this patent war really has to stop, I am a proud owner of SGS II, but I don't like to not be able to buy more devices, because that is monopoly, and then I would pay more for SGS II...

To put it simply, right now Samsung and Apple are the biggest competitors in the smartphone market, they make most profit and sell most phones. To start with they make over 90% of the profits from all phones.
If they were to merge into one company, competing companies will be easily crushed and they would be able to price phones however they want because people won't have a choice. Also they would not even be bothered to work on "awesome technology" you mention because there would be no competition forcing them to innovate to attract customers so they might as well save money on R&D.
So basically we'd end up with an even more arrogant, money grubbing, lazy, boring and uninnovative company than apple has become.
Unless you are in a high position in this company, it is a horrible idea especially for the consumer, it would drive up prices and drive down innovation.

Happy that samsung win the battle. However don't support the thought that both company should merge to provide a good technological handset. Samsung is growing because other competitor like nokia is going down itself by their own policies. However no one can match overall hardware & software quality which apple provide. Apple belong to different class of quality.

The iPhone was announced and showcased to the world as a fully working phone - January 2007
The F700 was announced - February 2007
The iPhone was released - July 2007
The F700 was released - December 2007
people can say what they like about their preferences for phones but I do wish they would at least check their facts first so whatever they're saying is truthful....

It's possible to have merger of Samsung's mobile phone division with Apple because Samsung has best R&D to create chipset or hardware while Apple concentrates in software development.

increased competition forces the two companies (and other companies who are trying to join this fight for number one handset) to be more innovative than the rest
so watch the phones that will come out within the year, theyll be epic due the benchmark set by the one x and s3

Wow, that could be expensive, as Apple and their fans are very keen on telling everyone, they sold a lot of phones - if every original iphone, iphone 3, 3GS, 4, ipad and ipad 2 is taken into account, Samsung could be asking for a lot of money here.
