03 July, 2012
The growth is a lot stronger now, but a vast majority of users are still on Gingerbread and Froyo.

Some one said that SGS2 sold 28 Million handsets and I think because SGS2 is dual core it can't stand over 2.3.7.I read the in the phone so 5 Million GNote and 10 Million SGS3 Are still half of GS2 sold. And plus how many other phones were available with 2.3.3. I didn't say about other phone brands because GS2 is the most popular GB (2.3.3) of them all . By the way can I ask the manager of this website to give us info's about IOS as well? (: for Fun :)

Luke, 03 Jul 2012I don't agree with the idea of having the latest OS. Who c... moreIt is only reagrding user experience, but application development. By having this fragmentations, developers must cater for multiple Android API versions. If still using GB, user will not able to run application created using API level 14 or higher.

Luke, 03 Jul 2012I don't agree with the idea of having the latest OS. Who c... morewhat?? u dont feel like having an upgrade after 5-6months?? then why the hell is google releasing so many versions of android then?? google wants users to experience new and improved things, but it seems that few people just dont want change. Unlike most people who likes new things.

Ohhh! I wanna install cupcake or donut to my One X. What would be lovelier than having a Jurassic OS? Maybe XDA can help me out.

AnonD-61560, 03 Jul 2012Microsoft Windows for desktop for years has been in use. Pe... moreThis is a really bad analogy. Windows is compatible all the way.

Native applications are compatible - maybe you have to install some version of the Visual C++ redistributable, but that takes about 1 minute and has to be done only once and you're all set.

Managed applications are compatible as well - again, you just install the required version of the .NET redistributable, and you're ready.

Not to mention Windows releases come much, much more rarely than Android releases.

But if you wanna develop an app for Android 4.0, that's a big F U either for the userbase (if you don't port it to older versions) or for you (the overhead of taking care of older APIs).

So try to compare apples with apples next time.

When people will start getting updates of Jelly Bean, Hot Dog would have already been released and Cold Coffee would be around the corner. And perhaps Russian Salad or Beef Steak would be in progress.

Microsoft Windows for desktop for years has been in use. People using all the different versions. You can still buy PC with Win XP. Do you hear people complaining about this? On the other hand, if a phone is capable of being upgraded, why wouldn't you want to. The difference here is that with PC's you buy and install it yourself, with phones, you are held to ransom by the phone manufacturer / network. Its a shame you cannot do the same with phones by downloading the latest version and the installation process checks compatibility, like the Microsoft compatibility checker does, on install.

that's why most people stick with IOS, apple takes care of their customers unlike android unless your a nexus owner u wont get no new major update love until 5 to 6 months after even my friends GS2 don't even work properly on the ICS keeps on freezing and it sucks the battery life like there's no tomorrow i have a phone that ships with the ICS but am pretty sure i wont even get the JB update until next year when the phone is outdated by then.

The answer is pretty simple. Device manufactures to sell there's devices instead of updating android on there's "old devices" they are forcing you to upgrade it with new one.
The only company that could fix this problem is google. Only they have the power to force them them to update there's devices. And the trick of this company's is pretty simple. Each devices internal rom memory is big enough to fit the present rom. And each new Android rom they fill with there's bloatware so the rom won't fit in the internal memory. And always there's ly! The processor, and ram memory are not enough to drive the new Android version. And as no surprise they launch newer device with even lower end specifications and drive the newest version of Android.

Who cares which Android version is running, if the owner is happy with the phone?! Every upgrade (and I mean every, no matter of the device&platform) brings new problems. Besides most of the stock roms have a proprietary look&feel so user experience remains the same.

There are like 20 million sgs2 out there which most likely wont get the JB update. The users will keep using them for 1+ year though. Long live fragmentation

The OEMs are to blame for the slow roll outs of the OS Android 4.0.x. They are taking their own time to upgrade the existing phones. Google is also partly responsible for not forcing enough on the OEMs with the partnerships' terms and conditions of the upgrade.
