Here's why current WP phones won't get Windows Phone 8

26 June, 2012
WP8 is closer to the desktop Windows 8 RT than it is to the Windows Mobile-related WP7.

if you wait latest upgrade you can wait for eternity and beyond. because after wp 8 , some months later you have WP9 WP10 (i dont know future version numbers). The purpose of smartphone is not "upgrading" but using it . Buy a smartphone with functions you need and if you have such smartphone , keep smiling and enjoy it.

Though I'll admit windows phone 7 was beautifully designed I never really considered it, due to the limitations in place. However a Windows 8 device with a Snapdragon S4 processor, 720p screen, pureview camera and SD card support??? Now that may be worth taking a look at.

Why people here blaming the Nokia lumias?
Tell me a single Sammy or HTC WP 7phone which will get WP8 update. It's a software fault by MS.It's due to the changing of kernel. Also WP7 has few customers. So it doesn't matter. At least Nokia providing some exclusive apps to their lumias, but what did Sammy and HTC did?? Till now, Nothing.

"WP8 enables multi-core support, higher resolution screens, NFC, microSD card support and so on, none of which will make a difference on the legacy hardware"

So essentially, the first windows phones that came out were crappy?

At first I thought it was because of the new software that it was necessary that new hardware be used, Qualcomm needed to modify its CPUs (Snapdragon plus) to work with WP8. But what are they talking about? WP8 won't bring any improvements to legacy hardware? Maybe now coding will be easier, so the marketplace will be full of new great apps that legacy devices won't be able to run? Ever thought of that?

                          I can't accept Microsoft's reasoning...

The only people who will push Windows Phone 8 are the current Windows Phone users. Having isolated them from the platform by leaving them with WP7.8 Who will champion the new OS ?

Does Microsoft expect all the users who purchased a WP7.5 device to automatically drop their (near) new phones in favor of WP8 ?

Nokia sent out several (free) WP7.5 devices to their developers to get them interested in coding for Microsoft's platform. Are all these developers now expected to purchase a new WP8 device to continue making apps for the platform ?

We can understand that WP8 will take advantage of multi-core, HD displays, NFC etc... But we cant accept that WP8 will make current WP hardware obsolete. Unlike Apple which has one device WP is expected to satisfy a wide audience - This will include Nokia's emerging markets. Does Microsoft immediately expect everyone to own multi-core smartphones? No way.. I am sure there will continue to be single core handsets at least in the coming year or so.

I think the more likely reason is that it will take alot of work to flash current phones with WP8 and Microsoft/Nokia are not willing to put themselves through that...

I dont think alot of you even read the article .
Never seen so many crybabys in one place.

Microsoft did the only thing they could have done.

And why are you so fanatic about updates ?
You still gonna get updates ,just dont thngs that your old phone can handle.

I have a SGS2 and its the same there.
People cry in forums and cant wait to get ICS.
                                  And for what ?

                                  GB was better,more stable,better batterylife.

                                  Its the same with ios.
Not all features from new OS work on older phones and Iphone is almost the same hardware since Iphone 1.

Microsoft should had said that all gets WP8.
But NFC and so on dont work on WP7.

Then they wouldnt had this shitstorm.

1 thing that i dont like is that apps for wp8 wont work on wp7x witout extra work.
But even my 3 year old kid understands why.
