25 Feb, 2008
After a week of hard Sony Ericsson previewing here at GSMArena, seems like they are still making the headlines again this week. This time it's all about names...

I think that SE phones are just too cool. I've just purchased one and am digging it...it's the latest in the market.

                      The new W980 really doesnt fit into this system..
                      the graphic says models with a 0 as the last digit are candybar models but it is actually a clamshell

                          ******Correction******* the W980 is not a successor to the W960. Its a sucessor to the W910 (although a clamshell ). The next gen walkman UIQ phone will arive after the mid of this year.

                              @boss:

                              "The G-series, which we previewed last week, is named after the Generation Web platform."

                              It's written black on white there.

                                They are slowly implementing this model naming convention. The reason it's not applied to the W980 is that Sony Ericsson wants people to know that the W980 is a direct sucesssor to the W960, although it's not a direct sucesssor as it does not use UIQ 3.0 but A200 platform instead. It does have 8GB and the sound quality of the phone is pretty good (GSMARENA will review that later for sure).

                                G series stands for Generation Web apparently.

                                  what is wrong with you people can't you read, or understand....first, this is an unofficial naming system it looks real so in future this is probly how se phones will be named and it works with the newly anounced phones which GSM arena have been previewing this last week, but there are sure to be exceptions which are called the extreme SE series and are phones like the P1i, W960....before the newly announced Gseries phones it was only the extreme series phones which had the uiq os which allowed wifi and touch screen......now in the new SE extreme phones are the X1 and W980 and the awaited P5i (which will rock), i feel its good that se are making changes as it was getting really boring i mean almost all the walkman phones were pretty much the same with some differences here and there but all had 2mp cams (i do not mean the W960 its a extreme series phone so does not count here) but i have a feeling that SE might anounce a K series phone once in a while to get some hype stering. Now theres a new series which is like a mix of the classic k series which is now the C series and the extreme series and this is the G series which stands for 'Generation Web platform' as GSMarena have stated this is a great move by sony cause touch screen candybars....nice they really will change the way of life of sing your candy bar and cause of the uiq interface we can have external apps plus wifi but i feel sony could have easily made better Gseries phones than the G900 and G700, it looks like a lazy job to me hopefully they will improve the retail versions.........its good SE are making changes

                                        X series and P series will follow a different line/numbering system as they are considered "the higher end" of the market.

                                        Sony Ericsson may keep the K series phones as K series are just generic bar series phones now (used to be bar phones and cybershot phones). Should that be, it will follow the same numbering system.
