What the consumers are not understanding is: all of mango users will receive an up-date. It will not call Windows 8; but it will have all the main improvements that WIn8 promised to deliver. I am very excited to see this, principally because I am a Lumia user. I guess it is the way that MS communicates it... is not perfect. Sometimes sincerely a lot. Instead of they could say "We have an up-date that enables you to have the main features of windows 8 but some features like a better graphics will available only for next generation" they are saying "Win8 will not available to the current generation". They even explained that up-date will have the main features and all new features, people still not understand.

Well Nokia, when you first made WP phones, I was very happy to see you coming out of the troubles but with Microsoft's decision many users will not buy your Lumias' including Lumia 900, because of this decision and I am also thinking to exchange my Lumia with any other ICS phones. So, Good Luck for your future.

Maybe they should've said current users will get the windows 8 experience with 7.8 plus it comes straight from microsoft so no arguing with phone manufacturers about updates. Atleast nokia is rolling out updates sooner. July

Is it that you can root your phone and not have it supported or are you against the concept of new updated operating systems.
If you want the freedom of creating your own awesome phone go ahead and do it I wish you all the luck in the world.

Now as for these updates I think they are just what is needed for this lumia 800. Its camera is great and about to get a whole lot better. Flip to silence another simple feature which I first saw on the 5800 and thought it was very handy.

Being a Lumia 710 owner from past 6 months Im really happy that Microsoft is offering a Windows phone 8 Skin with some other features along with my Nokia offering host of Symbian kinda features like call record, DATA Track, etc etc...

This combination of Customization+new features makes me very satisfied & happy. More over 18months promised support is a good one considering the fact that even Android does the same ( Look at Galaxy S, S+, Ace etc) They will enjoy GB as the last one (mind u that google is never clear about promised support).

Coming to apps on droid, many apps which are developed for ICS exclusive dont run in Gingerbread. so why to cry when it turns out to windows phone when the reality is hardware of old phones doesn support.

Coming to Apple, who has used IOS5 on Iphone 3G/3Gs and happy with the performance??? Phone really suck, it becomes slowww, & apps take ages to open( refer : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3384214?start=15&tstart=0) Its a apple's strategy to make the baby sleep by singing along with pinching it below...

Microsoft is clear with their plans & so is Nokia who has promised to support wp7 by porting all the missing basic symbian features to wp....

Exactly HOW do you think they would upgrade your phone - by causing it to grow a card slot?

WP7.8 already gives you all the s/w features of wp8.

The only thing Microsoft did wrong was call it "7.8" instead of "Windows Phone 8 Lite" or something.

Yes it is a little disappointing for the current lumia owners but if wp8 is as bigger change deep down as we are lead to believe then people should understand why it can't be ported to these devices. The fact that they have released an update and some upgrades shows that they do not wish to forget about their current customers (like some people keep assuming!) this is basically a 'Tango' update for wp8 - no one moaned at that when it was released and so shouldn't moan about this! At the end of the day this is a rapidly changing market and it is a danger that faces all of us on ALL devices.

Anyways I think that this WP8 is a great platform for developers and users alike and I'm looking forward to seeing what the manufacturers can offer from now on.
