Here's why current WP phones won't get Windows Phone 8

26 June, 2012
WP8 is closer to the desktop Windows 8 RT than it is to the Windows Mobile-related WP7.

I do understand that some WP7 owners will feel abadonned in the app-department.
But on the other hand, you should never buy something for what might come, just settle for what is.
Besides, WP7 has most of what you need in the app-departpent, already, so what is the problem?

If people just feel abandonned cause they wont be getting the latest version, well, then its just wrong. At some point you can no longer update to the latest, thats just the way it is. And even the latest WP devices had old hardware inside.

And what are there? 4 million WP users?

WP8 is a great move, that seems much more futureproof.

If you bought a phone and expect it to turn in to something else after a few months, your mindset is wrong. Besides, nowadays you dont get that many new features with new versions of OSes.

I recently tried W8 evaluation version on PC and it wasn't much really, just a revamped W7 but with all the things a PC can do without. I'm sticking to what I know works well W7 on my PC and Android for my phone.

So many people saying Nokia should be angry with ms. What nonsense.

Nokia can only survive if wp8 is leagues ahead of wp7, and that is what ms has delivered.

If they delivered something that was such a minor update it could run on existing hardware, Nokia would be doomed.

By October Nokia will have an outstanding OS to build its phones with, and they can be absolutely thankful ms actually did some good/hard work getting wp8 out.

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2012Are you serious?? All this strategy was failure, and many ... morePeople are too version focused. So what if the old WP's don't get WP8? Enabling quad-core supports in the OS won't make the phone quad-core, nor will it spontaneously develop a NFC chip inside itself.

However current WP owners will receive an overhaul, a new look and new features for their phone's HW. Over stressing the HW in old phones with newer and more demanding SW will always fail. Unless you customise it and strip it clean from everything and don't bother running any apps.

Everybody wants HD SuperAmoled or Retina displays, not nHD Amoled or 480x800 LCD displays. Everybody wants quad core 24nm 1.7GHz latest ARM processors not the two generations ago ARM processors. Everybody wants slim phones, not bricks.
Everybody wants at least 1 GH RAM not 256MB.
              That's Nokia "hardware"!

That's an absolutely awesome point shared by you here. That's what is currently happening out their in the market today. It's a part of mobile manufacturers business strategy. If every manufacturer tries to upgrade their old phones with the latest OS something that is been practiced by apple since ages. Then they will be left out with limited products just like apple. Every new hardware technology that emerges in the market demands a new software upgrades in order to boost it's highest performance level as promised by the OEM's. So I think people should actually understand the technical limitations of your existing hardware before you start building up expectations in your mind. I know you have the point to discuss about the money that you have spent in buying their product. But theirs no other choice left with us but to move on. If you don't support their decision then go and sell your handset and go for an Apple or Samsung.

                Bye !!!

If the manufacturer cannot provide it, custom ROMs can provide it. Sadly windows 8 have different kernel so the old devices can't support it.
