphone company. HTC made great camera phones and had some of the best audio on smartphones. It just didn't polish the overall package enough and probably had the worst advertising in any smartphone.
If it planned things a little better, had better naming schemes and concentrated on only 3 models every year, it could return to its former glory and beyond.

I owned one. The only let down were the battery life. And camera produce soft and noisy image. but everything were fast and snappier than competitor.

Ah, the nostalgia is strong with this one. I got it from one of the first batches that arrived in my country, back in April 2012. GSMArena states that the phone was released in May. That is not universally valid. My phone arrived on April 20th (I still have the e-mail from Orange in my inbox, informing me about the delivery).
I had a couple of issues with this phone, within the first 9 months. First, the volume up button stopped working. Then the touch input died on a 2 cm strip towards the top of the display. Good luck deleting any home screen shortcuts anymore, haha. Thankfully, both were covered by warranty.
Now some minor issues. It had a half a dozen dead pixels, most noticeable on black backgrounds. No biggy. The Tegra 3 was an overheating power hog. I remember playing the first Riptide GP game on the One X and A. it would get crazy hot and B. if I had the charger plugged in, I would receive a warning saying that the battery is being drained faster than it could charge.
The third issue was poor software support. As far as I remember, the phone only received one major update, from Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean. I remember HTC blaming NVidia for this. Something along the lines of "NVidia didn't provide us with the source code for the Tegra 3 chip drivers so we can't work on the Kit Kat update". There might be some truth to this, since NVidia never came out with a statement to counter HTC's.
Funny enough, there were quite a few Kit Kat based Cyanogenmod ROMs for the One X, but none of them stable enough for my tastes. Though I usually change my phones every 2 years, I gave up on the One X as a daily driver after less than 18 months. Still kept it as a secondary / backup phone until well into 2016 though, when it finally died completely.
Considering all that history and all those issues I had with it, you'd expect me to hate the One X. Nope. It had personality. I loved it, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. HTC, you will be missed.

Years ago you could just tell if a device was Sony, Samsung, LG, Htc or Motorola by looking at it.
Now you do not know if it is HTC, LG, Oppo, Honor, Samsung, Vivo, Huawei, Motorola, Zte ..

I've strongly considered the Xperia 1 Mark 2 and Asus ROG 3 for the simple reason of bezels. This 'all-display, zero bezels' junk needs to stop.
