Flashback: the Samsung Galaxy Note II writes an even better story than the first one

09 August 2020
Bigger, faster and just plain better - the sequel improved on every aspect of the original and outsold it three-fold.

ALPHABOY17, 09 Aug 2020"It has been nearly a decade since the introduction of... moreFact Check: The flagship Note is called Ultra these days. It has a processor you can't get in any Galaxy S.

Lol, back in good old days when they wanted to combine tablet with a phone so they made the phone grotesquely massive... And it was still MUCH smaller than most non-stylus phones these days.

2012: Galaxy Note II - 151.1mm tall - "ah it's too large, how am I supposed to carry it around?"
2020: Galaxy S20 - 151.7mm tall - "look how incredibly compact it is, too!"

from such a history, Samsung is now removing features instead of adding.
better ditch the vanilla model for good, and stick to only one mighty NOTE.

"It has been nearly a decade since the introduction of the original and the series is still going strong."
I hope this story was written in the past, because now the note series is a disaster...
Back then the galaxy note had the internals very similar of the next galaxy S (note 3- SD800, s5-SD801), now, we have a "flagship" galaxy note with 1080p screen and even worse internals than the current galaxy S, with even less RAM...

Whackcar, 09 Aug 2020That was the time when the Note series stood out, and offer... moreActually still, the S Pen provided you use it a lot, is going to be a joy to use. Its Note app was a standout feature. You can draw easily and its pen has those gestures/features. But I agree with you.

I owned 2 Note models and it was excellent. Now it's just the same stuff, really. Nothing new. The S Pen has become quite obsolette these days.

Shocking people buying a Note just for gaming when Xiaomi or similar flagships offer better gaming performance. I have noticed this in several FB fanpage/groups. Like buying an iPhone for gaming when iPhones are not great for gaming despite powerful CPU/GPU (throttles quick, thick body)

I still have this phone (its working!) + epic zerolemon 9300mah battery. Superb combo! Very solid in the hand and you can carry it easily in your jeans without any additional protection. Not using it though. anymore as it morally got old (no 4G in my model for example).

Samsung Note series up to Note 8 (includes Note FE) was the benchmark of any Android phone. Great specs, good chipset for that time, maybe OS is quite slow but so are other Android phones (and iOS is not that fast, actually). Display and S Pen are the key selling points.

Time has changed. Note 9 was just OK, good-looking but low-par chipset (Exynos 9810). Note 10 started to dissapoint. Note 20 is a disaster.

I used to own a Note 3 and FE and they were pretty good phones. S Pen was a joy to use, screen was great. Battery life on the worse side but not terrible. Camera was pretty good. FE? Doesn't matter if it was a refurb Note 7, it was still nice except the performance somewhat lags.

My friend owned the Note 2 a very long time ago and it was better than an iPhone 4, or anything LG or competitors offers.

Now funny that an iPhone and even few flagship Chinese OEMs (Xiaomi & Huawei) beats the Samsung. By a mile.

Whackcar, 09 Aug 2020That was the time when the Note series stood out, and offer... moreHaving had a galaxy s3(i9300) in those times i can say that by using aftermarket roms i had the same features on the s3 as the note2 had. I'm glad a lot of those features were android inner workings yet to be unveiled, now i can use them with any device that has aftermarket software development going for it. Too bad some features aren't offered in aosp, would be great to have the cursor move by sliding on space on the virtual keyboard.

travstr, 09 Aug 2020I remember I wanted my dad to buy this phone for me so bad ... moreMe too I told my father to buy me the note 2 exynos version but he ended up buying the note 20 ultra 5g + mac book pro 2020 + ipad 101 inch

That was the time when the Note series stood out, and offered something different than it's competition. Nowadays it's just the same as their S lineup with the stylus shoved in.

Nicolas F, 09 Aug 2020Does somebody know why exactly did Samsung ditch the "... moreCheaper to produce and more power efficient. Also, because they have less pixels to light up, it might also be less prone to burn in. Considering the current resolution Samsung uses (at least FullHD+ on most of its models), probably it has more advantages than disadvantages.

I had this phone for 2.5yrs it was way better than any other phone at that time but samsung being samsung slowed down it with software update as it was old the battery too got worse after the update that's why changed my phone

Does somebody know why exactly did Samsung ditch the "full RGB stripe" types of OLED screens in their smartphones?

I was happy when i had this phone note2, i could run several apps at the same time and never lags or crashes and felt good to hold in hand.

I remember I wanted my dad to buy this phone for me so bad 🤣🤣🤣 I ended up getting a Note 4 instead.
