That's why I always advise to my friends not to use car charger for mobile phone unless it is very urgent / important else never charge the phone through the car charger.
Thanks.

As a human being and an admirer of technological advancement, this is a very sad news. And it is more sad to see people bashing and making fun out of an event that could merely be an accident.
Samsung Galaxy S3 is an admirable and impressive piece of tech and anybody negating that fact is plain blind. It is arguably the most powerful handheld device out there. And that's why it has become a "news". Any brand does not become a better one just because of a single faulty device was witnessed from the other brand (and that too is still not substantiated), let it be HTC, Apple, Nokia, Sony etc.
People here are taking this news as fun and acting as though they were present there. "Innocent until proven guilty" applies every where. One should be happy about that person that he didn't hurt himself and don't be judgmental until the result of investigations comes out. How many Samsung devices you have used before including smartphones that have exploded or short circuited? The answer of 99.99% people will be "0".
Fact: Thousands of people die annually because of using cell phones while driving. Not because of cellphones exploding. Check the stats. Be safe and keep others safe!

There is so many external factors. Handset may have been damaged physically or had liquid corrosion on the main PCB. I used to work for Nokia Care, we saw this kind of damage all the time. Always was water damaged. Customer will blame anyone but themselves. Funnily enough, you shouldn't be making phone calls whilst standing in the rain.
I'm not defending Samsung, I'm just saying we don't know if this was a manufacturer issue or user issue.

AnonD-9023, 21 Jun 2012Its the same exaggeration created when iPhone exploded. ... morecertainly you do not know what you are talking about.who am i to deny this issue?? am i the product manager of Samsung or what? as i told , i dont even use a smartphone.i am not a fan or a foe of any company which is both absolutely foolish. all i want is to be well informed.if you click on the source you will clearly see that the owner of the device changed his attitude and sayings:"It may actually have been caused by a combination of my car mount and my cars heating system." thats what he said after he took the replacement.tech websites really do like to give sensational news before they know the truth.thats what i wanted to point out.you are obviously biased but as an engineer working for 16 years now I am not! so you better think twice before you mention "logic"!

It must be the car charger. Some usb car chargers from China has no quality. I bought one from DickSmith and it charged only a few minutes and my phone said "Charging stopped due to over voltage" and my battery couldn't be charged properly for a few days after that.

I think its the owners fault why the phone explodes, phone do explode when overheated when too much power is being charge to the phone, over charging or the car charger is thats his using is not compatible with the phone

Explosion/fire is usually caused by environmental factors (Nokia in factory) or a dodgy charger/battery.
I suspect in this case it was the charger.
