Let me tell you, indian consumers are really ready to spend and shell out atleast even 30k for phones.through analytics what I have found is that most Indian consumers even though (mainly the youngsters) earn less than 20k or 15k per month they have cash in hand to buy 30k phones. Most youngsters and mid age people are willing to shell that amount and phones with great specs with good price will be really successful in India. The market potential is huge.

No one needs an 108 MP camera that sucks at lowlight. Not every consumer even know about night mode, or more importantly, use night mode. Because it takes too long. For night time shot, go with the Huawei's way, just use Auto mode and you will be granted well exposed image/video anytime. While others need night mode. S20 Ultra has worse 108MP camera than Xiaomi, at 12 MP nonacell is worse than 27 MP Tetracell. 27 MP has far better details, autofocus, but both have issues at lowlight. I prefer Huawei's sensor, the 50 MP RYYB, Sony IMX 700y, it allows you to have great shots at any conditions, even in pitch black, hdr, low light, all in auto mode. The only downside of this sensor is that it is an RYYB, the colours are always warmer than reality because of too much red colour absorption, if u desaturate the reds, it will make other colours dull. That's why Huawei's photos have a magenta/warm cast to them, because of RYYB.

It even beats out other main cameras in Auto mode. In 5 cm, it is not as close as other macros but it makes up in terms of quality. So you can take even clear crisp shots at night. Macro lens usually have small apertures to allow them to focus closely, which means bad lowlight. Even 2 MP macros with 1.75 micron pixels are struggling at low light. What about 12 MP one? It will be worse at low light/challenging scenarios. Better get consistency rather than great at one place but bad at others. Large sensor and wide apertures aren't for macros. Just take a look how close the Note 10 Plus focuses compared to S20 Ultra.

Everyone is so hyped about 100MP plus cameras. It is useless. The best sensor in the world right now is the Xperia 1 ii's sensors (Read speed) and Huawei's 40/50 MP RYYB sensor. Huawei's one is hard to tune as it always gets the colours slightly warmer than reality. But Huawei's sensor aside from colour problems is the best in the industry. Shooting in low light and even pitch black, you don't need Night mode, whilst competitors need night mode. Huawei just needs to tune its overexposure and colour problems to be the best cameras in the whole industry.

AnonD-909757, 27 Jul 2020If you refer to depth and macro as useless, well, lets say ... moreWhen it comes to Macro shots, Huawei's 40 Mp Ultrawide Cine camera is the best. Even though it is only at 5 cm, the quality and night and day is very good. The only downsides of Huawei's cameras are :
                      1. Ultrawide not wide
                      2. 4k60fps videos lack sharpness
                      3. Colours problem with main cameras with strong and contrasty colours
                      4. Switching lens isn't as smooth

All except the first one is an small issue. When competitors win against Huawei, it is only by a small margin. But when Huawei wins, Lowlight, Pitch Black, zoom it is very far ahead.

Anonymous, 27 Jul 2020Well the entire point of having 108mp, 64mp & 48mp just... moreIf you refer to depth and macro as useless, well, lets say that the only reason they are useless is because they have crappy low resolution.
A macro camera is always a given for everyone who are really into photography and doesn't just specialize in a type (like landscape or sky shots) that omit macro.
If anything, the "useless" sensor is the Portrait, as a good depth sensor + the main camera would do the same job, but macro is literally unique.
Here is what a crappy 2MP macro shot look like :
                              https://images.fonearena.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Redmi-Note-8-Pro-Sample-25_macro-camera.jpg
Of course it doesn't really impress, 2MP is stupid nowadays, now compare the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro, the 8 have a crappy 2MP while the 8 Pro have a combined Macro and Ultrawide of 48MP :
                              https://i.gadgets360cdn.com/large/oneplus_8_pro_camera_macro_1591959615233.jpg
That's day and night, and it isn't even with a ultrashort focus point as an independent macro camera would have, so it give you a glimpse at the quality but not the real capabilities.
All phones either have 2MP macro or a Ultrawide + Macro combinaison giving either crappy quality or macro with limited close up capabilities...
The only brand smart enough to act differently is Xiaomi with the Redmi 10X Pro and the Poco F2 Pro who both have 5MP macro, it is far from a great 12MP, but it is already a good step in the right way, the latter give those really good shots :
                              https://imgur.com/a/Fi25ixA
And if it is a tele-macro (and optimized for both optical and numeric zoom), a 16MP is even better

Same story for the depth sensor, at 2MP for most and 5MP for some rare phones, it isn't much use, it need to be AT LEAST 12MP too.

For the 108MP, yes, they just play the game of big numbers.
It do have use, it is just not extreme in term of gains.

Big sensor and big pixel is obviously the way to go, but some nice tech like omnidirectional PDAF gave a HUGE gain to sensors, the IMX 689 is really great, now THAT sensor with Apple/Google (Huawei? Never knew they had better than usual software) would seriously kick ass !

Also a bragging right for marketing team ... and make some customer believe their 108,64,48 are far better conventional one.

Those sensor basically just the same as 12mp as the output goes .. nothing mind blowing.

The sony solution is convention: big sensor, big pixel. . I imagine those sensor on xperia 1 ll will do a bit better with Apple imaging processing or huawei older image processing software.
