i'm not going to believe this until i see speed tests compared to other devices. apple has cheated their tests before and so have a lot of other companies. in fact the only phones i know that tell the truth most of the time are SOME samsungs and the asus ROG phone lineup.

iOS Succckkks, 29 Jul 2020Where is the cheating? High performance mode gets activated... moreAgain stupidly giving comparison with Laptop CPU.
This is why I said you don't even know how performance mode works.

PC CPU/GPU has the ability to overclock. So, performance mode makes sense for PC. Smartphone SoCs can't overclock. You should keep your stupid theory to yourself.

Why don't you start with How smartphone performance mode work ?

And the performance mode is cheating because what the say isn't true. The performance mode triggers for a few apps. By that I meant benchmarking Apps, not games.
Now it feels like you don't even know how smartphone SoC works.

First tell me how smartphone SoC works(including work/load management) and how the so called performance mode works.

AnonD-754814, 29 Jul 2020Did I read ? It feels like you read and only knew what you... moreWhere is the cheating? High performance mode gets activated for certain apps? Why is that bad? Other apps don't trigger that mode coz that much power ain't needed.
Even with CPUs touching 3ghz and 16gb RAM on smartphones, their aren't many real world applications to take advantage of all that power.

Think of this like a laptop which runs at lower base frequency during normal use and pumps up the frequencies in demanding applications or benchmarks.
Only difference is that laptops running windows have plenty of applications ready to push the chipset to its full potential while on mobile there are hardly any apps apart from benchmarking ones to do the same.
So the operating system is designed in such a way to limit most apps from high performance mode as it would just unnecessarily consume more battery.

And Chinese brands & gaming phones (most are Chinese) score higher as chipset doesn't throttle because of dedicated cooling thereby giving higher performance compared to other flagships in benchmarks.

          Again, Where's the cheating?

Not one article on their site regarding the recent batterygate scandal that came out.
Nor any article covering the bendable iPad Pro.

Instead they are quick to write some phony article on benchmark cheating blaming it on performance mode which merely unlocks full potential of chipset, nothing more.
All those therotical gymnastics via custom benchmarks to make their Apple Ax series chips score more.

It feels like you read and only knew what you wanted to know, not what they said.
It doesn't detect games. It detects only those apps what it meant to detect. Their claim is untrue.

              Ahh..!!
Why am I even wasting my time arguing with an ignorant person. I bet you don't even know how performance mode works.

AnonD-754814, 29 Jul 2020For you, https://www.androidauthority.com/the-companies-w... moreDid you even read the article?
Oppo gave the same explanation as I gave.

"When we detect the user is running applications like games or running 3DMark benchmarks that require high performance, we allow the SoC to run at full speed for the smoothest experience. For unknown applications, the system will adopt the default power optimization strategy."

So basically, the SOC runs at full potential in benchmark apps showcasing RAW performance of the chip (which is what benchmarking apps are for).
And turns to lower clock speed for power optimization strategy (saving battery life).
Real world applications rarely need the full power that is utilized by benchmarking apps, so they don't need to run SOC at full performance mode all the time.

                Again, Where is the cheating?
It's clear you can't handle your Samsung lagging behind Chinese flagships.

If it weren'... moreThere is an option of performance mode in many phones where cpu and gpu are operating at their highest setting, input output operations are sped up among other things but it will consume more battery.
Then there is balanced mode which gives good balance between performance and good battery life.
Then there is battery saver mode where processor is downclocked and few other things to consume least amount of battery.

Performance mode is simply another cpu & gpu tuning profile.
Don't care what some court says.
Similar courts have fined Samsung for having rectangular corners as if Apple owned every rectangular corner design.

And I deliberately mentioned sustained performance coz Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Redmi k30 pro maintain benchmark scores while staying cool after repeated tests in Antutu as well as GeekBench while others throttle pointing to better cooling responsible for higher scores.
Similar reasons why gaming phones score higher as well.

But they don't do any detail review of Smartphone SoC. Also most of their SoC comparison reviews are AI organised. So, those AI comparisons aren't fair.

AnandTech runs custom versions of Benchmark. So, cheating is less easy. Then they also do very depth review. I don't see anyone else to do that.

The court said it's cheating. You've different opinion all the time because you're biased.

I wasn't talking about sustained performance. I was talking about performance drop.
If one play "Game A" with regular mode he might get 55fps and 10 mintutes of same performance then drops to 50fps.
But the same game with performance mode will run at 60fps then after 20 minutes it will drop below 40fps.

Your automatic recognition theory is also wrong. The cheat mode doesn't detect games.
It detects benchmark app and a few popular games may be.
