tehyadro, 08 Jul 2020Where did you get those prices?
From what i had heard &q... moreSources are online articles from relatively reputed tech sites (as mentioned androidauthority, gizmochina, google is your friend bro)
The $120 price for 865 is for SoC and X55 Modem. The chip alone costs around ~$85, but Qualcomm won't sell it standalone (only with modem). Your prices are probably also considering licensing fees, motherboard, etc (The whole package as you say).
And yes, it is more than possible as the rumors go that 875 will cost 50% more and probably go for $180. Forget any future flagship killers with more expensive larger camera sensors and higher refresh rate displays.
The only redemption at this point would be if 775 brings in 855+ levels of performance (without a horribly gimped GPU) or a new 7xx/8xx series like 790/862 or something. The naming sense left logic with 690 anyway.
Dimensity 820 costs $45. Exynos 980 and Kirin 820 probably cost the same ($40-45)

From what i had heard "Entire Package, the Snapdragon 875 and 5G Modem Included Rumored to Cost $250. Where the entire Snapdragon 865 package reportedly cost manufacturers between $150-$160, the Snapdragon 875 is rumored cost $250"
This explains why Xiaomi,One Plus and other companies have increased prices of their smartphones.

Qualcomm went full monopoly last year and pretty much fked up all android phones this year, and they plan to continue doing so next year too. They 'invented' a 7-series that is just marginally better than 6-series and drastically increased the price of their lone 8-series processor, 865 with an external 5g. The gap between the best 7-series processor 768G and 865 is massive. 768G is equal to a two year old processor (845)! They could afford to make their 7-series top processor closer to their last generation 855, but they chose not to do so. Then dimensity came with their processors and Qualcomm went all Intel on the brands with their better ISP and modems, forcing the companies to use their processors (at least that's what it looks to me and well, they reduced the price of their 765G to better dimensity too.) Even Exynos and Kirin midrange look fabulous compared to Qualcomm 7-series chips!
765G is said to cost ~$40 (reduced from ~$60)
Dimensity 1000L ~$60
And 865G cost a ridiculous ~$120! 3 times the price!!!!
Do you know what 855/855+ costs: Mere ~$55
845 is not available in the market anymore (it was around ~$45-50)
(Sources: gizmochina, androidauthority articles)
Qualcomm could have had a $70 -$80 chipset with 855+ levels of performance, X52 5G modem, a lot of moolah in their pocket and kept people happy too. But they didn't. Now all android smartphones, especially 'flagship-killers' have to suffer the consequence and watch the pathetic iPhone SE sales soar.
