3gs won't get most features of iOS 6.
It's just like a feature pack similar to 7.5 to 7.8 update.just that apple used the name iOS 6 instead of 5.5 or something for 3gs.
However This announcement might affect the sale of wp 7.5 devices in this quarter.

After using Nokia phones for 8 years, i have finally switched to samsung. Why ? because Stephen Elop is the plague that is killing nokia......and unless they get rid of him and find someone who can cure/remedy his so many disastrous decisions, Nokia is going to go down like the Titanic, slowly but surely :(
An iPhone 3GS released in July 2009 will still get the iOS 6 upgrade released later this year; a Nokia Lumia 900 released this spring will be outdated by the autumn.
Elop is a traitor, he was paid to sabotage Nokia.. FIRE HIM!...Every decision he's made so far has been disastrous! - No support for MeeGo, abandoning Symbian in 2016, etc. The worst news of all being that current WP devices wont be updated to WP8!!! Are you kidding me? This is A HORRIBLE IMAGE for both MS and Nokia. Watch as sales of WP7 devices plummet drastically ....
To Windows Phone users: MUahahahahaha Told ya

Intelligent One, 21 Jun 2012Dude we have to meet. You seem to have a Crystal ball. Can ... moreWindows 8 is clearly the right way to go. I've yet to see what jelly bean will bring to the table so I wont comment on google's future but the current ics is not optimised to get the best out of increasingly superior hardware. Compare xolo and one x benchmarks. Single core shouldn't even compare but it actually wins at times. Windows 8 support up to 64 cores. Apple proves that tablets could be popular but windows surface brings laptop functionality to tablets with more features and capabilities. Apple says that they dont plan on bringing laptop features to tablets plus their new os mountain lion and ios 6 are not groundbreaking or game changing. I wont judge apple until I see iphone 5. At the moment microsoft has the best offers. We just have to wait to see what the others bring to the table. For now windows 8 is the future leader but that could change. :-)

[deleted post]Hahahaha... Such a harsh comment when I was being sarcastic. I guess I came across wrong. I was making fun of people who say microsoft fails by not giving older phones the full blown windows 8 when they dont even have the hardware to support it. You seem to share the same disgust I do but tone down the insults. Hahahaha... I will get a windows 8 phone in the future as I enjoy windows 8 on my alienware. I will most definately buy a nokia windows 8 phone.

Apple announces an ios6 upgrade for all yet not all features will be carried over to all models due to hardware requirements of some new features - everyones happy
WP announces upgrade to 7.8 for existing models which is basically WP8 without the features that require upgraded hardware - everyone complains
If you think about it, these are similar scenarios except that MS called it as it is. I think MS shouldve done an Apple and announced WP8 for all even though not all features are included or maybe called it WP8 Lite. Unfortunately, MS isnt as savvy as Apple when it comes to Marketing. I still love my Windows Phone and the 7.8 upgrade is good enough for me.

I will keep on supporting WP as I think its more polished, faster and modern looking OS than Android. IOS is too boring for me.
But I am disappointed that WP8 apps will not work on my Lumia 800. In a couple of months after new OS is launched even if I get WP7.8 update on my phone, the app support will dry up. Also new apps will not be added for my phone. Disappointed.

luvmylumia, 21 Jun 2012I know I should have read the comment you were replying to ... moreSomeone asked me how I would feel if a phone company stopped supporting a phone I just bought. What people fail to understand is that windows phone 8 is more hardware oriented. If you dont have the hardware how will you benefit? Its like downloading blueray software and buying a movie on blueray when you dont even have a blueray player... I'm looking forward for my nokia widows 8 lumia or whatever they call it. I wonder if desktops will get nfc support too? That would be awesome. I gladly await windows 8
