Anna, 22 Jul 2020Perfectly nice decision. It's second half of 2020 now.... moreInstead of asking companies to use more RAM, google should better optimise their OS at least to a decent level. If something as advanced as iOS can run smoothly on 2gb of RAM, then why does a mere android still need 8-12gb to run acceptably smooth?

The minimum should be 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM, if you know how to manage the RAM, it should not be a problem

Perfectly nice decision. It's second half of 2020 now. 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB is too poor in 2020. Google should make it mandatory for all brands to have minimum specifications of 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage in order to install full Android OS. It is just not possible to run full Android OS, with future upgrades, smoothly on such low specifications. 6GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB should be next available options. Lower specifications can opt for Android GO edition.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2020Even 4GB Ram is useless.Wait, what? What are you talking about? 4GB is totally fine. RAM management should be better than having more RAM.

YUKI93, 22 Jul 2020I don't even mind if Google wants to prevent phones wi... moreI think the laggy part is probably due to the performance of the storage too. My Note 5 is already showing lag in certain area and i always have access of about 1.3GB RAM to play around with. Thinking of resetting it to run the bare minimum stuff now since the battery life is also starting to act up.

My fone got 6gb of ram, and still stalls and stutters all the time, full android is just to heavy on fones resources, and from what I hear android go doesn't have that many features and tbh who wants to admit they have android go on there fone, and obviously with Google there's no middle ground.

A mobile OS that needs more RAM then a full blown desktop OS. Just the OS... Great optimisation, groogle.

Thank god, my Galaxy S2 from 2011 with 768mb of RAM will still qualify for GO.

Make sense, it is like nowaday 32bits systems aren't really supported anymore by tons of things, back compatibility can only be done to a point where the hardware we try to keep compatible can still handle the software/OS and which can be done without limiting the newer version.
It is like games that require recent CPU, even though some older CPU can have enough power to handle them, or even more than the modern minimum requirement, the instruction set that come with the new CPU make a huge difference, and it would be madness to code and compile a version with and another without newer instructions.

Why don't Google just make all apps the same foot-print as the Go variants? Why even have Go and non-Go OSes? Why all the fragmentation, which the Android world is already suffering from?
Having app foot-prints like the ones found on Android Go is good for everyone, so I'm lost as to why the need for the two OSes in the first place. Just make all of them light-weight and let everyone be happy.

YUKI93, 22 Jul 2020I don't even mind if Google wants to prevent phones wi... moreNote 4 has very weak processor and likely a slower RAM. I have a device with 4GB RAM and it does its job well.

Later soon, most companies will release an 100GB+ RAM phone with 10TB of storages because of Google's limitations.
